Featuring Sylvester Stallone in what sounds like a rare villain role, action thriller Alarum has just finished shooting. Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald also star.
The Shakespearian-sounding Alarum, an action thriller starring Sylvester Stallone, has just finished filming – and like Brad Anderson’s World-Breaker, is another mid-budget genre film looking for distribution at Cannes this week.
Directed by Michael Polish (Terror On The Prairie), Alarum appears to have cast Stallone in a rare villain role. To the best of our recollection, the only other time Sly’s played an antagonist was in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003.
Alarum’s leads are Scott Eastwood and Willa Fitzgerald, who play a pair of professional assassins who are off on a romantic break when they find themselves pursued by murderous CIA agents – the scariest of them played by Stallone.

True Brit Entertainment has revealed a first look image of Pierce Brosnan in the boxing biopic ‘Giant.’
The movie is based on the compelling true-life story of British-Yemeni pugilist Prince Naseem ‘Naz’ Hamed and his rags-to-riches ascent to a World Championship under the tutelage of his Irish-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle.
The story of Hamed’s humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz’ unorthodox style, cocky persona, and sheer dominance in the ring, propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80’s and 90’s Britain.
Also in news – Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson & more join cast of ‘Downton Abbey 3’
Amir El-Masry will play Naz, and Brosnan takes on the role of Ingle.

Two-time Oscar winner Emma Stone and actor Ryan Gosling have starred together in three films to date and have been lauded for their on-screen chemistry. While they began with the romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love, the pairing worked wonders in the musical romance La La Land, which won Stone her first Oscar for Best Actress.
The two also had many memorable scenes in the Steve Carrell starrer Crazy, Stupid, Love, where they played a budding couple. According to co-director Glenn Ficarra, the makers went with Emma Stone because she was the only one who was not intimidated by Gosling’s presence during the audition.

Jason Statham is heading to Scotland for an untitled action thriller from director Baltasar Kormakur. More on the project here.
Jason Statham’s already scored a delightfully fun hit movie this year with The Beekeeper, which has turned in a good profit after its cinema run back in January. He made that with director David Ayer, and the pair are now working on a new film, Levon’s Trade, based on a script written by Sylvester Stallone. It’s currently set for release at the start of 2025.
By the time that particular film arrives with us though, Jason Statham will be on a remote Scottish island, filming his next movie after that. It’s a film without a title at the moment, but we know that it’s going to be directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who previously brought Everest to the big screen.

Twenty-five years ago, director Stephen Sommers turned a respected, but admittedly pretty dusty, Universal horror movie into a rip-roarin’ adventure. It’s fair to say all these years later that 1999’s The Mummy the best Indiana Jones movie not directed by Steven Spielberg. And yet, when Universal wanted to remake it again, they didn’t even bother to consult Sommers.
Is it any wonder, then, that 2017’s The Mummy was a colossal flop?
Talking with Sommers about the 25th anniversary of The Mummy ’99, The Hollywood Reporter asked if he had any involvement with the 2017 film, to which the director gave a short, clear response.
“No,” he answered. “Actually, I was kind of insulted because the writers and director of that Tom Cruise one, no one ever contacted me. I contact people if I was going to take over somebody’s thing.”

Jason Statham is someone who is admirably unpretentious and genuinely grateful for his success, and within that, he has a definite preference of films that can predominantly define his career. Earlier this year, Statham was seen in The Beekeeper, a seemingly usual action B-movie fare with the star, but the movie from Suicide Squad director David Ayer would throw in some bold conceptual curve balls to the normal vengeance tale. Deadline has now reported that Statham will be working with director Baltasar Kormákur for his next action film.
Kormákur’s resume features such credits as Contraband, 2 Guns, Everest and the recent Idris Elba lion attack film, Beast. According to Deadline, “In the currently untitled pic, Statham will play Mason who lives in isolation in a remote Scottish island. Brendan Fraser’s The Mummy would’ve had a different actor playing a crucial role in the film. During a recent interview, director Stephen Sommers revealed that he tried to cast a famous Star Wars actor in the film. The character of Ardeth Bay in the film was initially written for an older actor and Sommers tried to cast Darth Vader actor James Earl Jones in the role. The director also considered Roscoe Lee Browne in the role, but both actors were busy with other projects.

Sommers then had to rewrite the character to be played by a much younger actor and cast Israeli actor Oded Fehr in the role. The character returned once again in the sequel film, The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

Long before headlining Amazon Prime’s The Boys series as Billy Butcher, Karl Urban attempted to lead a comic book film Dredd. The film was based on the comic strip Judge Dredd created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra for the 2000 Ad comic magazine. But this year’s edition may be light on the red carpet glitz that lures celebrities to the Côte d’Azur for eye-popping photo memes and offshore yacht revels. Remember Madonna’s 1991 pointy Gaultier bustier? Elizabeth Taylor holding her white dog as “Cliffhanger” star Sylvester Stallone climbed the steps to meet her at the top? Such viral moments are what Cannes director Thierry Fremaux dreams of.
High-octane stars expected to hit the Palais photo gauntlet include two-time Oscar-winner Emma Stone, who stars in all three stories in competition title “Kinds of Kindness” (Searchlight), Yorgos Lanthimos’ edgy follow-up to $100-million grosser “Poor Things.” Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth will add some sizzle for out-of-competition prequel “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” (Warner Bros.), George Miller’s rollercoaster return after 2015’s Oscar-winning “Mad Max: Fury Road.

Veteran filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has been vocal about his preferences when it comes to movies and he’s not afraid to criticize or slam those that did not hit the mark for him. One of his filmmaking idols is Steven Spielberg, and while he loves some of the director’s projects, there’s one he hates the most.
Harrison Ford and Sean Connery in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
It became controversial because the movie in question is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. The film has been celebrated by many fans, so it’s a huge mystery why Tarantino did not like it.

