The Last of Us emerged as one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows of 2023. Starring Pedro Pascal in the lead role, the series set a new gold standard for video game adaptations. It also won Pascal his first Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series but he failed to win in the category.

However, one of the most gut-wrenchingly emotional scenes from the show’s sixth episode was improvised by Pascal. During a podcast appearance, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann peeled the cover on the emotional scene and Pascal’s improvisation while proving why he should have won an Emmy for the performance.

Famously known for playing the Roy family patriarch in Succession, Brian Cox walked Vanity Fair through his trajectory of filmography and remarkable career, in 2022. Therein, the actor spoke fondly of his role as Agamemnon in Wolfgang Peterson’s 2004 historical epic Troy, alongside Brad Pitt’s Achilles.
Brian Cox in a still from Troy
Admitting that the role of Agamemnon was the only one that he has ever pursued in his career, Brian Cox mentioned how he lets his career fall into pieces, on its own. Meanwhile, speaking about the film and the stellar cast, Cox recalled Brad Pitt’s grandeur on set. According to Cox, watching Pitt’s performance made him believe that no other actor could ever beat his screen presence.

A Real Pain – written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg – proved to be one of the biggest hits of the Sundance Film Festival and has now been slated for release.
Coming out of the Sundance Film Festival this year, perhaps the most buzz was focused on Jesse Eisenberg's directorial folllow-up to 2022’s When You Finish Saving The World.
His second directorial outing is called A Real Pain and follows cousins who travel to their grandmother’s native Poland to partake in a Holocaust tour. Succession's Kieran Culkin stars alongside Eisenberg in the film which proved to be the first major acquisition of the festival when Searchlight stepped in to acquire the movie for $10m.
While it certainly doesn’t grab as many headlines as the woes faced by other Disney-owned subsidiaries, Searchlight has proved to be one of the House of Mouse’s successes of the past few years, exhibiting excellent...

The BAFTA TV Awards nominations are out for 2024 and, while Netflix is winning headlines after strong showings for The Crown and Black Mirror, there were some snubs and surprises.

Kieran Culkin and Pedro Pascal clearly used the 2024 award season to keep their bromance-turned-playful feud alive.
Now that the season is (finally!) over, The Hollywood Reporter is taking a closer look at the interactions between the pair, who competed for several awards for best male actor in a drama series for their roles in Succession and The Last of Us, respectively. And they took nearly every opportunity they could — between red carpet interviews, acceptance speeches and backstage interviews — to comment on their ongoing lighthearted rivalry.

Seven years ago, Donald Glover won his first two Emmys, Best Comedy Actor and Best Comedy Directing for “Atlanta.” While he missed out on nominations last year for the final season of his FX series — he did receive a writing bid for “Swarm” — Glover is back in the hunt this cycle with “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” Inspired by the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie film of the same name, the spy series is competing in drama, which means Glover could become just the second man and third person to win lead Emmys in comedy and drama.

With the 2024 Oscars in the rearview mirror, it’s time to start looking toward 2025. It’s early, but not too early to start making predictions about what movies might contend for the Oscars next year.
The 97th Academy Awards may wind up dominated by an unusual number of blockbuster sequels to films that won big previously. There are also some period pieces, some comeback vehicles, and some movies that were featured on last year’s list that got held back for this year.
Here are 20 films to know for the 2025 Oscars. Some of them are locks, some of them are long shots, and all of them are worth keeping an eye on throughout 2024 as their Academy Awards chances rise and fall.
“A Real Pain”
One of three films on this list that have screened publicly as of publication time, road dramedy “A Real Pain” was the buzziest title out of Sundance this year.

Pedro Pascal has achieved notable success in recent years, particularly for his acclaimed performances in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. His upcoming debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Reed Richards in the film Fantastic Four, adds another milestone to his growing list of accomplishments. Still, his most famous role right now is certainly as part of The Mandalorian. With that said, he might be replaced as The Mandalorian if rumors turn out to be true.

Pedro Pascal has attracted online attention and is affectionately referred to as the ‘Daddy’ of the Internet. This term stems from his portrayals of loving and caring father figures in various roles. This was also apparent in The Mandalorian.

Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.

