- DirectorHaruo SotozakiStarsNatsuki HanaeAkari KitôYoshitsugu MatsuokaAfter his family was brutally murdered and his sister turned into a demon, Tanjiro Kamado's journey as a demon slayer began. Tanjiro and his comrades embark on a new mission aboard the Mugen Train, on track to despair.9/10, Fantastic continuation of the Demon Slayer anime, takes everything I love about the show and continues it and trims back the annoyances (like Zenitsu's stupid cowardly screaming). Has the usual quality animation and gut punching emotion. Wish there was more Nezuko though, guess her time will come later...
- DirectorJohn KrasinskiStarsEmily BluntMillicent SimmondsCillian MurphyFollowing the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.8/10, An excellent sequel that continues the story of the family from the first film without losing the tension or the characters that made it interesting. This might actually continue to be a great franchise, who'd have thunk it?
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandZendayaBenedict CumberbatchWith Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help. When a spell goes wrong, dangerous foes from other worlds start to appear, forcing Peter to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.8/10, Best Spider-Man film yet in a character whose teenage awkwardness has always bugged me but here there is so much Peter Parker has to do that there isn't time for that, improves things. Yes this film is heavy in fanservice but works for the plot so not just trying to cover up for weak story, was quite fun. However, how the villains are dealt with seems rather easy, not sure how I feel about that.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillBen AffleckGal GadotDetermined to ensure that Superman's ultimate sacrifice wasn't in vain, Bruce Wayne recruits a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions.8/10, It is a bit long of course, I feel like a 3hr or maybe even 3h 30min cut would have been perfect. Has some of the same cheesy lines that bug me some as well. Overall though this is an obvious step up from the original for instance some actual character given to Ray Fisher and Cyborg. The villain and the magic boxes not as forgettable as before. I hope that there is a continuation to this story, so much stuff added in the epilogue that if there is no payoff it would be quite disappointing.
- DirectorFlorian ZellerStarsAnthony HopkinsOlivia ColmanMark GatissA man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.8/10, This was a rather uncomfortable watch though Anthony Hopkins certainly gave an amazing performance. Because of the performance it gave this feeling which is praise for him. Given it is told from his perspective made you feel the confusion right along with him. I can give this a solid rating because of this though I have to say I had a more fun time with anything I rated a 7/10 but the film was so well done that it needs an 8. Can't see myself ever seeing this again though.
- DirectorCary Joji FukunagaStarsDaniel CraigAna de ArmasRami MalekJames Bond has left active service. His peace is short-lived when Felix Leiter, an old friend from the CIA, turns up asking for help, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.7.9/10, can't quite get to 8 but could see myself either lowering or raising this latest Bond flick hard to say really. Certainly when the action was going down was exciting and the overcomplicated and pretty nonsensical villain plot was standard Bond fare. Also the film wasn't as woke as I thought was going to be. Yes female power was on full display but to me it wasn't to the detriment of Bond himself, other characters simply got the spotlight as well. My main problem with the film was a decision the villain made that baffled me, just seemed to be a way to make things easier for the good guys later on, not one that made any sense to actually do.
The ending will no doubt be controversial and for me I can live with it however it does close the book on these films for me, don't see myself having any desire to watch any more of this franchise. No Time to Die I could see again but this series is over. - DirectorEnrico CasarosaStarsJacob TremblayJack Dylan GrazerEmma BermanOn the Italian Riviera, an unlikely but strong friendship grows between a human being and a sea monster disguised as a human.7/10, A decent fun entry for Pixar
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsTimothée ChalametRebecca FergusonZendayaA noble family becomes embroiled in a war for control over the galaxy's most valuable asset while its heir becomes troubled by visions of a dark future.7/10. First off Dune looks fantastic. Easily the best part of the film. Have to admit though the characters didn't grab me like they should, the story only really made sense to me because I am familiar with the book and the previous miniseries. Fun enough but I didn't love this like I should have, oh well.
- DirectorJason ReitmanStarsCarrie CoonPaul RuddFinn WolfhardWhen a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.7/10, I enjoyed this film had some good awkward humor from the main girl who is our protagonist and enough ghost action to entertain. The story didn't talk down to the audience or insult them like a previous so called ghostbusters film did and was all around a fun time. I will say though that while I liked Afterlife I didn't love it. It did go too far with the nostalgia and nods to the original, I was expecting at least a few references but what I got was taking just about every single element from the original and squeezing it in. Got tiresome after awhile, some of the nods worked others fell flat. Didn't really care for the son or his crush in the film just didn't work for me. Afterlife though earns a solid 7 though, I could watch again though doesn't match up with the original or even Ghostbusters II for me.
- DirectorSimon McQuoidStarsLewis TanJessica McNameeJosh LawsonMMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.7/10, cheesy but there is fun here
- DirectorDominic CookeStarsBenedict CumberbatchMerab NinidzeRachel BrosnahanBusinessman Greville Wynne is asked by a Russian source to try to help put an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis.7/10, a decent enough watch though for its type I think I'd rather watch something like Bridge of Spies again rather than this.
- DirectorReinaldo Marcus GreenStarsWill SmithAunjanue Ellis-TaylorJon BernthalA look at how tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams became who they are after the coaching from their father Richard.7/10, Well its a biopic. Will Smith does what he needs to do and his story of training the Williams sisters was interesting enough. Solid 7 movie, nothing spectacular but decent enough watch.
- DirectorMichael RiandaJeff RoweStarsAbbi JacobsonDanny McBrideMaya RudolphA quirky, dysfunctional family's road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity's unlikeliest last hope.7/10, I think kids will especially love this, for me I found it to be hit and miss, had to skip ahead sometimes while watching and other times really engaged. Was okay family film in an okay year for movies.
