- Sara and her nanny Yarisa have a relationship that seems to transcend their class conditions: they are the closest thing to a daughter-mother, but an accident will test their intimate loyalty and the innocent illusion that nothing can separate them.
- Year 1820. LÁZARO (30), the cowardly heir of an intrepid deceased merchant, and MEI (23), who recently arrived from China, a descendant of a family of silk masters. Are both tasked with starting a silk factory in the center of the island of Santo Domingo. Upon finally arriving at his father's old plantation, LÁZARO discovers that the land has been expropriated and that the mulberry trees that are to feed his worms have been left on other people's land, under French control. LÁZARO and MEI must cross the border river daily to steal mulberry leaves to feed the silkworms. In addition, LÁZARO finds that the house on the land is occupied by BAPTISTE, a deserter from the Haitian army. Thanks to MEI's skill, BAPTISTE agrees to help them and together they begin to set up the factory: they become partners. However, when LÁZARO manages to obtain the collaboration of the church of Santo Domingo and the company begins to grow, he is tempted to deny what he promised to his partners. From then on, what could have been a story of abundance and friendship is cut short. Despite the white man's belated repentance, MEI, BAPTISTE and LÁZARO himself will live the collapse of a dream, wrapped in the beauty and cruelty of a world that is convulsing and slowly surrendering to modernity.
