- This documentary film traces the maritime history of the Malabar coast of India, a region which attracted traders, fortune-seekers and later imperial colonialists from all over the world because it was the gateway to the rich natural resources of the Indian sub-continent. The film places the handmade wooden trading vessels or "dhows" as a metaphor at the centre of the story, and outlines how these wooden ships changed the history of the world. The west waged wars over control of India, the 'jewel in the crown' of England.
