Put it your calendar to wear your tights and capes on June 26, 2026 as the Warner Bros/DC Studios feature take of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters.
There are no wide entries dated on Supergirl’s weekend.
The Craig Gillespie directed, Milly Alcock starring adaptation of Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated, is the second feature title under the new DC Studios run by James Gunn and Peter Safran after the former’s Superman movie which hits theaters in July 11, 2025. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic book for the big screen.
Gunn said at a DC Studios presser early last year that in their Supergirl “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched...

The director of Cruella and I, Tonya is in line to make one of the key films in the new-look DC Universe – Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow – according to reports.
To date, we’ve heard a few promising nuggets of information about Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow, one of several films planned for James Gunn’s new-look DC Universe. The character is set to be a departure from previous takes on the character that we’ve seen from actors such as Helen Slater and Sasha Calle.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, we now have a director in place too, and the good news continues. Craig Gillespie is reportedly in negotiations to helm the film and this feels like a really good match. Whether he helms offbeat movies such as Dumb Money or I, Tonya or big studio flicks like Cruella, Gillespie brings a real verve and playfulness to his films and given...

Another attempt to get Supergirl off the ground is in the works with Ana Nogueira returning for another crack at Kara Zor-El.
Ever since James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their plans for the new look DC Universe, we’ve known that a Supergirl film would be be coming and now it seems that the project has a writer attached to it. Actress and playwright Ana Nogueira has signed a deal to pen the script for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.
This isn’t Nogueira’s first crack at Supergirl either, according to reports. When a different version of the character (played by Sasha Calle) was introduced in this year’s The Flash, much like Michael Keaton’s Batman from that film, the original plan was to further integrate the character into future projects, including a solo movie. While those plans would be shelved when Gunn and Safran came on board,...

Last week, we ran a special Wtf episode about the 1979 Disney movie, The Black Hole, an uncommonly adult film for the family-friendly studio. It kicked off an experiment for the studio to move into adult fare, eventually spawning no less than three subsidiaries that produced some of the most influential movies of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. These off-shoots paved the way for Disney’s place as the most powerful motion picture studio in the world, with them owning Lucasfilm, Pixar and the MCU. With the studio celebrating its 100th anniversary, we figured now would be an opportune time to look back at the studio Disney launched to distribute their more grown-up fare, the now shuttered Touchstone Pictures.

Andy Muschietti's recent superhero flick "The Flash" hoped to lure in audiences with a sprawling story that spans several parallel universes. It was the same approach taken by John Watts in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and Sam Raimi in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," in that all three films assembled multiple versions of certain superhero characters culled from various extant movie franchises. "The Flash" contains the Ben Affleck version of Batman as he appeared in Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," as well as the Michael Keaton version of Batman as he appeared in Tim Burton's 1989 film called merely "Batman." The Flash, he finds, can run so fast that he can travel into alternate timelines.

Nicolas Cage found his cameo in 'The Flash' "satisfying".The 59-year-old actor was supposed to portray Superman in 1998's 'Superman Lives' but Warner Bros. pulled the plug just weeks before filming was set to begin, so he admitted he was thrilled to finally bring the character to life in the 2023 movie, albeit very briefly. He quipped to USA Today: “Well, I was glad I didn’t blink."He then added: "For me, it was the feeling of being actualised. Even that look for that particular character, finally seeing it on screen, was satisfying. But as I said, it’s quick.”The cameo sees Nicolas appear as Superman fighting a giant spider during a scene where Ezra Miller, as Barry Allen, opens the multiverse to see different universes, with the clip also featuring Christopher Reeve and George Reeve as the Man of Steel, Helen Slater as Supergirl, and Adam West's Batman.

DC’s The Flash had a lot of buzz around it prior to release, partly through the exploits of star Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton once again donning the cowl to play Batman. Once The Flash flopped, most of the conversation that was left centered on the special appearances from other DC characters, including a brief one from Christopher Reeve’s iconic take on Superman. But not everyone thought it was a touching inclusion.
Responding to one take that Christopher Reeve’s The Flash cameo was “one of the worst things I’ve seen in any film, ever”, John Glover – who Lionel Luther on Smallville – leaped tall buildings to defend the choice, tweeting, “I think it’s up to his family / estate and not anyone else. Now that The Flash has hit theaters to reset the DC Universe, Awfully Good Movies is running back in time to watch the debut film for one of The Flash’s breakout characters, Helen Slater in 1984’s Supergirl!
In between the disappointment of Superman III and the catastrophe of Superman IV, original franchise producers Alexander and Ilya Salkind decided to switch focus from the Man of Steel to his female cousin Kara Zor-El with an in-universe spinoff that’d have a cameo from Christopher Reeve himself to mentor his fellow Kryptonian and star Helen Slater in the young actress’ debut role. But after Reeve turned the film down before filming, and Warner Bros. grew so fed up with the Salkinds that they sold the distribution rights back to them, Supergirl would instead flop so hard at the box office that the Salkinds just gave up on the Superman film rights altogether,...