Taylor Sheridan’s one Yellowstone spinoff is yet to start production after being greenlit in 2021. The series titled 6666 was set up in one of the episodes of Season 4 of Yellowstone when Jimmy Hurdstrom, played by Jefferson White, left the Montana ranch to work in the 6666 ranch in Texas.
Sheridan himself revealed the reason why 6666 is taking time to reach the small screen, and the reason suggests that the series may take even more time to get made.

Sylvester Stallone has recut Rocky 6, aka Rocky Balboa, and we’ll get to see the new cut of the movie in the summer. More here.
Following his tinkering with the iconic Rocky IV, Sylvester Stallone admitted that he was looking at putting together alternate cuts of some of his other Rocky movies. He’s been true to his word too, with franchise revival Rocky Balboa next in line for the treatment.
It became known that the original cut of the movie went well past the two hour mark. MGM was believed to be instrumental in Stallone cutting it back to just over 100 minutes, and inevitably, this left a lot on the cutting room floor. Still, the film was very well received, and had it not taken off in the way that it did, we probably wouldn’t have the Creed franchise now.

The director of Green Book, Peter Farrelly, is set to make a film based on the ultimate Hollywood underdog story: the making of 1976’s Rocky.
That old saying about art mirroring life? It’s never been as true (in Hollywood at least) as in the mid-1970s when a young Sylvester Stallone wrote a boxing underdog story that was pursued by a major movie studio. However, Stallone refused to sell unless he got to play the lead, despite suffering from a partially paralysed face and a speech impediment.
In the end, the underdog triumphed and that film, Rocky, became one of the most successful films of the year and an instant classic. Now it has been announced that Peter Farrelly will be turning the real-life drama of Stallone’s fight to get the film made – while also staying involved in the project – to the screen.

"Rocky" is one of the most beloved sports movies of all time. One could probably even stretch beyond to say that it's plainly and simply one of the most beloved American movies ever made. Now, the movie is getting the "making of" treatment in a new film titled "I Play Rocky." The project has lined up a slightly unexpected director in the form of Peter Farrelly, known best for his work on screwball comedies such as "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb & Dumber."
According to Variety, Farrelly is set to direct. What's more, casting is already underway for the lead role. Sylvester Stallone, who played Rocky Balboa in the original and its many sequels, is not specifically named as the inspiration for this lead role. Now here’s a real underdog story. Peter Farrelly (“Green Book”) is set to direct a film inspired by the story of how Sylvester Stallone came to make his seminal 1976 boxing film “Rocky.”
The film is titled “I Play Rocky,” and per its official logline, which never names Stallone directly, the film “follows a struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment who writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead.”
The logline continues: “Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role.” The movie becomes the biggest box office hit of 1976, garnering 10 Academy Award nominations and winning Best Picture.

Sylvester Stallone is set to part with some of his beloved watches, with the Rocky star auctioning 11 luxury timepieces from his collection at Sotheby’s New York on June 5. Included in the sale is an extremely rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, seen by enthusiasts and collectors as one of the most complicated wristwatches in the world, that originally sold for $2.5 million.
Aside from Stallone’s star power, what’s sure to draw interest to the forthcoming sale is that this will be the first time a Grandmaster Chime has been put up for commercial auction. In 2019, at the Only Watch charitable auction, a one-off steel model Grandmaster Chime sold for a whopping $31 million, setting a record. Stallone’s Grandmaster Chime has a price estimate between $2.5 million to $5 million, but is likely to climb well north of that, with a record price for a watch at a non-charity auction a real possibility.

Paramount Advertising President John Halley was preparing to preside over an upfront pitch to Publicis, one of the four major holding companies in the ad business, when big news crossed the wire.
Bob Bakish was officially out as CEO of Paramount Global. Much of the reason that the 27-year company veteran lost favor with board members and controlling shareholder Shari Redstone had to do with intensifying merger talks, which have also kept Paramount in the headlines. A couple of hours before the Publicis dinner, Paramount capped its newsy day by conducting a 9-minute earnings call and declining to field any questions from Wall Street analysts.
“It’s not my favorite backdrop,” Halley dryly conceded in an interview with Deadline. “I thought, ‘Is this going to derail our messaging?’ And we got into the room and it was very clear immediately that that was background and not foreground. We acknowledged it,...

A striking home once owned by sports icon and three-time heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali has hit the auction block.
The seven-bedroom Los Angeles mansion was built in the Italian Renaissance style in 1916. Ali purchased the property in 1979 and lived there until 1984 with his third wife, Veronica, and their children Leila and Hana. Ali hosted numerous celebrities at his home, including Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, and Michael Jackson, according to Robb Report.
The house is one of 70 located within Fremont Place, an exclusive gated community in the city’s desirable Hancock Park neighborhood. John C. Austin, the architect behind LA’s Griffith Observatory and LA City Hall, designed the home.

With great reviews, tons of publicity, and two more-popular-than-ever movie stars in the leads, The Fall Guy should have kicked the summer 2024 box office off in high style. Indeed, Hollywood was expecting a $40 million opening (we expected a more modest $35 million). Still, according to Deadline’s early numbers, The Fall Guy looks like it won’t even crack the $30 million mark. This is a bad opening for a mega-budget action movie and seems to be further evidence that movie stars – as we used to know them – don’t exist anymore.
Think about it. Is there any actor or actress who can guarantee a movie “opens”? It used to be that people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, and a bunch of others were considered “bankable” in that having them in your film was basically “money in the bank.” There’s not really anyone like that left anymore,...
