- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsRussell CroweJennifer ConnellyAnthony HopkinsNoah is chosen by God to undertake a momentous mission before an apocalyptic flood cleanses the world. The story of Noah’s Ark is one of the most well-known from The Bible, but somehow has yet to receive a proper big-screen treatment. Director Darren Aronofsky’s Noah (March 28) has taken some heat for deviating from scripture, though this news has only served to pique interest in what will surely be one of the most interesting big-budget movies in quite some time. --Ray Subers
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsRalph FiennesF. Murray AbrahamMathieu AmalricA writer encounters the owner of an aging high-class hotel, who tells him of his early years serving as a lobby boy in the hotel's glorious years under an exceptional concierge.Director Wes Anderson has been on a great streak lately: The Fantastic Mr. Fox has aged like a fine wine, and Moonrise Kingdom was a critical and commercial success. The hilarious previews and strong early reviews for The Grand Budapest Hotel suggest that this could be another winner. --Ray Subers
- DirectorCharles SturridgeStarsTom RileyLaura HaddockBlake RitsonLeonardo and Lorenzo struggle to escape Riario's forces as Florence falls into chaos.“There is a greater story here, still being written.” So declares Leonardo Da Vinci during a moment in the season two premiere that finds him unexpectedly down for the count, and in strange company. What makes the scene particularly unexpected is that it takes place among the Incas in Peru, the latest destination in the historically-based hero’s pursuit of the legendary Book of Leaves. For anyone who was spellbound by David S. Goyer’s reimagining of Da Vinci as a swashbuckling hero as well as a visionary, the expansion of this visually lush drama’s palette from the Old World into the New is surely an exciting development. It also makes us hopeful that chapter two is but the start of a very long tale that Starz will allow be told over many, many seasons.
Season two of “Da Vinci’s Demons” premieres 9pm Saturday, March 22 on Starz. --Melanie McFarland - DirectorPamela FrymanStarsJosh RadnorJason SegelCobie SmuldersAfter Barney and Robin's wedding, Ted builds up the courage to approach "the mother" at the train station. Meanwhile, three years after the wedding, Barney and Robin drop a bombshell on the group. For the edification of those unfamiliar with the definition of a “meet-cute”, it is a scene in which a romantic couple crosses paths for the first time – the “meet” – and does so in a memorable way that makes viewers’ hearts melt. Never before has a “meet-cute” been drawn out nine seasons and 208 episodes, but that was the premise of this series – and shockingly enough, the producers made it work. The promise of its title will at long last be fulfilled on March 31 on CBS, and although the journey to that moment has contained a lot of filler, this show still hit the right emotional notes several times over its last season. We’ll certainly miss what this comedy brought to our Monday nights. And he may flap his gums a lot, but in the end, we really are glad we met Ted.
The special one-hour series finale of “How I Met Your Mother” premieres 8pm Monday, March 31, on CBS. --Melanie McFarland - StarsNeil deGrasse TysonChristopher EmersonKeythe FarleyAn exploration of our discovery of the laws of nature and coordinates in space and time.I have always been fascinated with space. It doesn't matter if it's fiction or documentary, I love
everything from "Star Trek" to "Battlestar Galactica", and even "Ancient Aliens". That's why I am literally counting the days
until the premiere of "Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey", co-presented by Fox and National Geographic. I just learned recently that the series is actually produced by Seth Macfarlane, so my only fear is there may be jokes about Uranus. --Michelle Nelson - CreatorAaron ZelmanStarsOmar EppsFrances FisherMatt CravenThe lives of the people of Arcadia, Missouri are forever changed when their deceased loved ones return. When the French series "The Returned" premiered in the US last year, I was bit confused because I thought it was an adaptation of Jason Mott's novel of the same name. Not so much. And so when I saw the first ad for the series "Resurrection", I recognized the storyline. This series is an adaption of Mott's novel, and is not related to The Returned, even though the premise is similar. Regardless, I am excited to check it out and already have it scheduled on my DVR. --Michelle Nelson
- DirectorRob ThomasStarsKristen BellJason DohringEnrico ColantoniYears after walking away from her past as a young private eye, Veronica Mars gets pulled back to her hometown, just in time for her high school reunion, in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls, who's embroiled in a murder mystery.Anticipation is the watchword, Marshmallows, as the groundbreaking little-Kickstarter-project-that-could arrives in theaters March 14. While we're beyond intrigued to see where the characters of the much-missed noir TV series are 10 years later, it's going to be equally interesting to see how the film fares in theaters with the simultaneous theatrical and VOD release. How much momentum can an established, ultra-dedicated fan base lend a movie? Will new fans give the film legs to expand to more theaters after the first weekend? Can high school noir transition effectively to twenty-something noir? These are a few of the many questions we can't wait to see answered as this filmmaking experiment is released to the world. --Heather Campbell
- DirectorDiego LunaStarsMichael PeñaAmerica FerreraRosario DawsonA biography of the civil-rights activist and labor organizer Cesar Chavez.I am beyond thrilled to the see the story of Cezar Chavez finally arrive on the big screen on March 28; Diego Luna's passion for this project powered this film into existence, and I hope it inspires a new generation to learn more about Chavez' life. --Heather Campbell
