- DirectorRobert IscoveStarsFreddie Prinze Jr.Rachael Leigh CookMatthew LillardA high school jock makes a bet that he can turn an unattractive girl into the school's prom queen.I adore Freddie Prinze Jr. His old man was on Chico and the Man before he tragically took his life. His offspring inherited some of the same charm. Will he do Hamlet? Not likely, but he capably portrays a young man who learns one of those 90's life lessons about real love. Back when movies were fun, nobody was glued to their cell phone, and the fashion was outrageous. Nobody looks quite so fetching as Freddie Jr. when they're yearning for the girl.
- DirectorRoger KumbleStarsSarah Michelle GellarRyan PhillippeReese WitherspoonTwo vicious step-siblings of an elite Manhattan prep school make a wager: to deflower the new headmaster's daughter before the start of term.Speaking of Prinze, his wife Sarah was an adorable lead for that iconic show known as Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not just a pretty face, she kicked ass for 7 seasons, but she's also pretty damn good as a cocaine snorting heiress with a yen for playing mind games. With innocent young lovers, no less.
- CreatorCole HaddonStarsJonathan Rhys MeyersJessica De GouwThomas KretschmannDracula travels to London, with dark plans for revenge against those who ruined his life centuries earlier. However, his plan is complicated when he falls in love with a woman who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. He's got a long name, so I'll just call him Johnny. This show got the axe by NBC, but watching JRM smolder made my nights pleasurable. There's something uncanny about the guy - a good choice to play the most famous immortal of all time.
- StarsJames MarstersJuliet LandauMarti NoxonA look at the character of Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997).James Marsters was a lot of fun to watch playing a vampire who liked punk and tormenting a certain blonde haired slayer - until he ruined his life and fell for her. I'll never not have a crush on this one. His final moments as Spike made it all worth while.
- DirectorGus Van SantStarsRiver PhoenixKeanu ReevesJames RussoTwo best friends living on the streets of Portland as hustlers embark on a journey of self discovery and find their relationship stumbling along the way.If River Phoenix doesn't crush your soul and bring a tear to your eye in his role as a male prostitute, nothing will. A truly epic performance as Mikey, the gay man destined for a tormented life.
- DirectorPeter KosminskyStarsMichelle PfeifferRenée ZellwegerRobin WrightA teenager journeys through a series of foster homes after her mother goes to prison for committing a crime of passion.Alison Lohman has to be one of the most underrated actresses out there. She captivates effortlessly in her role as a foster child with a mother rotting in prison for murder. She can do more with a look than some can with an entire page of dialogue. A truly sensitive performer.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.Eek. I don't get why Charlize Theron's character in this movie exists - I guess to strut around looking skinny and gorgeous in skin-tight latex. A not so convincing performance in a still decent popcorn flick.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKate CapshawKe Huy QuanIn 1935, Indiana Jones is tasked by Indian villagers with reclaiming a rock stolen from them by a secret cult beneath the catacombs of an ancient palace.I'm in the minority on this one. I truly love Kate Capshaw's performance as Willy, the lounge singer with some, er, issues with bugs. She's never not entertaining - and she's got charisma to spare as she spars with the unflappable Indiana Jones.
- DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsJulia RobertsAlbert FinneyDavid BrisbinAn unemployed single mother becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city's water supply. This movie seems to have been made so the other actors could venerate Julia's performance. It was cringe-worthy watching her crush all those in her wake in this narcissistic star vehicle. Maybe next time write Brockovich's corporate busting legal assistant role with a bit more humility. Did she rent those kids of hers or what? Not a believable role or a believable film despite the true story behind it.
- DirectorAlex ProyasStarsBrandon LeeMichael WincottRochelle DavisA man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée's murder.Ernie Hudson is a damned good actor and I love his role as the cop with a heart of gold. Another underrated actor who can do more with a look than many can with reams of dialogue. One of my all-time favourite movies, too, with some heart-wrenching, spine-tingling moments. An eerie comic book come alive for the 90's, and Brandon Lee's last and dare I guess darkest role.
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy.Ah, Hayden. I loved his portrayal of Darth Vader and have yet to figure out why he got so much flak. Is it because people are jealous of his insane good looks? Doesn't matter because he pulled off the tricky role of Anakin Skywalker with real poignancy and power. Well done, my young apprentice.
- DirectorDavid SeltzerStarsCorey HaimKerri GreenCharlie SheenA socially inept fourteen-year-old experiences heartbreak for the first time when his two best friends - Cappie, an older-brother figure, and Maggie, the new girl with whom he is in love - fall for each other.Ah, Corey Haim. One of the best films in my collection, and a raw and pure performance. He will break your heart a hundred times in this story of a tortured geek who challenges his own limitations.
- DirectorRaja GosnellStarsDrew BarrymoreDavid ArquetteMichael VartanA newspaper reporter enrolls in high school as part of research for a story.Drew Barrymoore has her heart in her eyes in this one. Descended from acting royalty, she never fails to draw you in to a world drenched in pure enchantment. No wonder she played Cinderella.