“The Flash” is here, and if you’ve seen it, you probably have a lot of questions about what it all, especially that cacophonous ending, means for the DC Universe.
In the film, Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travels back in time and to other dimensions in an effort to save his mom’s life. Along the way he interacts with at least two actors playing Batman — Ben Affleck from Zack Snyder’s films, and Michael Keaton, who last played the role in 1992’s “Batman Returns” — alongside a whole lot of other characters. And suffice to say by the end, Barry is in a very different place than he was when the film started.
So what does that mean for the cohort of DC characters established by Zack Snyder in 2013’s “Man of Steel” and 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”? And is all of this related to total reboot...

"There is a land of the living, and the land of the dead, and the bridge is love – the only survival, the only meaning." Quiver Distr. has released an official trailer for an indie dramedy titled Chantilly Bridge, the latest from filmmaker Linda Yellen. The film is a follow-up to her feature Chantilly Lace from 1993, which was shot at the Sundance resort, a 30-years-later look (though the movie says it's 25 years later) at these same friends and what they're up to nowadays. Years later, the same brilliant actresses from Chantilly Lace return to bring their characters to life again in Chantilly Bridge. In a rare cinematic experience that travels back and forth between films, the characters' memories implode on the present. With unpredictable humor and searing honesty they confront old resentments, celebrate milestones, and rediscover the unbreakable bond among friends who knew each other when, there for each other now.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out their future plans for DC Studios, and the results are pretty exciting. Having the ship steered by someone with a clear vision and an obvious love of the source material is exactly what DC movies need. Speaking of comics, Gunn recently tweeted the inspirations behind DC's new direction. He was careful to say that while these books are significant to upcoming projects, DC Studios won't be adapting them all. It's great news because the comics serving as "touchstones" are all excellent!
DC Studios may not be directly adapting all the books Gunn mentioned, but we know one recent comic that is definitely getting a movie: "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." The eight-issue miniseries from Tom King and Bilquis Evely first hit stands in 2021, wrapping up the following year.

James Gunn and Peter Safran outlined the “first part of the first chapter” of the new DC movie and TV universe, simply dubbed Dcu at a press conference on the Warner Bros. lot this week. Amidst a slate of projects that includes everything from Booster Gold to The Authority to Creature Commandos to a new Batman (with Robin) and much more, there was a lot of love for Superman and his world. The first film of the new Dcu, which officially has the title of Superman: Legacy, will be released on July 11, 2025. Two years after that, another Kryptonian will join the party, in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the first solo big screen adventure for Kara Zor-El since Helen Slater wore the cape back in 1984.

Melissa Benoist has had quite the experience on "Supergirl." The Girl of Steel's story witnessed six seasons, a rattling network change from CBS to The CW, and multiple Arrowverse crossovers — but the superhero shined through it all. "Supergirl" arrived in late 2015 when superheroes on television had just started to make it big. "Arrow" and "The Flash" were already live, and "Daredevil" had started a few months prior on Netflix.
But superhero shows with women in the lead were non-existent -- "Jessica Jones" was a month away -- not to mention the character of Supergirl hadn't been seen on screen since the poorly-received 1984 film starring Helen Slater. This renewed serialized iteration of the story placed an unapologetic focus on its female protagonist, and treated her like the powerful superhero she was, while simultaneously balancing action-heavy storylines with her personal life. Benoist was a charming leading star — she assumed Supergirl's optimism and morals,...

Ah, the glory days of early 2000s television, when studios scrambled to capitalize on the success of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Friends," and "Beverly Hills, 90210." Enter The WB's "Smallville," a Superman prequel based on the blue boy's formative years, before he donned the tights, red underwear, and cape. Starring Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lane, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Sam Jones III as Pete Ross, and Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, the series offered a fun spin on the Superman story and tinkered with iconic characters in a way that made them feel fresh. Lex Luthor, for example, starts out as Clark's best friend and gradually devolves into his comic-book counterpart. At the same time, Superman regulars such as Lois Lane (Erica Durance), Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore), and Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) were given makeovers to properly update them for the modern era; ditto...

