- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero. In my opinion, this was the movie that started it all. Nowadays people would look at this film and not see its true greatness. Christopher Reeve was Epic as was the storyline. THis movie came out in 78, and the special effects aren't on par with other movies on this list, but the fantastic origin story leading up to everything else makes this the best of any comic book films. The Dark Knight comes very close, and the two are barely separated by much when it comes to greatness.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Heath Ledger's performance was epic, as was everyone else in this the best of the Bat-Man films, including the ones from the eighties and nineties. It all adds up to a Great movie which is the second to get a rating of 10 out of 10 on this list.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstAlfred MolinaPeter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius. The best of the Spider Man films. Everything works here. The story, the acting, and another epic villian makes this the first on this list to get a rating of 10 out of 10.
- DirectorFrank MillerQuentin TarantinoRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeClive OwenBruce WillisAn exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.Dark and despairing. Bleaker than Blade 2, but the storyline works better in this movie than in that one. Loads of great acting from all and a lot of graphic violence.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.Action packed with lots of humor. Downey leads the way, but The Hulk almost matches him, and actually betters him in the end as he goes on a hilarious Hulk Smashing.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryWhen anti-mutant Colonel William Stryker kidnaps Professor X and attacks his school, the X-Men must ally with their archenemy Magneto to stop him.Action packed to the core with one of the best entrances of a character ever. Great storyline that doesn't let up. The best of the X Men films.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.Another dark movie, but the storyline is great. Bane may not be Heath Ledger, but his part was well done.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier.Lots of action. Lots of humor and great acting from all with a serious storyline on par with it all. Evans has eased into the role well. Black widow as supporting cast was stellar, on par with her part in The Avengers and possibly better.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartIan McKellenHugh JackmanThe X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. The story from the comics was changed, but this is still a good movie with everybody playing their part well. The action was nice too.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.A serious take on Batman, with Bale's acting being superior. Even the minor characters were great as was the storyline.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.Rob Downey made this role. His performance alone brought this movie to new heights. It was a great career move for him. I loved the storyline as well. THis movie hit on topics of today even though the original comic book used Vietnam because that was the thing at the time the comic debuted.
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRobert Downey Jr.Guy PearceGwyneth PaltrowWhen Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.Improvement over the second movie. THe Mandorin character was excellent in the role, but it's Ben Kingsley after all. Downey was his usual sarcastic self and him and the young boy play off each other well. The ending was great except for the whole Pepper Potts thing which I won't discuss because of spoiler.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth.Corny, but fun. Some of the dialogue is epic with one liners that many people remember, especially from Zod.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders.A good movie. Loki was just getting started and Thor was good to. THis movie had humor, which made it better than The Dark World.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.Pretty decent follow up to the original movie, but it's not quite as good. Even TOny Stark doesn't seem to be his usual self. A lot of action though and I really enjoy Scarlet Witch. Quicksilver wasn't given enough to do, and the Black Widow and Banner hook up didn't work at all.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.Sort of a prequel I guess. The actors were great as was the story itself.
- DirectorStephen NorringtonStarsWesley SnipesStephen DorffKris KristoffersonA half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.Really good movie. Better than I expected. Wesley Snipes as Blade was bad ass just like Wolverine.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.Great acting and great chemistry between the leads. Nice action scenes but some of the dialogue from the villain seemed weak.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneJamie FoxxWhen New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones.Once again great acting with great chemistry between the two leads. Lots of action, nearly on par with part 1, but bad dialogue from the lead villian, and a poor ending weakened it.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization.Good start to the series, but the sequel was superior with a lot more action.
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster. The story was a little weak, but Loki and THor had a great rapport going.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsBrandon RouthKevin SpaceyKate BosworthSuperman returns to Earth after spending five years in space examining his homeworld Krypton. But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world.I liked it enough to give it a good rating, but Bryan Singer copied Richard Donner too much. SHould've come up with his own vision.
- DirectorBrett RatnerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryThe human government develops a cure for mutations, and Jean Grey becomes a darker uncontrollable persona called the Phoenix who allies with Magneto, causing escalation into an all-out battle for the X-Men.Too much was happening, and killing off major characters was a no no. Still liked it more than the first in the series. Probably because it had a lot of action, though the Juggernaut was terrible.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstWillem DafoeAfter being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy.Special effects were weak and looked corny a lot of times. Some of the dialogue was also weak, but the story was good as were the characters.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsWesley SnipesKris KristoffersonRon PerlmanBlade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires.Lots of blood and lots of action, but too dark for me in a not so good way. Some say this was better than the first film, but I don't think so. Still enjoyed it though.
- DirectorTim StoryStarsIoan GruffuddJessica AlbaChris EvansThe Fantastic Four learn that they aren't the only super-powered beings in the universe when they square off against the powerful Silver Surfer and the planet-eating Galactus.Same as below, but the Silver Surfer made this a bit better.
- DirectorTim StoryStarsIoan GruffuddMichael ChiklisChris EvansA group of astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and must use them to oppose the plans of their enemy, Doctor Victor Von Doom.Silly dialogue, but they were a group I grew up with so I give them a little favoritism. I know, not fair.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.Bad Storyline hurts this first in the series, but Hugh Jackman as Wolverine was bad ass.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.A better storyline was needed, but the special effects were great.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.A little silly with a very weak middle, however it gets better towards the end
