- DirectorChia-Liang LiuStarsChia-Liang LiuKara WaiHou HsiaoCheng Tai-Nan (Kara Hui) is an honest and faithful servant of a dying patriarch who wants nothing more than to protect his vast wealth from his selfish, conniving nephew, Yung-Sheng. Tai-Nan is young enough to be his granddaughter, but still agrees to marry her master so that all of his wealth will be lawfully safe with her so she can then transfer it to Ching-Chuen (Lau Kar-Leung), her new husband/master's favorite nephew. This angers the hateful Yung-Sheng greatly, who sends multiple thugs after Tai-Nan, but she is a highly skilled martial artist who is not easily defeated. Amazingly, things become even more complicated when Ching-Chuen's son, Yu Tao (Hou Hsiao), arrives home from a university in Hong Kong and discovers a mysterious women in his house and attacks her, not realizing she is actually his new great aunt, Tai-Nan. Complicating things even more is the uncomfortable sexual tension between Yu Tao and Tai-Nan. Next Yung-Sheng finally manages to steal all the paperwork, titles, and deeds to Ching-Chuen's wealth. Left with no choice but to lead an all-out attack against Yung-Sheng at his booby-trapped mansion, Tai-Nan decides to get Ching-Chuen and his older brothers back into fighting shape.
- DirectorJohnnie ToStarsMichelle YeohAnita MuiMaggie CheungWhile one tough woman with an invisible robe has stolen 18 babies for her powerful master, two other tough women and the cops try to stop her.
- DirectorCorey YuenStarsMichelle YeohCynthia RothrockJohn ShamTwo unlucky thieves break into a just murdered man's hotel room and steal his passport with a hidden microfilm wanted by a triad boss. Two hard kicking women cops from HK and UK get the case.Aka "In the Line of Duty" (the first of what would become a seven film franchise), aka "Yes, Madam" or "Police Assassins". These films have sometimes had poor transfers and conflicting titles in the west (1, 2, and 4 were all called "In the Line of Duty" in some areas, although they also had other titles to add to the confusion - Wu Tang put out a pretty good version), but whatever you call them, action fans will find it well worth it to find a copy and check it out.
Riding the line between action and comedy (think Lethal Weapon), this is the first film for both Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock, who showcase some unbelievable bad-assery. Rothrock's speed is phenomenal, as is Michelle Yeoh's balletic grace.
It's just an awesome, kick-ass "chick flick" that spawned a whole "In the Line of Duty" franchise. These lethal babes beat Mel Gibson to the punch (or high kick) by about two years, and put the then-popular Chuck Norris actioners to shame (not surprising; it was produced by action superstar Samo Hung, who cameos). Listen carefully and you'll hear stolen music from John Carpenter's Halloween. - DirectorDavid ChungStarsMichelle YeohHiroyuki SanadaMichael WongMichelle Yip of the Hong Kong police is a mild-mannered Kung Fu expert; Michael Wong, from air security, is happy-go-lucky, stuck on himself, constantly talking, and smitten by her; Yamamoto is quiet, hard-boiled, leaving the Tokyo police to spend time with his wife and daughter. They form an alliance when they foil a hijacking on a plane flying a mob prisoner from Tokyo to Hong Kong. The mobster and his would-be rescuer die, and this sets off two avengers who were their blood brothers. Our three cops become the targets. A high-speed chase, a car bomb, the destruction of a nightclub, a spectacular suicide, dead bystanders, and a flying coffin litter the landscape by the end."Royal Warriors" - aka "In the Line of Duty 2" - was the second in the franchise about Police Inspector (or Madam) Michelle Yip.
Michelle Yeoh returns for the second and final time in the franchise, and kicks as much ass as she did in the first one, although now she's joined by Hiryuki Sanada (a Japanese pop star and actor who you've seen more recently in Rush Hour 3, The Wolverine, 47 Ronin, and The Last Ship), who can't top Cynthia Rothrock as far as partners go, in my opinion, but does a great job all the same.