Dark Crisis as an event has been a bit hit and miss, both the main series and the various spin-offs. It has, though, maintained a respectable entertainment level overall, and of course the end game of all this has been to bring back the Multiverse. I’ve always been a Multiverse fan, growing up reading comics in the late 1970s/ early 1980s when the Jsa Earth-2 were two of my favourite things in comics (and still are). This book looks tailor-made for me, throw in the fact it’s written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund, classic DC creators all, and we should have a winner. Hopefully.
Let’s take a look.

Even the most diehard Flash fan has to admit that evil speedsters are a dime a dozen. For every Barry Allen or Wally West who enters the Speed Force, there’s a Reverse Flash or Black Flash, who use their superspeed to do horrendous harm to reality. So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to learn that in the 9th and final season of The Flash on The CW, Barry will be facing off against yet another evil speedster: the Red Death.
Say what you will about the saturation of speedsters in the world of The Flash, the origin of the Red Death in more recent DC comics does set the character apart, as does the actor playing Red Death for The CW version: Javicia Leslie, who most recently portrayed the title character on Batwoman. This makes A Lot of sense.

With Michael Keaton’s new Bat-suit for The Flash and Batgirl already shown, and with set photos showing Xolo Maridueña’s costume for Blue Beetle making the rounds, fans get another treat with images coming from the Licensing Expo at Las Vegas.
These photos show a much brighter suit than previously worn by The Flash star Ezra Miller, something much closer in tone to the costume that Grant Gustin has worn playing the Flash on the CW series. More notably, the costume appears to consist of a single piece, as opposed to the more piece-meal suit Miller had in Justice League and the “Knightmare” sequence at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Supergirl two-parter series finale.
It’s all or nothing for Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers and her Super Friends in the final hours of the CW’s Supergirl.
Kicking off with “The Last Gauntlet,” Supergirl picks up right were the previous installment left off – with Esme (Mila Jones) in Lex (Jon Cryer) and Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) possession. A hostage in hand, the criminals-turned-lovers propose that Kara, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and the rest of the gang trade in their totems for the kid. Of course, this is before Lex and Nyxly realize that the Love totem, absorbed by Esme in the previous episode, is already looking for a new host.
J’onn (David Harewood), Kara, Alex and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) reflect on how they’ve put their loved ones in danger – grieving the recent death of William Dey (Staz Nair). They’re all...

Sasha Calle, who is next set to star as Supergirl in DC’s “The Flash,” has signed with CAA.
“The Flash” — which is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 4, 2022 — will mark Calle’s feature film debut. In the DC Comics universe movie, Calle stars opposite Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, and Kiersey Clemons. Christina Hodson, who wrote the “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee” and “Birds of Prey,” penned the latest version of the script.
Director Andy Muschietti announced news of Calle’s casting by posting an emotional video to Instagram, where the actor discovers on camera that she has landed the part.
“Little me would be like, ‘No way,’” she says, through tears. “I’m probably not going to stop crying all day.”
Calle reportedly beat out more than 400 actors for the superhero role, becoming the first Latina ever to portray Supergirl. Helen Slater donned the red and blue super suit...

"Who wants to be normal?!" Dada Films has released a new official US trailer for a Chinese-American film titled Confetti, written and directed by filmmaker Anne Hu (of Shadow Magic), telling her own story of moving to America when she was young. The film is a hopeful drama about overcoming personal challenges and focuses on a mother struggling with illiteracy and her daughter recently diagnosed with dyslexia after they move to New York City. It stars up-and-coming actress Zhu Zhu, along with Amy Irving, Helen Slater, and Harmonie He. Confetti "looks at the often-silent struggles faced by so many immigrant families. Featuring an affecting performance by Zhu Zhu, a steely and strong-willed turn by Amy Irving, and a delightful debut from young Harmonie He, Confetti shows that amongst a deluge of challenges, a sprinkling of hope, heart, and determination can help make sense of a confusing world and our place in it.

It does feel as though a lot of people would gladly promote this retro Justice League in a heartbeat if every actor could be brought back to perform their role. But as it stands, only Michael Keaton is apparently coming back, and there’s no telling just how that’s going to go. Christopher Reeve passed away after years confined to a wheelchair, unfortunately, and Gene Hackman retired. John Wesley Shipp is in his 60s at this point, as is Lynda Carter, and Helen Slater, who played Supergirl back in the day, is in her 50s. So sadly we’ll never see this

It’s that time of year, and of month, again. October means Halloween, pumpkins and trick-or-treating, but now is also when we get to feast our eyes upon all the new horror movies coming to Netflix.
Of course, we’ll be losing a few of our favorites, too. When September ends, Eight Legged Freaks and Ghost Ship, among others will be gone. If you’re a fan of witches, cursed statues and Stephen King, though, then next month is your time.
For starters, we have 2009’s The Figurine arriving on the streaming platform, which is reminiscent of a certain Supernatural episode involving a lucky rabbit’s foot. It follows two boys who find a cursed statue in the woods that gives whoever finds it seven years of good luck, followed by seven years of the opposite.
Another adaptation of a King horror novella, In The Tall Grass, is also on the way.

