The Lion King – Featuring the voices of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, Disney’s “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. © 2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved. When Disney made the original animated version of The Lion King, the studio invested heavily in the film’s music, enlisting Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice for the film’s original songs and Hans Zimmer for its score. Of course, it was an investment that paid off handsomely — the soundtrack album has sold more than 7 million copies, and all four of The Lion King’s Oscar nominations were for the film’s music. When the studio decided to remake the film in 2019, director Jon Favreau was faced with a lot of choices about how he wanted to make his film different than the original. At the time of the film’s release, Favreau told us he realized that,...

Francis Ford Coppola’s long-gestating and much-discussed sci-fi epic Megalopolis had its world premiere on Thursday night at the Cannes Film Festival, and was greeted with a 10-minute standing ovation inside the Grand Lumiere Theatre, as he gave a hug to each of his his principal stars — among them Nathalie Emmanuel, Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza and Giancarlo Esposito — and threw his hat into the cheering crowd.
Coppola, who lost his wife Eleanor last month, eventually interrupted the applause to take a microphone and introduce the members of his family who were with him, including his son, Roman Coppola, and sister, Talia Shire, both of whom worked on the film. He then said of his other collaborators on the film: “They were all my family. And in fact, as [Driver’s character] Cesar says [in the film], ‘We are all one family.'”

In the opening minutes of Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two," Harkonnen hunters are searching for native Fremen warriors on the surface of Arrakis during an eclipse. The hunters quickly realize the Fremen have called a sandworm to devour them, so they engage their anti-gravity jet packs and soar off the dunes up onto a huge rock formation to avoid being eaten. It's a simple-enough looking action -- we've seen jet packs on screen plenty of times before -- but something about the tangibility of the effect combined with Hans Zimmer's score, the desert location, and the stunning orange lighting that looks distinct from any other part of the film caused me to whisper "wow" in my theater seat. By the time the Harkonnens realize it's a trap and they're being picked off one by one, it's too late.

NBC has unveiled its 2024 fall schedule, which highlights franchise dramas, two nights of laughs, unscripted hits, live specials, and holiday programming. All new series will stream the next day on Peacock along with the rest of NBC’s entertainment lineup.
Three new series are set to premiere in the fall, including the drama Brilliant Minds, starring Zachary Quinto and inspired by the true story of a revolutionary, larger-than-life neurologist, Oliver Wolf, and his team of interns as they explore the last great frontier — the human mind — while also grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
Also coming is St. Denis Medical, which stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, and David Alan Grier and is from co-creators Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin. It brings the laughs with a mockumentary about an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital where dedicated doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity.

Denis Villeneuve successfully adapted the first Dune novel with the two Dune films. The evolution of Paul Atreides into a messianic figure and the rivalry between House Harkonnen and Atreides were chronicled in the two films. Villeneuve managed to bring a lot of authenticity and grandeur to the franchise making it an unforgettable experience.

One of the most interesting aspects in both films was the opening quotes that were delivered by a haunting voice speaking in an unknown language. In a recent interview, the director revealed that those lines were uttered by an anonymous Sardaukar, and he explained why a member of the imperial army was given such meaningful lines at the beginning of each film.

Frank Herbert's "Dune" was long thought to be an unadaptable book. Despite its huge influence on the sci-fi genre, the novel's massive scope, many characters, use of internal dialogue, and rather complex web of political machinations and themes made it hard to distill into a single feature film — let alone one with four-quadrant appeal.
Still, there have been many attempts at making a "Dune" movie — some good, some even great, and some that never made it to the screen. But the absolute best adaptation has been Denis Villeneuve's two-part "Dune" film. Villeneuve makes a lot of changes, but for the most part, they are in service of distilling the epic novel's core message and focusing on its cautionary tale about messianic figures.
One of the changes is that the opening quotes of both movies -- "Dreams are messages from the deep" ("Dune)" and "Power over spice is power...

The Tattooist of Auschwitz has a distinctive way of way of marking death. Each time someone passes, the drama pauses on a moving portrait of their face in life, against the grim toll of a bell. Sometimes, it’s how we learn a character we’ve been following for several episodes has been killed. At others, it’s the only good look we get at people whose names we never even learn before they’re slaughtered.

