Fumi Nikaido could be one of several “Shōgun” stars who go on to earn Emmy nominations for their career-best work in the FX series.

Meanwhile, a British sailor (Cosmo Jarvis) begins a brand new life after becoming shipwrecked in Japan and entering the service of Hiroyuki Sanada‘s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
Jarvis and Sanada are both competing for lead actor nominations and so, too, is Anna Sawai. John Mayer has legendary status among watch lovers. A major collector for years — renowned not only for his connoisseurship of luxury timepieces but also his knowledge of what makes some of the most complicated examples tick — he’s now joined the ranks of the few celebrities (LeBron James, Travis Scott) who have designed a watch in collaboration with Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition
The new Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition is a grail-worthy watch specimen. In addition to its perpetual calendar complication — one of the most technically precise functions to pull off, in that it can accurately track and show the correct date of the month, no matter the length of the month or whether it’s a leap year — the new timepiece features a gorgeous deep-blue dial meant to evoke a starry, crystalline sky. The watch face also boasts a moon phase with glittery aventurine.

Sean Murray now holds the distinction of being the longest-running NCIS cast member. However, despite being the stepson of the show’s creator, Donald Bellisario, he still does not feel very secure in his job.
That seems so unlikely as on Monday, CBS will be celebrating the 1,000 episode of the NCISVerse. Yet, he remains uncertain.
Why doesn’t the actor who portrays geeky Agent Tim McGee “feel safe” in his long-time role?

Denis Villeneuve is inevitably one of the biggest jewels in Hollywood’s crown of filmmakers. The magnificent brain behind a ton of absolute gems that have ever been created in the entertainment industry, he has given his fans everything they could ever ask for, including his Dune live-action adaptations too. But there is one movie that is somehow better than all the other masterpieces.

This movie is none other than his 2013 worldwide acclaimed crime-thriller, Prisoners. However, as profoundly great as this piece of work of his was, Villeneuve was actually terrified of making it at first, and it was all because of his personal fear. But then, the Dune 2 filmmaker decided to follow his “inspiration,” and eventually gave a film that is now considered one of his best works of all time.

Hugh Jackman has had an illustrious career in Hollywood. From playing the adamantium-clawed superhero Wolverine to the great American showman P.T. Barnum, the star has repeatedly proven his acting mettle. Moreover, The Greatest Showman actor’s co-stars often sing his praises.
However, there was a time when the Aussie hunk left one of his co-stars quivering in fear when he went off-script and did something extreme. While filming 2013’s Prisoners, Jackman pulled off an ad-lib that left his co-actor Paul Dano completely shaken.

Law & Order: Svu shaped Mariska Hargitay’s life in many ways, even introducing the actor to her husband. She and Peter Hermann have enjoyed a long marriage and have since started a family. But she quipped there was another actor she was willing to break her vows for. And Hermann completely understood.

Nearly a decade before Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were shooting machine guns at each other in their own on-screen home, Scott Bakula and Maria Bello were beating each other up in the pilot episode of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." The 1996 CBS show started off with the soon-to-be Mr. Smith stumbling across the soon-to-be Mrs. Smith on a secret mission. After a lot of fighting and mayhem, they team up by the end of the pilot and the premise of the show is established: From this point on, the two spies will work together, pretending to be a married couple who call themselves the Smiths.
It's a premise that sounds awfully familiar to fans of the '05 movie, and even more familiar to viewers of the brand new Amazon series of the same name. Just as Donald Glover and Maya Erskine's characters slowly develop feelings for each other over...

Officially, Prime Video’s spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name. Unofficially, however, its origins are a bit murkier. Though this 2024 streaming iteration of Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares its basic premise with the previous Brad Pitt and Angelina-starring version (a married couple who also happen to be spies), the series diverges from it in some major ways as well.
In an interview with The Today Show, Glover (who also co-created the 2024 series) even admitted to not having seen the 2005 Doug Liman-directed film when he decided to embark upon the project. Co-creator Francesca Sloane wrote in an open letter to fans that “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly original.”

Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” on Amazon Prime. Courtesy of Amazon Prime.
Donald Glover is a multi-talented young man. Proof lies in his boatload of awards and nominations for acting, writing, directing, producing and in several aspects of the music biz. Further proof lies in his having enough clout to attract a slew of stars for mostly brief appearances in this eight-episode action comedy. Alas, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is not his best work as co-writer or co-star.
Glover plays a guy recruited by an unspecified secret agency to pose as half of a normal, bland couple while remaining perpetually on call for any kind of covert op, from protection to swiping documents to whacking designated baddies. The “wife” they picked for him (Maya Erskine) shares all the assignments while helping to maintain their cover. As is par for such courses, they don’t like each other until they do.