On that note, while it hasn’t been confirmed just yet, there’s at least one more star that the producers are trying to get on board: Helen Slater, who featured as the Girl of Steel in 1984’s Supergirl movie. Ep Marc Guggenheim opened up to /Film about the crossover, teasing that no one’s off the table when it comes to “Crisis,” with the exec himself hoping to get Slater back as Kara Zor-El.

Just as Robert Pattinson will relaunch the Bat-mythos in The Batman, Warner Bros. is keen to restart the Kryptonian side of the DC universe, too. They’re holding off on rebooting Superman himself just yet, though, and instead will bring Supergirl to the big screen for the first time since 1984’s infamous flop starring Helen Slater. There’s every reason a Girl of Steel movie would work nowadays, though, especially if the studio finds the right star.
And on that note, we’ve heard about one individual in particular who WB’s eyeing. We Got This Covered’s been informed by a source that Elle Fanning is on the wishlist to play the lead in the Supergirl standalone movie. The Maleficent actress can often be seen in fan-casts to portray Kara Zor-El in the Dceu, so the fandom might be able to get behind her casting if that’s where WB decided to go.

Anyone who’s long been familiar with DC TV knows that whenever an actor has played a certain iconic character, they may find themselves employed for life. Some prime examples of this are folks such as Dean Cain, Helen Slater, Sam Witwer and John Wesley Shipp, each of which have found happy homes in the Arrowverse more recently. Really, the actual list goes on and on – especially if we were to discuss voice acting.
At the time of this writing, we’re anticipating Stephen Amell’s tenure as the Green Arrow to come to an end with his show’s eighth and final season. Still, a return to the character can’t be dismissed because we can’t rule out him taking part in a future crossover as a doppelganger, or even as the Oliver Queen we know and love during a flashback or something. Hey, even the man himself is open to the possibility.

DC fans have been wondering what’s going to happen with Superman on the big screen for a while now, as reports tell us that Henry Cavill may be hanging up his red cape and retiring as the Man of Steel. With Gotham having run for five seasons, one positive thing to come out of its longevity is that the actor originally cast as the young Bruce Wayne will be able to play Batman in some capacity during the series finale. In case you hadn’t heard, camera trickery will be used to show David Mazouz’s face under the cowl, while a guy boasting a larger frame will stand in as the Dark Knight for most shots.
Still, one has to wonder what it’d be like for Mazouz to portray a full-on Caped Crusader by his lonesome. Fortunately, Cinema Blend asked him about the possibility while at the TCA winter press tour, and here’s what he had to say:

Supergirl‘s the latest DC hero to have their own movie in the works, as last week it was revealed that Warner Bros. were planing on bringing the Girl of Steel back to the silver screen for the first time since 1984’s honestly pretty crummy solo film starring Helen Slater.
The news was received warmly by fans, but those who’ve been paying attention to the past few films from the comic book company shouldn’t have been surprised. After all, it’s long been theorized that Kara Zor-El definitely exists in the Worlds of DC universe, as an easter egg in Man of Steel seemed to hint at her arrival.
When Clark Kent discovers the Kryptonian scout ship hidden in the Arctic – effectively the movie’s version of the Fortress of Solitude – he finds a row of pods and one of the ones in the background can be seen to be open.

While comic book fans have been awaiting word on whether or not Henry Cavill will be getting the chance to play the role of Superman again following 2017's Justice League, Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has decided to give his cousin another shot at big screen stardom as Supergirl has gone into development. But without Melissa Benoist, who currently plays the character on the CW's Supergirl. The film, which is in the early stages, is being written by Oren Uziel. His previous credits are an interesting mix of comedy, drama, and horror, among them 22 Jump Street, Freaks of Nature, The Cloverfield Paradox, and next year’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog. Beyond Supergirl, he’s got 10 different projects in various stages of development. For a little background: The Kryptonian name of Supergirl is Kara Zor-El (earth identity Linda Danvers), who was sent from the doomed planet of Krypton...

The news broke this morning that the girl of steel, Supergirl, is on the path toward receiving her own feature film as part of DC’s growing cinematic universe. While the project is still in the early stages of development, Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox) will be penning the feature centered around Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who debuted in 1959. This will be the second feature to follow her adventures, following the critically maligned 1984 film starring Helen Slater.
