- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter the Rebel Alliance are overpowered by the Empire, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett.Dark. Brooding. Emotional. Exciting. Empire Strikes Back should be the template for all future Star Wars movies. It is absolutely phenomenal.
Grade: A+
10/10 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.Fantastic, fun fantasy movie. The characters are great and their interactions are the best part of this movie. The second act is one of my favorite acts in the saga.
Grade: A+
10/10 - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.Great movie. The characters are extremely relatable and deep. The lightsaber fight is one of the best in the series. I would have preferred that they had not had another Death Star-type weapon, however.
Grade: A
9/10 - DirectorRichard MarquandStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the Rebel Alliance attempt to destroy the second Death Star, while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader back from the dark side.A good ending to a phenomenal trilogy. The first and third acts are amazing; the Death Star space battle is especially awesome. The confrontation between Luke, Darth Vader, and the Emperor is also great. The ewoks, however, really hinder the movie. When the main characters are captured by them, the movie screeches to a halt and becomes somewhat boring, not to mention the fact that they take down the emperor's "best legion of stormtroopers."
Grade: B+
7.5/10 - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.Has the best action in the entire series with a fantastic third act, but overall has a lot of problems. The characters are somewhat bland and one-dimensional. There are also some plot issues (Saw Gerrera was just a useless a plot device) and awkward set-ups (The constant bouncing between planets at the beginning). An enjoyable movie, but not a great one.
Grade: B-
6/10 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy.Average movie. There are some phenomenal and awful moments, sometimes even back-to-back. The first 30 minutes and last 15 minutes are both near-perfect. However, there are a ton of boring scenes in which characters sit around in a room and just talk. The Mustafar fight is also ridiculously over-the-top. Order 66 and the birth of Vader are the highlights.
Grade: C
5/10 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsEwan McGregorLiam NeesonNatalie PortmanTwo Jedi escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory.Pretty bad movie with some redeeming qualities. The practical effects, when utilized, look great. I also love the lightsaber fight at the end and the third act has some good action. However, the characters are incredibly uncharismatic and have absolutely no interesting qualities. The dialogue is also awful and the script makes for an extremely boring movie that is difficult to watch in one sitting. The cgi also did not age well and Jar jar is terrible.
Grade: D+
3/10 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorTen years after initially meeting, Anakin Skywalker shares a forbidden romance with Padmé Amidala, while Obi-Wan Kenobi discovers a secret clone army crafted for the Jedi. The worst in the saga. Anakin is completely unlikeable and annoying and the supporting characters are boring and are devoid of personality. The plot is a mess and the love story is one of the worst I've ever seen in a movie. There is some ok mindless action at the end, but that is literally the only thing that is moderately entertaining in this terrible mess.
