A Different Man | Releasing in 2024
Identity and representation are at the sticky center of writer-director Aaron Schimberg's new thriller, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January. In A Different Man, an actor with a facial deformity (Sebastian Stan) loses out on the role of a lifetime after undergoing a surgery that transforms him into a traditionally handsome leading man. Adam Pearson (Under the Skin, Chained For Life) co-stars as a fellow disabled thespian who is all-too willing to step into the shoes Stan’s character Edward has left behind. But don't let the philosophical nature of the premise fool you. The inclusion of a Cronenbergian transformation (complete with blood and chunks of flesh) and a cringe-inducing sex scene left "Variety" to call A Different Man, "the year’s most uncomfortable date movie."