This time, when Yeoh and two other cops manage to stop a pair of veteran crooks from rescuing a third aboard a passenger plane, they end up targeted by the criminals, ultimately forced to go outside the law to stop them. Solid kung fu and gunplay. - DirectorArthur WongBrandy YuenStarsCynthia KhanHiroshi FujiokaStuart OngGenji Nakamura and his soul-mate and partner Michiko Nishiwaki are thieves for the notorious Red Army terrorist organization in Japan. After pulling off the jewelry heist of the century (in which dozens of people get killed including a Tokyo detective), they are now planning to use the jewelry they've snatched to buy an arms cache from gun smugglers in Hong Kong for their movement. But when the duo learns the jewelry is fake and that their co-conspirator has set them up, they are determined to get what is owed to them even if they have to tear Hong Kong inside out. But lovely Hong Kong inspector Rachel Yeung is on the scene and she's not having any kind of bloodbath on her watch. After recently being promoted to 'Madam' for the S.C.S. (Serious Crimes Section), Rachel is determined to bust Michiko and Nakamura anyway she can when their violence results in too many casualties. But Rachel finds herself at odds with her bumbling uncle Cameron Chung, the head inspector for the S.C.S., as he feels this case is too dangerous for her and assigns Rachel to be a police escort for Officer Fujioka, a quiet but determined Tokyo police officer who is in town for his own personal reasons...reasons which could spell trouble for Rachel when she learns that he has a personal vendetta against Michiko and Nakamura. As the action hits overdrive filled with chases, gun fights and some serious hand-to-hand combat from both sides, it leads to a brutal but nasty showdown pitting cop against criminal...and only those with something to lose may be the ones to walk away from this encounter alive.aka "In the Line of Duty III"; Cynthia Khan takes over for Michelle Yeoh as Madam Rachel Yeung (I don't know if it's supposed to be the same character or not, but they look and dress about the same), this time chasing a pair of Bonny-and-Clyde types who don't care how many innocents get in their way so long as they get their mitts on a collection of diamonds - presumably to help fund terrorism.
Its a step down in quality without Yeoh, but Khan does a great job, and there's still plenty of dizzying, Hong Kong action... although she's tasked with "babysitting" a Japanese cop who's visiting Hong Kong to track down the thieves that murdered his partner. - DirectorWoo-Ping YuenStarsCynthia KhanDonnie YenMichael WongA Hong Kong cop and two American cops are onto a suspected harbor worker and are forced to team up when they discover that the suspect is a witness on the run from CIA agents and their schemers; two corrupt cops.Cynthia Khan is back as Madam Yeung in this fourth entry in the Line of Duty franchise. This time, she's backed up by a young Donnie Yen, who's balance and speed AND flexibility have to be seen to be believed; although he's they're only two of four kick-ass main stars.
The action gets a little repetitive (if not ridiculous), but if you like that special blend of Hong Kong Kung Fu and gunplay, there's plenty to go around, as Madam Yeung gets embroiled in a plot to protect a witness whose evidence can bring down a murderous mob with ties to the CIA. - DirectorChuen-Yee ChaStarsCynthia KhanDavid WuElvina KongWhen he is framed for being a spy because of his friend's illegal activities, David must escape from police, CIA, and assassins with the help of his cousin. This fifth entry in the series (the third with Cynthia Khan), is a more personal story, with Madam Yeung (or Liu or whatever she's called in the copy you find) trying to help her cousin, a Chinese-American Marine who's been branded a spy by both governments. There's never been a lot of continuity in these films beyond the title and main actor (the main romantic interest in 2 was one of the major villains in 4, for example), but each one has consistently delivered the same kind of urban action adventure, and for me that's not a bad thing.
There's the requisite car chases, rooftop fights, Parkour before there was Parkour, and Cynthia Khan being a total badass. This is the first film in the series where her character is legitimately the sole hero of the story. Cynthia Rothrock stole Michelle Yeoh's thunder in the first one, Hiryuki Sanada in the second, the Japanese cop in 3, and Donnie Yen in 4; here, Khan is the main draw through and through, constantly jumping in to save her cousin from certain doom.
As an American, its weird to see my countrymen painted similarly to the way we painted the Communists back in the 80's in the Rambo films, but its a story about Hong Kong heroes, and while not one westerner is shown without flaws, there are also plenty of Chinese people who do drugs, get things wrong, and make matters worse throughout the film, so I guess you could say it's reasonably well-balanced in terms of showing that all people have issues.
Say what you will about East-West relations or prejudices, In the Line of Duty 5 delivers a solid, character-driven story with all the humor, drama, and dazzling Kung Fu fans of the series have come to expect. - DirectorSiu-Keung ChengChun-Man YuenStarsCynthia KhanWaise LeeGary ChowHong Kong policewoman Yeung teams up with Taiwanese and Mainland officers to take down a gunrunning ring.aka "In the Line of Duty 6" or "Forbidden Arsenal"
- DirectorSiu-Keung ChengStarsCynthia KhanSimon YamGary ChowMadam Yeung is assigned to investigate a serial murder in a Philippine cargo ship anchored in Hong Kong.aka "In the Line of Duty 7"; this time Madam Yeung is more of a co-star in her own film, which features Simon Yam, but the detectives go up against a bunch of modern-day pirates. It's a long way from 3 & 4, but the finale is worth it.
- DirectorDavid ChungStarsMichelle YeohRichard NgTung-Shing YeeAction film about Chinese resistance after Japanese invasion in 1930's."Magnificent Warriors" aka "Dynamite Fighters" is Michelle Yeoh's version of Indiana Jones, and man, does this lady kick ass!
