Original directors: Norman Taurog, Richard Thorpe, George Cukor Replaced by: Victor Fleming
Replacing a director on a big movie is not a new thing. The Wizard of Oz went through a series of directors before appointing Fleming. Taurog filmed just a few early Technicolor tests. Thorpe shot for nine days, and Cukor stepped in as an interim director. Fleming was then brought in to serve as the main director.
