Harvey Keitel, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Brake and Jackson Rathbone are set to star in director Phil Blattenberger’s crime thriller Laws of Man, which will be shopped to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival.
Keitel will play a mysterious hippie preacher in the film about two U.S. marshals on a dangerous mission to arrest Benjamin Bonney, an outlaw wanted for murder, only to see a desert ambush thwart their plans. As the marshals navigate assassination attempts and looming catastrophe, they stumble onto a sinister plot that threatens the very foundations of peace and justice.
The film, earlier known as Without Consequence, is from Film Mode Entertainment, which handles worldwide sales, and Lost Galleon Films. The ensemble cast includes Jackson Rathbone, Graham Greene, Keith Carradine, Kelly Lynn Reiter and James Urbaniak.
Director Blattenberger, who also wrote the script for Laws of Man, will produce along with Dan Black and Jacob Keohane.

Stabler, Bell, and the rest of the Law & Order: Organized Crime crew might be wrapping up their final case soon.
Law & Order: Organized Crime's future is in doubt after NBC renewed the two other Law & Order shows and the One Chicago franchise without making a decision about this series.
They haven't canceled it outright, but this delay in renewal and last year's decision to order only half a season of Law & Order: Organized Crime are signs that NBC may be leaning toward cancellation, which would be a shame.
Law & Order: Organized Crime's ratings have never been as high as its sister shows. There are a few possible reasons for that.
The most obvious is that it airs at 10/9c, which may be too late for some viewers.

Stabler's family is falling apart, but at least he knocked someone else's corrupt father off his throne.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 8 featured the powerful end of the Bonner saga alongside Bernie's move out of Stabler's home -- and an equally tragic secret she's been holding onto forever.
The dialogue and deep emotion made the hour feel more like the last act of a classic film than an episodic TV show. What a fantastic story!
Meredith Bonner's struggle with guilt and pain was fascinating. This character began as a corrupt police chief who had Stabler arrested to get him out of her way, but she didn't seem like the same person anymore.
Losing her brother and realizing what enabling her father had gotten her opened her eyes, and she became the heroine she should have been all along instead of part of the problem.
Meredith was a tragic figure.

On March 21, 2004, HBO introduced audiences to the frontier outpost of Deadwood, where the Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane series ran for three seasons. Fifteen years after its premiere it was revived as a standalone movie on the premium cabler. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review of season one is below:
David Milch, executive producer of NYPD Blue and, before that, Hill Street Blues, has spent years looking at society from the perspective of those who enforce its laws and impose order. His new series, Deadwood, imagines a world without law, a world ruled only by the conscience of individuals, many of whom have none. The result is a Western unlike most others. It is brutal, passionate, heroic, tragic, blanketed by coarseness and always fascinating, though some times morbidly so.
Although it would be just as solid a drama if it were cut from whole cloth, Deadwood is deeply rooted in historical reality.

Tim Allen is one step closer to returning to ABC for a third time. The Alphabet net has given a pilot order to his latest sitcom, “Shifting Gears,” from 20th Television. Allen is on board to star and executive produce the multi-cam sitcom pilot — which is still a working title — which will also be written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully.
In the project, Allen plays Matt, the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina are the non-writing exec producers on the show.
“Shifting Gears” continues Allen’s long association with ABC and Disney, including the long-running hit (1991-1997) “Home Improvement.” Allen later starred on ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” which aired on the Alphabet web from 2011 to...

Was this Law & Order: Organized Crime or a Stephen King miniseries?
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 6 featured the second part of a multi-episode story about a serial killer based in a small town where everyone knows each other.
It had all the ingredients for a horrific tale... and then Keith Carridine drove it home with his performance.
I'm a sucker for stories set in seemingly perfect small towns where horrific secrets are kept carefully under wraps, and doubly so when the people in power are desperate to keep their secrets buried.
That made this story a near-perfect hour of television for me. Sometimes, the story reminded me of Twin Peaks without the surreal weirdness, so double-win!
I was surprised that the formerly hostile Chief Bonner readily accepted Stabler's help searching for a serial killer -- until she succumbed to her father's pressure.

