My Top 10 Movies of 2013
It's here. my favorite movies of 2013. So enjoy.
(This list has been delayed, because i felt i had not watched enough movies this year. Now after having watched the bi ones i missed, i felt ready to make the list. Now what about the wolf of wall street? Well its not out in the country i am in, before January. And considering i never put a movie i haven't watched on these lists, just because i feel i have to, it does not belong here. Sorry Scorsese fans)

- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsHugh JackmanJake GyllenhaalViola DavisWhen Keller Dover's daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts. My favorite movie of 2013 is Prisoners. This year was a good one for movies, but i enjoyed Prisoners the most. It's a great drama and crime thriller. Hugh Jackman descends into madness and recklessness, while Jake Gyllenhall attempts to solve a mystery thats actually quite interesting and unique. Its almost like its two movies in one. Equal parts Kidnapping Drama, and murder mystery.
Prisoners felt a lot like a David Fincher movie, and thats perhaps why i liked it so much. - DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking. The first 20 minute tracking shot of this movie, explains why its so great. Its an exciting movie that leaves you almost no breaks to catch your breath. Gravity is a masterfully done movie that is well directed and written. There are no cheap plot twists to make you question the brilliance of this movie. It's basically just a movie about survival, with great acting and cinematography. Gravity is exactly why we go to the movies, and this movie reminded us there are still reasons to buy that ticket stub.
- DirectorSteve McQueenStarsChiwetel EjioforMichael Kenneth WilliamsMichael FassbenderIn the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free Black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery.Slavery is a sore theme, that has been used many times in movies, but never like this. 12 Years a Slave is a depressing tale that really shows the horrible situation in which our main character finds himself. Beautifully directed by Steve Mcqueen (Who also made Shame, one of my favorite movies last year.), 12 years a slave is sure to make you sleepless the night after you watch it.
- DirectorChris BuckJennifer LeeStarsKristen BellIdina MenzelJonathan GroffFearless optimist Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven in an epic journey to find Anna's sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. It has been a long time since a truly magnificent Disney movie has been released. Most of their latest animated movies have been to forgettable for me, and Pixar seems to have lost some steam in past few years. Frozen is the complete opposite. This northern H.C. Andersen inspired tale is both beautiful to look at and entertaining at the same time. This is the Disney movie you have longed for so many years. With great musical numbers and likable characters.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageThe dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, their homeland, from the dragon Smaug.Last year when "An Unexpected Journey" was released, i ended up loving it so much i placed it second on my top 10. I do agree that my praise is a bit more reasonable this time. I re-watched the last Hobbit movie many times, and drew the conclusion that its good, but not as good as the first time i watched it. Which is why this fifth place is justified considering that i liked The Desolation of Smaug more. Everything just works better here than in the previous installment. It's a great adventure movie through and through, but its also better paced and more exciting than the last one. Yes I'm a sucker for these movies, but i really can't blame myself.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsSimon PeggNick FrostMartin FreemanFive friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from twenty years earlier unwittingly become humanity's only hope for survival.Have i ever Mentioned that I'm a huge Edgar Wright fan? Spaced is probably my favorite Tv-series ever, and i absolutely loved Scott Pilrgrim. But the movies with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will always be my favorites. The World's end is sort of an conclusion to the trilogy these three have created. And boy is it an entertaining mess. Yes this is not the type of movie that will blow you away with a wonderful plot, but its just so funny. I laughed the whole way through this science fiction comedy, and if you think you have seen everything based on trailers, you are sorely mistaken.
- DirectorJames WanStarsPatrick WilsonVera FarmigaRon LivingstonParanormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. If you went up to me at the start of this year and said "This year, you will absolutely love a horror movie", i would have laughed. I hate horror movies, and especially modern ones. The Conjuring? Sounds like something i would avoid at all costs, but this is truly a great movie that reminds you how great the genre can actually be, when it fires its big guns. The Conjuring is creepy and interesting. Its the type of horror movie you have longed for since the excorsist, with a great plot and script. Just an all around great movie.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsDaniel BrühlChris HemsworthOlivia WildeThe merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.Every year this movie comes along that the critics and viewers love. It has great chemistry between two main characters and is just all around entertaining, but then something weird happens. It flops at the box office. Sounds like a history you are familliar with? Well here is Rush, a movie that is just like that. A really good sports movie, that probably is the best racing movie you have ever seen. Its well written, interesting and entertaining. Its a movie even the most shallow viewers will enjoy. And i loved it.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaAfter the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.I'm not a Trekkie. Upon reading this, you probably have swept me under the carpet as someone who is blind to the brilliance of the original series. I don't care though, because i love these new Star Trek movies, and Into Darkness is a great sequel. This is how you do a summer blockbuster. STID is probably a bit darker than its predecessor, but that's not really important. It's generally just a fast paced science fiction movie of the kind we don't see so much any more on the big screen. In a time where Sci-Fi is reserved to robots or people with superpowers, Star Trek Into Darkness throws us into space, and gives us a great adventure.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsIdris ElbaCharlie HunnamRinko KikuchiAs a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.Speaking of Robots. This movie is awesome! Every year there's this one movie that brings out the nine year old in me, and this year it was "Pacific Rim". I really don't have anything else to say. Robots kicking ass against monsters? Heres my money for a ticket. But all joking aside, Pacific Rim knows its a movie with a convoluted plot, and a dumb premise. But unlike Transformers, it actually has fun along the way. Pacific Rim is a movie i recommend for anyone who just wants to be entertained, but without the risk of throwing face palms the entire way through a movie.
