Larry Wilmore says “finally.” Greg Grunberg says “Mazel tov! Writers Strike Deal!!!”
Bill Wolkoff promises not to picket Dancing with the Stars.
The Writers Guild has reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end its strike after nearly five months, and needless to say — the members have thoughts, lots of happy thoughts. And it’s all spilling out on social media.
Here’s a roundup of their reactions so far:
Billy Ray: “To all my fellow writers— You earned this. You saved our profession. Now let’s continue to stand w the actors. And IATSE. And the Teamsters. And labor everywhere. That’s how we’ll save America.”
Wolkoff: “Day 146. It gives me great pleasure to say we will Not be picketing Dancing With The Stars tomorrow! I really can’t wait to watch the premiere on Tuesday, because we did it!

In January 2020, the most popular movie on Netflix was “Don’t Look Up,” a newly released disaster comedy with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. But the second-most-popular movie was “Just Go With It,” an Adam Sandler flick from 2011 that had just started streaming on the service.
Timothy Dowling, who co-wrote the screenplay for that film, watched in anticipation as a movie he’d made more than a decade before inexplicably climbed the Netflix charts. But when his next residual check arrived, he received an unwelcome surprise. “I saw no noticeable change in the residuals I got,” Dowling says, referencing the money that film and TV talent receive when their movies or shows are broadcast, syndicated or appear on home entertainment platforms. He was baffled. “Clearly, Netflix paid money for this,” he says. “But is that money trickling down to the writer?”

Ninety-five members of the Writers Guild of America have signed a letter sent to the guild’s board of directors urging that it divest from gun companies and any companies that support the NRA.
The letter, sent to the Board Tuesday, warns “Gun violence enabled by the ready availability of military grade weapons, has become one of the biggest threats to the safety and security of the American people.” The letter continues, “We urge the WGA and the WGA Pension Plan to divest of all stocks of any gun or ammunition manufacturer, and any company that provides material support to the gun industry lobbying organization called The National Rifle Association, whether through donations, deductions or other means (e.g. Federal Express), until such time as sensible national gun reform legislation is passed.”
It is signed by 95 members of both WGA West and WGA East.

DreamWorks continues to send out the RSVPs for its upcoming festive comedy Office Christmas Party, with Jamie Chung, Karan Soni and Da’Vine Joy Randolph being the latest additions to the ensemble.
First reported by The Wrap, no details were disclosed regarding their specific roles in the flick, though we do know they’ll be staging said party alongside Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman – the Horrible Bosses co-stars will anchor the office bash as the de-facto leads – X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn, T.J. Will Speck and Josh Gordon (Blades of Glory) are behind the lens, directing from a script pitched by Timothy Dowling. Incase it wasn’t readily apparent, Office Christmas Party centers on an end-of-year bash that quickly gets out of hand, as such festivities tend to do.

Yeah, yeah, the Oscars were last night, congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio and Spotlight and all, celebration of quality filmmaking, whatever. Let's look at the winners of what really matters: the Razzies! As is tradition, the Razzie winners were announced the night before the Oscar ceremony. No big surprises here: Fifty Shades of Grey took home most of the "prizes" though Fantastic Four took home a few big ones as well. Both movies tied for Worst Picture. And while Eddie Redmayne may have lost out on the Oscar to DiCaprio, he did get a Razzie for Worst Supporting Actor for Jupiter Ascending. Congratulations, Eddie! The Razzie Awards have actually managed to stake their claim on a part of the film world now, with their yearly release not going unnoticed by anyone, and this despite the fact that you too can vote for them, as long as you buy in.
This year was bound to be dominated by the biggest winners, because no movie managed more universal hatred than Fifty Shades of Grey (and those who hated it weren’t always waiting for the release), unless it was Fantastic Four and it’s director outrage kurfuffle (he managed his own award as well).
Many of the other awards were largely foregone conclusions as well, mainly because Kevin James, Adam Sandler, and The Chipmunks made movies… or whatever.
Still, worst movies and performances make for tricky voting. It’s hard to pick among the nominees sometimes, which explains the dual win for overall worst picture, but...

While most of the Tinseltown contingent is busy handing out trophies and pats on the back, the Razzies judges are releasing their picks for the entertainment industry’s weakest work over the past year.

Actually, “Fifty Shades” also earned nods for director Sam Taylor-Johnson and stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, with six nominations in total.

