- A Rasta musician meets a Gospel singer when they both enter a music contest in Kingston, Jamaica. They fall for each other but are kept apart by the girl's pastor father, who wants her to marry into the church.
- In April, 1975, civil war breaks out; Beirut is partitioned along a Moslem-Christian line. Tarek is in high school, making Super 8 movies with his friend, Omar.