- DirectorT.J. GnanavelStarsSuriyaLijo Mol JoseManikandan K.When a tribal man is arrested for a case of alleged theft, his wife turns to a human-rights lawyer to help bring justice.7/10, I'd call this a standard courtroom drama that works well enough though the cultural barrier makes it hard to understand completely.
- DirectorAndy SerkisStarsTom HardyWoody HarrelsonMichelle WilliamsEddie Brock attempts to reignite his career by interviewing serial killer Cletus Kasady, who becomes the host of the symbiote Carnage and escapes prison after a failed execution.7/10, there really isn't a whole lot to say with this film, was entertaining enough for a one time watch. Venom had jokes that hit and missed as well. Carnage as an opponent played well by Woody Harrelson but I found the CGI to be rather questionable.
- DirectorAdam WingardStarsAlexander SkarsgårdMillie Bobby BrownRebecca HallThe epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against each other--the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong--with humanity caught in the balance.7/10, Story and human characters were complete nothings and really if you think about it the plot doesn't make a bit of sense. Though it was an incredible looking film and when Kong and Godzilla were doing their thing and the humans weren't around to slow things down this was an absolutely terrific ride. I can watch again (maybe), a much much better film than the awful predecessor Godzilla: King of the Monsters either way.
- DirectorTaylor SheridanStarsAngelina JolieNicholas HoultFinn LittleA teenage murder witness finds himself pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness with a survival expert tasked with protecting him -- and a forest fire threatening to consume them all.7.0/10, Fire is the main character and it shines. Humans have enough action and peril to make this a by the numbers decent watch.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsDave BautistaElla PurnellAna de la RegueraFollowing a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.6/10, Its stupid. If you can turn your brain off and try to ignore stupid people doing stupid things in a stupid scenario it can be mild bloody fun. Too long though, wants to have emotional moments but they fall flat. Great concept though, when the action is occurring you can almost forget how dumb it is. Oh and I guess radiation isn't a thing...
- DirectorIlya NaishullerStarsBob OdenkirkAleksey SerebryakovConnie NielsenA docile family man slowly reveals his true character after his house gets burgled by two petty thieves, which, coincidentally, leads him into a bloody war with a Russian crime boss.6/10, a forgettable shoot-em-up film, normal looking guy actually a badass who is dragged back into the life. When the guns are firing its decent in a turn your brain off kind of way but overall is so generic and dull when Nobody tries to do "plot" that I can't rate this higher than this.
- DirectorJoe CarnahanStarsGerard ButlerFrank GrilloAlexis LouderOn the run from a lethal assassin, a wily con artist devises a scheme to hide out inside a small-town police station-but when the hitman turns up at the precinct, an unsuspecting rookie cop finds herself caught in the crosshairs.6/10, I'd pair this up with Nobody as throwaway action films though Copshop is dumber than Nobody. Has some nicely shot action sequences though however ludicrous the story is.
- DirectorShawn LevyStarsRyan ReynoldsJodie ComerTaika WaititiWhen Guy, a bank teller, learns that he is a non-player character in a bloodthirsty, open-world video game, he goes on to become the hero of the story and takes the responsibility of saving the world.6/10, a mixed bag for sure. There were times that this was great fun and then others that were cringe, dumb or using eye rollingly bad leftist buzzwords. A villain that was... absurd would be a good way of putting it. Guess this is a criticism of online shooting games and those who play and create them. Should only play Sims or something I guess. Ryan Reynolds did well as himself though movie he was in didn't do him any favors, actors like him lift whatever they are in but wasn't enough for me to really enjoy this. Not a terrible film but never need to see again, great concept, terrible execution.
- DirectorCate ShortlandStarsScarlett JohanssonFlorence PughDavid HarbourNatasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises.6/10, It was alright, loud noises and explosions galore. Black Widow turns from a human to be one of the superhuman with the things that happen to her and she just gets up, dusts herself off and continues on. I bet Captain America has to catch his breath sometimes but not our Widow, girl powr!, something, something. Natasha and her old pretend family go to stop the man who controlled them and others in a plot ripped off from X2. This time though the bad guy is a misogynist going after the natural resource there is too much of in his words: girls. So we have finger snapping messaging in this current year of 2021. The "father" of Natasha is shown to be a buffoon and useless, can't have a macho man help out after all though there is a beta submissive male who is allowed to help from time to time who allows himself to be chided and kept in his place. History of Black Widow had to be deconstructed as well, sigh.
All that said there is enough humor and action to keep things mildly interesting though the story was dumb and got dumber as it went on, could ignore the overbearing messaging to see things go boom. - DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsSimu LiuAwkwafinaTony Leung Chiu-waiShang-Chi, the master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organization.6/10, this film was alright but I just couldn't really get into it. Action scenes entertained well enough but the story and characters didn't. Had a hard time really caring about what was going on, got to the point was just random CGI action sequences with no heart behind them.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsMargot RobbieIdris ElbaJohn CenaSupervillains Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.6.0/10, When The Suicide Squad was on point for me it was quite fun and humorous but then at other times it was dull, cringy if not outright stupid. Project Starfish... ugh. Polka dots... ehhhhh. I guess can say I barely liked it more than disliked it, don't ever need to see this again but wouldn't hate myself if I had to see it again.
- DirectorRawson Marshall ThurberStarsDwayne JohnsonRyan ReynoldsGal GadotAn Interpol agent successfully tracks down the world's most wanted art thief with help from a rival thief. But nothing is as it seems as a series of double-crosses ensues.6/10, The Rock and Ryan Reynolds playing themselves in a stupid convoluted thief movie that because of one final big twist at the end makes no sense whatsoever. Logic matters not since it looks cool right? It does help I suppose, this really should be rated lower but it has enough going for it because of the actors that it was a throwaway one time watch.