It's the day before the Oscar nominations are announced, and that means Razzies! Yes, the nominees for the awards that celebrate the best of the worst have been announced. Not too many surprises this year: "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Jupiter Ascending," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" led the pack with six nominations each. Really the only surprise was that "Mortdecai" wasn't up there with them (it only got three noms). Oh, and that Julianne Moore was nominated. I didn't see "Seventh Son" but I can't imagine that she was bad enough in it to be considered one of the worst performances this year. She's Julianne Moore! And dubious congratulations are in order for Kevin James, who was nominated in several acting categories for his work last year. Winners will be announced on February 27 -- as always, the night before the Oscars are handed out. Worst Picture "Fantastic Four" "Fifty Shades of Grey...

Yes, it's that time of the year again! The day before Hollywood pats itself on the back with Oscar nominations, the Razzies show up to remind everyone why Hollywood deserves a few raspberries with the champagne.
Besides as Jean-Ralphio could tell you, there's nothing more fun than honoring the wooooorst:
This year, there's a four-way tie for the dubious honor of most Razzie Award nominations: "Fifty Shades of Grey," "Pixels," "Jupiter Ascending," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" got six nods. That, at least, is some small consolation for "Fantastic Four," which walked away with "only" five nominations. And "Pan," "Mortdecai," and "Human Centipede 3" were seriously let off the hook. (Hook -- get it? The worst!)
Here's an exciting note: Eddie Redmayne has a chance to win both an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year, since the reigning Best Actor winner will probably be nominated again for "The Danish Girl...

Bob Cooper and Charles Segars will produce that project, no word as yet when it might go into production.

'Pixels' movie weekend box office: Adam Sandler vs. 'Ant-Man' Despite its underwhelming domestic box office debut last weekend, Marvel's Ant-Man may turn out to be the winner in North America this weekend (July 24–26, '15) thanks to another underwhelming debut: that of the Adam Sandler Pixels movie. According to weekend box office projections found at Variety, the Chris Columbus-directed Pixels is expected to open with $25 million from 3,723 locations – following a $10 million Friday take (including $1.5M from Thursday previews). If so, that'll place Adam Sandler's latest lowbrow comedy – now in 3D – on a par with Sandler domestic disappointments like Jack and Jill and Funny People. Deadline.com, for its part, is expecting $27-$28 million by Sunday evening. Sat., July 25, update: According to studio box office estimates, Pixels underperformed on Friday, taking in $9.2 million. The King of Kong: Columbus Peddles Dopey Sandler Comedy

Film Review: Instead of Geeky Greatness, Adam Sandler Sucks the Soul Out of a Badly Miscast ‘Pixels’
Chicago – The epitome of an idea that far outweighs its execution, “Pixels” is a bittersweet blunder that had all of the elements to be geeky great but ends up being cheesy mediocre. I could literally feel its potential for 105 minutes, but the $88 million film ultimately fails to realize it.
Rating: 2.0/5.0
At the heart of the issue is miscasting and specifically Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. Even though he and his production company let me down in the critically panned “The Hot Chick,” “50 First Dates,” “The Longest Yard,” “The Benchwarmers,” “Click,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” and on and on, I honestly always give Sandler a chance even though his humor almost never works for me.
Despite my love for Pac-man, I was disappointed going into “Pixels” to see Sandler in such a lead role with his production company attached and his pals making bank with him. Still, I...

Even as an Adam Sandler/Kevin James-vehicle, Pixels deserves to be more inspired. The arcade-loving, '80s-centric action-comedy transitioned to the big screen from Patrick Jean's inventive world-domination-by-8-bits short film wields the fine set pieces, tech resources and token-required games to earn a top score. But Sandler and his team don't even attempt to advance to the next level, constantly drawing on the comedian's trademark sophomoric cheat codes to hastily produce what's essentially the poor man's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, global-annihilation movie. Make no mistake: this is a Happy Madison production through-and-through. Minus extensive pratfall jokes with James or unnecessary Rob Schneider or Steve Buscemi pop-ups, almost every check mark from the Sandler production list is marked. Cheap insults directed towards one physical trait from different supporting charactersc Check. Sandler getting the out-of-his-league girl (in this case, Michelle Monaghan) because he's our main slubby do-gooderc You bet.

Nope. Chris Columbus appears to be at war with the Happy Madison team at almost every moment in this film, and unfortunately, inertia eventually wins. By now, you have to be aware of the premise for the film. Sony has done a tremendous job of selling the idea. Aliens, after being exposed to our video games from the '80s, have decided to invade the Earth, seeing the games as a challenge of war. They send those familiar game icons against us, and three former arcade champions are forced to defend the Earth using their arcade skills. Fine. I have no problem with the idea. I even like the basic character set-up. These arcade champions, treated like young gods in the opening flashback of the film, all find themselves adrift as adults. Brenner (Adam Sandler) is working on the movie's version of the Geek Squad from Best Buy. Ludlow (Josh Gad...