The 1980s was a seminal period in the development of what we now define as the action movie. This was the decade that cemented the statuses of both Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger as the muscle-bound box office behemoths eating the competition for breakfast. Having emerged off the back of critically acclaimed efforts like Rocky and The Terminator, the years that followed saw the pair hone their greased-up on-screen personas to fine effect.
It wasn’t all about the muscles though. The 1980s also ushered in the era of the everyman action star with Bruce Willis in Die Hard and Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop opting for brains over brawn and reaping the benefits in multiplexes far and wide as a result. While Hollywood basked in the glory of a new generation of leading men, in the Far East, Jackie Chan was taking action movie physicality to a whole...

An enterprising surveyor of genre and tone, Ridley Scott has earned the admiration of audiences and critics alike with a seemingly unending interest in exploring the outermost limits of his art form. The British director broke onto the scene in 1977 with “The Duellists,” a French period drama starring Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine set during the Napoleonic Wars. He returns to the early 19th century with Joaquin Phoenix as its namesake historical figure with the epic “Napoleon,” in theaters November 22.
“I first became aware of Ridley Scott with his film ‘The Duellists,'” Francis Ford Coppola recently said of Scott’s debut in an Instagram post. “I was impressed, and realizing he was my contemporary began following his work, which was prodigious to say the least. One after the other, different styles, themes — all ambitious and never stopping, absolutely great films like ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Thelma & Louise,’ ‘Alien,’ and ‘Black Hawk Down....

Ridley Scott‘s wildly ambitious “Napoleon” might be the director’s last word on its subject, but it’s not the first time he tackled both the glory and the absurdity of the Napoleonic era. One could say that “Napoleon” has been 46 years in the making, since Scott first began thinking about and researching the French emperor during the making of his debut feature, “The Duellists,” in 1977. That film tells the story of two officers (Keith Carradine and Harvey Keitel) in Napoleon’s army who engage in an obsessive ritual of duels that goes on for so long that they ultimately forget what even started the grievance; in its setting, visual style, and themes, it’s an exceptionally well-realized template for most of the Ridley Scott epics that would follow — and he shot this historical extravaganza on a budget of around $800,000.

The Film
Based, apparently more closely, on the same book that was adapted into the 1949 film They Live By Night, Thieves Like Us feels to me as if it falls somewhere between being Robert Altman’s faithful take on a studio era gangster film, and a somewhat gentler response to Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde. Penn’s film arguably struck the final blow against what had been the standards in censorship in the US across the Hays Code years, ushering in the movie brats era, while Altman keeps much of the violence off screen, but otherwise makes a film that is very much of its time.
The plot is fairly loose, but follows three prison escapees—Bowie (Keith Carradine), Chicamaw (John Shuck) and T-Dub (Bert Remsen)—as they try to evade the authorities staying with relations (Louise Fletcher as T-Dub’s cousin) or criminal friends like Dee Mobley (Tom...

A-listers including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Quinta Brunson are among the more than 300 actors who have signed a letter to SAG-AFTRA urging the guild to stand firm in its demands from the AMPTP.
“We hope you’ve heard the message from us: This is an unprecedented inflection point in our industry, and what might be considered a good deal in any other years is simply not enough,” reads the letter, which was acquired by media outlets on Tuesday.
“We feel that our wages, our craft, our creative freedom and the power of our union have all been undermined in the last decade. We need to reverse those trajectories,” the letter continued, expressing solidarity with the ongoing WGA strike.
The letter comes after SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher spoke optimistically last week about reaching a “seminal deal” after “extremely productive” talks with studios.

It’s appropriate that Netflix dropped the sixth season of “Black Mirror” on June 15, the same day that Emmy voting began. The series isn’t eligible for this year’s awards, of course, but it has been a dominant force at the Emmys for years, even sparking a rule change that affects a number of other anthology programs this year.
And because of that rule change, it’s going to be a lot harder for any of those other programs — which include “Documentary Now!” and “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” — to be nominated for Emmys this year.
First, a little background. “Black Mirror,” created by Charlie Brooker and first airing in 2011, was inspired by the classic 1950s and ’60s series “The Twlight Zone,” in which Rod Serling used each episode to tell a different story — usually creepy or scary, usually with a twist, always with a moral. Back then,...

