6. "The First" (and some supplemental viewing...)
Although "The First" may be about the first manned mission to Mars, the story mainly focuses on the complicated and messy relationships between the astronauts and the families they will inevitably leave behind. It's very good, but very slow, though ultimately worth sticking through to the end for the emotional payoff.
For a longer red-planet themed binge, follow up "The First," with the six-episode Nat Geo documentary/scripted series "Mars," which juxtaposes the fictional story of a group of astronauts landing on Mars alongside real-life interview footage from scientists, engineers, and inventors who are working towards that eventual goal of a mission to Mars. Super-exciting and educational!
If you're looking for more straight-up action, and still not ready for your Martian adventures to end, then jump right into the first 3 seasons of the brilliant hard sci-fi series "The Expanse," which time-jumps forward to about the 23rd century where Mars has long been colonized and is on the verge of war with Earth. So much Mars! So little time.
