- 26th May, 1940. 2 miles from Calais. The German army approaches a seemingly empty barn, hoping to use it as a base for wounded soldiers as they storm into Calais and take over the last remaining areas of France. Lowly soldier, Egon, is a loyal supporter of Germany and is sent into the barn to investigate further, However, his search is soon scuppered as he is ambushed by a British soldier (Lance Corporal Ernest). After a brief fight in the barn, Ernest manages to get into a position where he can kill Egon, however he realizes that if he kills Egon, then the German army will kill him but equally if he lets Egon go, he will be killed either way. Accepting defeat, Ernest backs away and in the short time they spend together, they begin to realize that they have more in common than divides them and that the real enemy isn't each other, but the governments who give the order.
