Best of 2016: Top 10 TV Character Deaths9 of 10
2. Hodor "Game of Thrones"
Date: May 22, 2016 (airdate)
Obituary: Hodor (Kristian Nairn), giant, protector, and man of few words was torn to death by a swarm of Wight Walkers. He died heroically, sacrificing himself to save Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Meera (Ellie Kendrick), by holding the door of their hideout shut while they fled. Tragically, viewers finally learned why Hodor only could speak a single word — Hodor — in the episode. During the White Walker attack, Bran accidentally warged into a younger version of Hodor, then known as Wylis. Wylis heard the future Meera screaming, "Hold the door" and repeats the phrase until it slurs together, leaving him only able to say, "Hodor."