A prequel story to 2019’s Disney live-action movie, The Lion King, is upon us. The movie tells us the story of Mufasa, Simba’s father, and his journey to become the king of the jungle. Mufasa: The Lion King will be helmed by director Barry Jenkins of Moonlight fame, unlike Jon Favreau, who directed the 2019 feature, with Donald Glover and Beyoncé returning to voice Simba and Nala, respectively.

It’s time to head back to the Pride Lands in Barry Jenkins’ Lion King prequel. Watch the first Mufasa: The Lion King trailer below.
The Lion King, released in 2019, proved to be a controversial one. While early reactions praised the film’s visual effects, others found fault in its all-cgi creatures. Really, it was a strange move from Disney to call it a live-action version of such a beloved classic when it was all created on a computer screen.
Regardless, the film has spawned a prequel, and Moonlight director Barry Jenkins signed on to direct what we now know is called Mufasa.
Take a look at the Mufasa: The Lion King trailer below.
It certainly looks like it’s going to be more of the same, so if you weren’t a fan of 2019’s The Lion King, something tells us this might be a miss for you too.

It's time for another Zack Snyder slow-motion extravaganza! Snyder's big sci-fi sequel "Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver" is now on Netflix, and the reactions ... well, they ain't great, folks. The first film, subtitled "A Child of Fire," didn't fare much better — it's currently sitting at 21% on Rotten Tomatoes. But what about Part Two? Sadly, it seems to be doing even worse than the original flick. As of this writing, "Rebel Moon – Part Two" has a terrible 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. And if you're thinking, "Well, that's just the critics! What are regular people saying about the movie?", you should also know that the film's audience score is a less-than-great 52%. In short, people don't seem to like what Snyder is offering here. Snyder has always had a tenuous relationship with critics, but this seems to be one of his worst-reviewed films to date. Even his cartoon owl movie has...

Amid the ongoing scene of what seems to be a fancy dress competition in Call of Duty games, developers have actually delivered something that the fans can appreciate. In fact, they are appreciating it. A recent entry of a mythic skin in CoDm has had fans bouncing off the walls. And it would be fair to say that it certainly is a visual treat.
CoD publisher Activision is making efforts to take over the mobile gaming arena. The mobile version of the popular military shooter is already a success and it’s getting better. Recently, the company released the mobile version of its battle royale title, Warzone Mobile, but the game has yet to walk the successful path that CoDm is on.
‘This’ Call of Duty Isn’t Just a Visual Treat It’s Music To The Ears Too
Upon watching closely, the fans will realize it’s a gun on their screen.

Seeing Johnny Depp reprise his iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow once again for the Pirates of the Caribbean saga is a long-awaited dream of fans that just might never come true. This stands even truer after the recent turn of events, with reports claiming that the sixth film in this saga will be led by a female protagonist instead of the iconic cunning Sparrow.

But this wish not holding the chance to come true doesn’t necessarily mean fans can’t continue to dream about it. If anything, they can just build their own stories of how they want to see the sixth film — something that they have been doing lately, considering the viral fanmade trailer of Potc 6, where Depp seemingly joins hands with Emma Stone in an ironic turn of events.

Over the past few months, Netflix has been busy treating its audience to new big-budget projects, from the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen to the much-hyped 3 Body Problem and Ripley with Andrew Scott. But as high-profile as Netflix's premieres are, they seem to pale in comparison to what competing streaming services are offering.

What do you call world-building when it’s built entirely out of worlds that have already been built? I wouldn’t call it cinema; it might be closer to Lego with attitude. Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver,” like his “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” is a sci-fi action fantasy so familiar and generic, so borrowed from and inspired by other things — it’s the 1977 “Star Wars” meets “Seven Samurai” meets “The Lord of the Guardians of the Rings of the Galaxy” — that it’s already the theme-park version of itself. Yet compared to most of the media, I was kind to “Rebel Moon — Part One.” Released just four months ago, it was an oversize banquet of fanboy fast food, not a film to take seriously, but I couldn’t deny that I found it highly watchable, unlike the countless critics who seem to...

