- A self-taught musician, he abandoned law studies in 1971, moved to Paris and attended musical composition courses given by Henri Dutilleux at the Ecole Normale De Musique.
- Created a research and broadcast centre for folk music, called Pleiade.
- 1973: Began a career as composer-orchestrator for singers such as Charles Aznavour, Johnny Hallyday, Mireille Mathieu and Sylvie Vartan.
- Member of the 'Official Competition' jury at the 70th Cannes International Film Festival in 2017.
