Cable Company Buys NBC and Renames Its Headquarters
Show: "30 Rock"
Episode: "Operation Righteous Cowboy Lightning"
Air date: Jan. 27, 2011
The inspiration for the ongoing "30 Rock" storyline, where the conglomerate Kabletown takes over NBC, was clearly Comcast's acquisition of the network. The show mined plenty of comedy and a few poignant moments out of the situation. The episode "Operation Righteous Cowboy Lightning" opened with Jack and Liz watching as the GE sign on the top of NBC's iconic 30 Rockefeller building is replaced with a Kabletown logo. Coincidentally, the episode aired the same day the head of Comcast met with NBC employees to announce the takeover. The show's true soothsaying abilities became apparent on July 1, 2015, when the GE sign was replaced with a Comcast sign and 30 Rockefeller was officially renamed the Comcast building.