Because of the rise in antisemitism around the world today, I wanted to sing ‘Love Will Survive’ in the context of this series, as a way of remembering the six-million souls who were lost less than 80 years ago. Barbra Streisand has released her first song in six years, titled “Love Will Survive” — and it’s her first work for an onscreen project in 12 years, since she herself last appeared in a movie, 2012’s “The Guilt Trip.”
“Love Will Survive,” composed by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve, will be Streisand’s end title anthem for the credits of Peacock and Sky limited series “The Tattooist of Auschwitz,” based on the WWII-set novel of the same name. Melanie Lynskey portrays real-life author Heather Morris, who interviewed Holocaust survivor Lali Sokolov (Harvey Keitel) about meeting his future wife Gina (Anna Próchniak) in a concentration camp. The novel is inspired by the real-life love story of Lali and Gita Sokolov, who met while prisoners in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during the Holocaust. He had been ordered to tattoo serial numbers on prisoners’ arms.

The severity of James Gunn’s formative DC Universe is paramount, to say the least. The sense of purpose that has been guiding the DC Studios CEO since November 2022 has been solely focused on using Superman as the foundation for the new and improved universe. Understandably, James Gunn’s Dcu needs to find a fixture soon on which the entire universe’s model can be based, but Superman is the only IP that has to convince the audience of the rate of Dcu’s success.

Fans of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator franchise must be rejoicing after the first footage from the much-anticipated sequel to the 2000 blockbuster was screened for CinemaCon goers last Thursday. An introduction from the director all the way from London was shown at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Russell Crowe in Gladiator (2000)
With Paul Mescal in the lead, the movie promises to be “possibly more extraordinary than the first” as the veteran filmmaker pledges the second installment is worth the twenty-four years of waiting.
Gladiator 2’s First Footage Introduces Paul Mescal On The Lead
The footage exhibited the first look at Paul Mescal as Lucius, the nephew of Commodus and the son of Lucilla. The figure appeared astoundingly fit and fighting inside the arena against a man carried by a rhino and a herd of baboons. The character says:
“I remember that day. I never forgot it. That a slave could take revenge against an emperor.

With Paul Mescal in the lead, the movie promises to be “possibly more extraordinary than the first” as the veteran filmmaker pledges the second installment is worth the twenty-four years of waiting.

You’ll be able to own Dune: Part Two on a shiny disc in just a few weeks’ time, as its DVD, 4K Uhd and Blu-ray release is set for the 27th May.
If you’ve been wondering when you’ll be able to own a physical copy of Dune: Part Two on disc, then wonder no longer. Warner Bros has announced that Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi extravaganza is out on DVD and Blu-ray from the 27th May. But you probably knew that from the headline.
The film’s digital release was on the 15th April, which is nice if you like downloading things – it saves shelf space and all that – but for those of us who like discs and boxes and that pleasant sound when a DVD or Blu-ray player drawer closes, it’ll be well worth waiting for a few more weeks.

Walt Disney Pictures brought the Pride Lands to Sin City. The studio unveiled footage of “Mufasa: The Lion King” at their CinemaCon panel this Monday, showcasing Barry Jenkins’ prequel of the 2019 “Lion King” remake.
Jenkins accompanied the film to Las Vegas at CinemaCon, and he explained to the crowd, “what the director of ‘Moonlight’ is doing here to tell me about an 8-quadrant legacy film.” Well, he said making it was “one of the best decisions I ever made in my life.”
A photorealistic CGI film in the vein of the 2019 film, “Mufasa: The Lion King” will focus on the ascension of Mufasa (voiced in the prequel by “The Underground Railroad” star Aaron Pierre) to the ruler of the Pride Lands. Kelvin Harrison Jr. will also star as Scar, along with Seth Rogan, Billy Eichner, and John Kani all reprising their roles from the 2019 “Lion King” as Pumbaa, Timon, and Raifiki,...

It didn’t happen at Universal’s presentation, but we finally got a Christopher Nolan announcement at CinemaCon 2024.
On Thursday morning, Paramount Pictures’ President of Domestic Distribution Chris Aronson revealed that Nolan’s “Interstellar” will return to theaters on September 27, 2024 in both 70mm and IMAX formats. The re-release is a celebration of the film’s 10-year anniversary. It is probably also — at least somewhat — a continued celebration of Nolan’s Best Picture-winner “Oppenheimer.”
Of course, the “Oppenheimer” victory isn’t for Paramount to tout, and its studio Universal took a brief victory lap (or two) during its own Wednesday afternoon Colosseum presentation. The on-stage champagne-popping split time with “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and included a prerecorded message from Nolan. (He did not touch on “Mario.”)
In the package played for a packed house of (mostly) exhibitors, Nolan said he had been “very nervous” about showing “Oppenheimer” footage to the same CinemaCon audience last year.