Many years later, Alan Ruck might have a bone to pick with someone. Despite recently bringing the character back to life, it seems like Ruck does not recall doing any such incident. The reason why he has seemingly forgotten reprising his character is definitely worth knowing!

If this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards pointed to anything in terms of next month's Oscars, it's that Oppenheimer has, on the acting front at least, mostly cemented its path once more towards some shiny gold statuettes. Saturday night saw the film take Outstanding Performance By A Cast In Motion Picture, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for Cillian Murphy and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for Robert Downey Jr.
Following a year in which actors walked the picket line for a better contract with studios, there was even more impetus to celebrate, the show switching from its former Stateside cable home to Netflix's live offerings, where there were no commercials and a more liberal swearing policy. Billie Eilish signed "superfan" Melissa McCarthy's head. The casts of Breaking Bad, Modern Family and leads from The Devil Wears Prada and...

The 2024 SAG Awards allegedly only ran 10 minutes over its two-hour time slot on Saturday, but it felt a whole lot longer.
Unlike most awards shows, the SAG Awards and other guild ceremonies award winners only in their respective disciplines, but that didn’t make the telecast more efficient or memorable in any way. While the room full of nominees and winners were endlessly thankful to their union and outside solidarity during the strikes, the telecast failed to sufficiently honor the talent on display in a worthy manner — that, too, on the show’s 30th anniversary.
And it was no ordinary SAG Awards year for another obvious reason: The telecast aired live on Netflix for the first time ever (including a pre-show hosted by Tan France and Elaine Welteroth). Netflix is one of the only streamers that doesn’t dabble in live TV, so teaming up with the SAG Awards was both surprising and smart.

The 30th Screen Actors Guild Awards went largely according to script Saturday night on Netflix, but with just enough surprises to keep things interesting. (See the SAG winners list.) Here are five key takeaways from this year’s ceremony.
1. Subtle performances dominate film categories.
While we’ve seen quieter portrayals have greater success at the Oscars in recent years, the guild has generally still gone with flashier performances. This year, Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in “The Holdovers” managed to land SAG trophies for their relatively subdued acting — especially in comparison to some of their show-stopping rivals. Perhaps guild members are following the lead of the academy and realizing that less is sometimes more when it comes to fine dramatics.

Oscar prognosticators may have been keeping a close eye on the 2024 SAG Awards to see what this year’s film wins could mean for the 2024 Academy Awards, but it was in the TV categories where arguably the biggest surprises occurred.
After winning multiple trophies at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Emmys last month for its third and final season, Succession, which led the SAG Awards TV nods with five, seemed like the likely big winner heading into Saturday’s show. But instead the HBO drama only took home one award, albeit for the top TV prize of best drama ensemble. But after Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook won best actor and actress in a drama series at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and Emmys, within the span of 10 days in January, it was surprising that both lost in their respective SAG Awards categories.

Last weekend, Pedro Pascal won the fan vote to take the Male TV Star of the Year trophy at the People’s Choice Awards for his role as Joel in HBO’s The Last Of Us. Six days later, he won the vote of his peers to land the SAG Award for Male Actor In a Drama Series, his first major industry recognition.
Having lost out to Succession’s Kieran Culkin at previous awards shows this season, Pascal looked stunned when his name was called.
“This is wrong for a number of reasons,” he said onstage. “I am a little drunk. I thought I could get drunk.” (You can watch his speech above.)
Later in the press room, Pascal revealed he drank tequila and confirmed that he was “genuinely surprised” by the win, which made him tear up with his publicists backstage.

Ok, so maybe it was a good idea for Lily Gladstone to go lead after all.
The elegant “Killers of the Flower Moon” star went from possibly-forgotten-awards-season-afterthought to Oscar frontrunner in the space of a few moments at tonight’s 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, and what was widely predicted to be another jewel in Emma Stone’s march to the Academy Awards crown for “Poor Things” hit not just a roadblock but a brick wall – demonstrating just how quickly narratives can be rewritten and fortunes can change.
The upset win brought a burst of excitement to an awards show that perhaps featured more pizzazz than expected going in. And some of that came, somewhat shockingly, on the television side, even as “The Bear” and “Beef” marched to ho-hum predicted victories. Jeremy Allen White continued his unblemished awards record (it was his second SAG trophy in as many years...