Set in 1938 when China and Japan were on the verge of war, Yeoh's high-flying "aviatrix" is sent in to rescue a spy who may have knowledge of a hidden fortress where the Japanese are producing bacteriological weapons. Comedy, drama, and whip-cracking action abound in one of Yeoh's best films - action on bikes, in planes, in cars, and with a variety of weapons - a shame it didn't spawn a series. - DirectorTeresa WooStarsHideki SaijôAlex FongMoon LeeA crimefighting organization called the Angels goes up against a drug-smuggling ring headed by a female kung-fu killer.aka "Midnight Angels", "Angels", "Iron Angels", or just "Angel", this is an explosive, over-the-top Hong Kong action film inspired by - you guessed it - Charlie's Angels (although for my money, if Charlie's Angels adopted this level of action, violence, and overall tone, they'd still be making sequels today). Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima star.
- DirectorGodfrey HoStarsPan Pan YeungDick WeiPhillip KoFemale agents battle a gang of diamond thieves.aka "Angel Enforcers"
- DirectorCorey YuenStarsSammo Kam-Bo HungJoyce GodenziTony Ka Fai LeungWorking in a police precinct full of her in-laws, inspector Mina Kao and her colleagues are assigned a dangerous case involving Vietnamese criminal refugees, right after getting married to her fellow inspector Huang.
- DirectorClarence FokStarsChingmy YauSimon YamCarrie NgA young woman is trained by a martial arts specialist to become a professional assassin.
- DirectorStanley TongStarsJackie ChanMichelle YeohMaggie CheungA Hong Kong detective teams up with his female Red Chinese counterpart to stop a Chinese drug czar.Simply one of the best action movies ever made, in any language, in any country. This is Jackie Chan's ultimate film (in my opinion). While it strays a bit from the urban cop action-drama of the first two Police Story movies, venturing into international man-of-mystery territory, the action is so breathtaking and intense - with a story to match - that it's hard to care if you're a fan of the first two.
In the U.S., it was only available through bootlegs or in Chinese for many years, before finally getting remastered and released in theaters after Rumble in the Bronx was an unexpected breakout success. This one dazzled cinemagoers in the West just as it had overseas, and opened the gates for a flood of old and new Jackie Chan movies (so much so that it kind of saturated the market, unfortunately).
But this and Drunken Master 2 are his best and most polished films in my opinion, and if you only had one movie to sum up the genius of Jackie Chan, this one would do it just fine. Michelle Yeoh co-stars, and just adds icing to the cake in one of her best on-screen parts as well. - DirectorStanley TongStarsMichelle YeohRongguang YuEmil ChauAs a crime wave sweeps through Hong Kong, the police call on Jessica Yang, a rising star in their ranks, to help stop a notorious gang of thieves.aka "Supercop 2", this loose sequel to Supercop (starring Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh), sees Yeoh return as the same character, with Jackie only making a brief cameo.
Overall the film is a let-down by comparison to Police Story 3, but there's still some stylish action here and there, with a solid fight at the end that's worth the price of admission. Worth it if you like Michelle Yeoh, who is always easy on the eyes, but don't expect another action bonanza like Police Story 3. - DirectorWoo-Ping YuenStarsJet LiMichelle YeohSiu-Ho ChinTwo friends, ex Shaolin monks, part ways as they brush with the ongoing rebellion against the government. The ambitious one rises up to be a powerful military commander, while his betrayed friend resorts to learn the calm ways of Tai Chi.aka "Twin Warriors", this action film starring Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, dramatizing the story of the first monk to invent Tai Chi Chuan. A solid wuxia action film.
- DirectorWoo-Ping YuenStarsMichelle YeohDonnie YenKing-Tan YuenWing Chun's village is yet again being plundered by bandits. This time she uses kung fu to defeat them. The fighting doesn't end here.Michelle Yeoh stars in this wuxia action film about a small town family, one of whom is a defender of the poor. When two bandit brothers try to assault a widow, Wing Chun intervenes, and earns their wrath. Her childhood sweetheart comes to town, and can't tell which girl is the one he left behind. If he can figure it out however, and doesn't mind his girl having become a martial artist, she'll marry him - if she can defeat the bandits first. A solid traditional kung fu yarn.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsChow Yun-FatMichelle YeohZiyi ZhangA young Chinese warrior steals a sword from a famed swordsman and then escapes into a world of romantic adventure with a mysterious man in the frontier of the nation.
- DirectorWoo-Ping YuenStarsDonnie YenMichelle YeohHarry Shum Jr.A story of lost love, young love, a legendary sword and one last opportunity at redemption.

CIA operative follows the case for 6 years with no leads, but when a series of assassinations begin to occur, he suspects that Madame M is back in business.Maggie Q getting her Hong Kong action start in a very poor movie with lots of fan service and girls fighting in skimpy clothes.
- DirectorCorey YuenStarsShu QiWei ZhaoKaren MokA conflict of interest between two high-kicking assassin sisters is complicated as they're pursued by the criminals who hired them and an equally high-kicking female cop.