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.
Unlike comedy and drama series, which simply appear on the ballot by name, the limited series submissions include plot descriptions and cast lists. Which of the shows listed below do you think will land in the final lineup on...

Sony had been planning to give director Chris Weitz’s horror film They Listen a theatrical release on August 25th of this year, which is why we have it listed on our Summer Horror Movie Preview… but we’re going to have to remove it from that list, because Sony has (according to Yahoo) decided to delay the release an entire year. They Listen is now set to reach theatres on August 30, 2024.
They Listen is coming to us from Sony, Blumhouse, and Depth of Field. Weitz is producing the film with Jason Blum and Andrew Miano. Bea Sequeira, Dan Balgoyen, Britta Rowings, and Paul Davis serve as executive producers. Filming was already underway in Los Angeles back in December, so this movie is going to be complete and sitting on a shelf a while before its new release date rolls around next year.
All details about They Listen are being kept under wraps.

Keith Carradine starred in the Accused Season 1 finale as Billy, an aging rockstar battling cancer who is adjusting to the news by planning his lasting musical legacy.
Billy's attention is needed elsewhere, though, as his son struggles with addiction and ultimately dies of the disease when his wife chooses not to render aid, allowing, in her view, for her beloved son to find the peace he seeks.
Billy decides that as his life is coming to an end, he'll claim responsibility so his wife can raise their granddaughter.
We had the chance to talk with Carradine about his role on Accused Season 1 Episode 15 and what it was like getting to share his musical talents with a viewing audience again.
This interview has been edited for clarity. Enjoy.

When Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn heard what “Accused” showrunner Howard Gordon wanted to do for what would become the Season 1 finale, he initially rejected it.
“I said, ‘Well, then you only get 14 episodes,'” Gordon told TheWrap.
But after Thorn saw “Billy’s Story” — an emotional saga starring Keith Carradine about a rockstar father’s complicated relationship with his drug-addicted son — the exec changed his tune and apologized. “That’s what’s great about having partners at whatever platform. You have to have people who you trust, who you can be honest with and and push up against — capitulate when you need to, but also say, ‘Hey, I know there’s a good story here. Please let me do it.'”

“An aging rockstar attempts to cement his musical legacy while trying to prevent his troubled son from unraveling” in the season finale of the Fox crime drama anthology Accused. To talk about “Billy’s Story” is Keith Carradine, who plays the titular character in the midst of having to choose between his career and family once and for all. Alongside the May 9 episode, the actor touches on his own career as a musician and the ongoing WGA writers’ strike. What can you tease about Billy’s Story, and what about it attracted you to the role? Well, the primary attraction was it allowed me to do some music again onscreen, which I haven’t had the chance to do in some time. I’ve continued to songwrite and I’ve had songs that have been used in different things. I think the last time I actually wrote a song and...

Actress Brooke Shields will use her upcoming documentary to open up about her amazement over how she “survived” being sexualised from the age of 11. ‘The Blue Lagoon’ actress, 57, who recently revealed she was raped by a man after they had dinner to discuss her film project dreams, tears up as she tells in her two-part documentary ‘Pretty Baby’ how she was “catapulted into the world of adult sexuality” as a child, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
She said in a trailer for the film, due out April 3: “That always just seared me…. I was struggling to find my own voice, I wasn’t told it was important to have agency.”
Shields said the words as those interviewed for her documentary referred to her as “the most photographed woman in the world,” an “iconic American beauty,” “object of desire,” “sexualised child model” and “vulnerable”.

From the moment Brooke Shields was born, she was defined by her looks. "She's the most beautiful child and I'm going to help her with her career," her mother Teri Shields once said, determined to make her young daughter a star (via Emirates Woman). After appearing in an Ivory Soap ad as a baby, Brooke Shields' delicate and striking features catapulted her to fame.
Teri Shields had a paradoxical grip on her daughter, exploiting her as "sexually provocative and exciting while attempting to preserve her innocence" through overprotection (via The Washington Post). This took a psychological toll on Brooke Shields, causing her to question her identity, sexuality, and womanhood for years — worsened when put through the objectifying prism of Hollywood.