USA, 2015
There are mild amusements to be found in Pixels. Nostalgia oozes from every cinematic pore, as director Chris Columbus weaves these videogame relics into a modern landscape. Unfortunately, rather than fully committing to his elegant premise, Columbus gets bogged down in unconvincing character development. It’s easier to believe a ginormous Pac-Man will chomp New York City than Kevin James will ever be President of the United States! Sandler fans and little kids might enjoy this rollcall of ‘80s game icons, but everyone else should just rent Ghostbusters instead.
Pixels is a love letter to old school gamers. The original nerds who spent way too much time (and money) at the local video arcade when they should have been cutting class and sneaking cigarettes, instead. Like any self-respecting clique, these gamers had their own de facto leaders. In this particular case,...

"We've never faced a threat like this before." Sony has debuted the second, full-length trailer for Pixels, the video game action adventure creation starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James and Pac-Man. It also stars Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad, and Sean Bean. After a fun teaser trailer, they finally explain more of the plot in thist railer, introducing each of the vintage arcade players who will take on these video game invaders (this does seem a bit similar to that "Futurama" episode). Pixels does look like it's going to be fun to watch, I'll give it that. I just hope the humor isn't so bad, but you never know. Enjoy! Here's the second trailer for Chris Columbus' Pixels, direct from Sony Pictures: Pixels is directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) and written by Timothy Dowling (Role Models, This Means War) and Adam Sandler,...

When aliens use some of Earth's most popular video game characters, including Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Frogger, and Space Invaders, it's up to a group of 80s arcade champions to save the day. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet. Directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone, Home Alone) off a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the short film of the same name by Patrick Jean,...

What would you do if aliens interpreted examples of 1980s video games found in a space probe as a declaration of war? And sent giant versions of icons such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to attack us? Clearly, you’d hire... Adam Sandler to defend the human race. Or at least, that’s what happens in action-comedy Pixels. Spawned from Patrick Jean’s inventive short, Pixels has is a big, brash Roland Emmerich-style alien invasion thriller welded to a high-concept Sandler comedy. "Some alien life force has sent real-life video games to attack us." You've never seen an alien invasion quite like this. Pixels is coming this summer, a sci-fi action comedy starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage that sees aliens taking the form of classic arcade game characters from Donkey Kong, Centipede, Space Invaders and Pac-Man and wreaking havoc on the world. And that means only a group of gamers from the 80s can stop them. This easily looks like it could be Sandler's best film in a long time. It's even more epic than we thought, but there's definitely some humor here too. Watch below! With its release positioned just two weeks after Avengers: Age of Ultron, you can see why everyone’s getting excited about Chris Columbus’ upcoming blockbuster, Pixels.
Sony isn’t going to risk putting something people won’t want to turn out to see opposite Age of Ultron’s third and fourth frames. It’s already pegged to be the best thing we’ve seen Adam Sandler do in some time, which is a great prospect enough as it is.
In the past few days, the studio’s been teasing a couple of first looks at the film, and now they’ve launched a new promo ahead of its appearance at Comic-Con, inviting conventiongoers the chance to win a role in the movie.

Audiences who have been missing their daily dose of Jenna insanity ever since NBC’s 30 Rock wrapped up are in luck – Deadline is reporting that Jane Krakowski has signed on to play another crazy character in the upcoming movie Pixels.
The actress will play the First Lady of the United States (to give you some perspective, the President is being played by Kevin James), who previously had a romantic relationship with the lead character (Adam Sandler). Though Pixels was originally dismissed as an Adam Sandler film, we actually do have reason to be excited for it. The flick, directed by Harry Potter helmer Chris Columbus, focuses on a group of old-school video gamers who become essential to combatting a powerful alien race which attacks after misinterpreting feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of intergalactic war.
So far, the cast that has been announced for Pixels is pretty inpressive.

Will Blended be remembered the nadir of comedian Adam Sandler’s film career? I certainly hope it will be, because I simply can’t imagine a worse film than that mess of offensive cliches (and yes, that includes Jack & Jill). Additionally, Sandler’s upcoming projects actually look – dare I say it – promising. He’s got The Cobbler from Win Win writer-director Thomas McCarthy and Jason Reitman’s Men, Women and Children both in the can, and now Sandler is getting down to business filming sci-fi adventure Pixels. Today, veteran character actor Brian Cox joined that last film, further raising my hopes for what already sounds like an interesting project.
Directed by Chris Columbus (who helmed the first two Harry Potter movies and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), Pixels is a big-budget sci-fi action adventure which stars Sandler as a video game champion enlisted to fight off invading aliens.
