Australian Cinematographers Society

Australia

Notes

  • The Australian Cinematographers Society was founded by a group of cinecamera people in Sydney in 1957 and was originally the exclusive domain of film cameramen. Its Articles of Association were finalized in 1960. With the influx of portable video cameras the Society opened its doors to all types of cinematographers and the membership now reflects the changing face of the industry.
  • Over the years the Society has expanded considerably and now has a membership of over 1,200 Australia wide. It operates branches in every State of Australia, with annual Award Presentations being held in New South Wales, South Australia (incorporating West. Australia), Queensland and Victoria (incorporating Tasmania). (from the ACS web site, 1998)
  • The Cinematographer of the Year award is known as Milli Award since 1971, but had been given before.