Actress Scarlett Johansson finally escaped our long-running photo gallery of the greatest living actresses to never receive an Oscar nomination. And she did it in grand style by picking up two for her 2019 films “Marriage Story” and “Jojo Rabbit.” Just recently, Kirsten Dunst had been in our gallery for years and then earned her first Academy Award bid for “The Power of the Dog.” Emily Blunt was finally nominated for “Oppenheimer” years after winning her first SAG Award for “A Quiet Place.”
In 2014, “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston looked like a lock to receive her first Academy Award nomination for “Cake,” following citations at the Golden Globes, SAG, and Broadcast Film Critics. Yet on Oscar morning, the Emmy-winner was left out. Aniston’s “Friends” costar and fellow Emmy-victor Lisa Kudrow found herself in a similar situation when she received an Independent Spirit Awards nomination for “The Opposite of Sex” yet came up short at the Oscars.

In all of Stephen King’s massive catalog, few works are as bleak as his 2010 novella collection Full Dark, No Stars. Rather than supernatural entities, these four dark tales feature human monsters and deal with the horrors that live inside the human heart. Two novellas serve as mirror images of each other, exploring the female response to predatory men. “Big Driver” follows cozy mystery writer Tess Thorne on a mission of revenge against the stranger who raped her and left her for dead. “A Good Marriage” centers Darcy Anderson, a happily married woman faced with a horrifying choice when she discovers her husband’s secret life.
Both novellas were faithfully adapted into feature films in the year 2014 – for better or worse. Premiering on Lifetime, Big Driver tackles King’s rape-revenge story with Maria Bello staring as the vigilante writer and Olympia Dukakis as her literary detective. Ann Dowd and Joan Jett...

Netflix’s massive eight total Emmy wins for limited series Beef should provide enough momentum for a second season greenlight despite no official decision yet for what was a close-ended Season 1.
Still, creator Lee Sung Jin is totally open to one.
“I feel like there are so many paths,” the writer-director-produicer said backstage at the Emmys. “It could stay limited — it was a very close-ended story for sure. But if Netflix wanted to continue, it could also be anthology. It could be many things. It’s up to the great algorithm. We’re all waiting to hear.”

Lee inked a multi-year film and TV deal with Netflix back in November.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.

It’s official: Better Call Saul hasn’t won a single Emmy.
The acclaimed Breaking Bad spinoff scored 53 Emmy nominations over its six-season run but failed to win a single award. The final season was nominated for seven awards at the 2023 Emmys, including the top prizes of best actor in a drama series and best drama series.
During its AMC run, Breaking Bad won 16 Emmys, including two awards for best drama series.
But Saul, which also aired on AMC, couldn’t compete with its predecessor’s Emmy success.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Monday’s Emmys, Better Call Saul actress Rhea Seehorn, nominated for supporting actress in a drama series, indicated she was happy with the series even if it went into history without an Emmy win.

Netflix’s “Beef” won big at the much-delayed 2023 Emmys with eight awards across all categries, but the future of the limited series is still up in the air.

We’re all waiting to hear.”
In November, it was announced that Lee, who also goes by Sonny Lee, signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix, which covers both potential film and television projects.
On the red carpet before the Emmys ceremony, “Beef” star Steven Yeun told Variety‘s Marc Malkin he has “no clue” about a second season and said, “I defer to Sonny on all fronts.

Beef took home the trophy for best limited series at the 2023 Emmy Awards. The win came on top of five other accolades for the show the same evening, including acting awards for both stars.
“A lot of the suicidal ideation in this show was based on stuff that I and some of the folks up here have struggled with over the years,” creator Lee Sung Jin said. “I’m really grateful and humbled by everyone who watched the show and reached out about their own personal struggles. It’s very life affirming.”
Beef follows protagonists Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) and Amy Lau (Ali Wong) navigating a road-rage incident that cascades into a drawn-out feud between them. The Hollywood Reporter critic Angie Han celebrated the show as “a feast of sharp comedy” with “wild thrills and disarming empathy.”

The Critics Choice Awards were concluded recently, and ‘Oppenheimer’ was the big winner at the ceremony.
It took home eight trophies including best picture, director (Christopher Nolan) and supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.). ‘Barbie’ followed with six wins, including best comedy and best song, reports Variety.
The ceremony shook up the awards race, handing best actress to Emma Stone (‘Poor Things’) and best actor to Paul Giamatti (‘The Holdovers’).
As per Variety, there were fewer surprises on the television side, as ‘The Bear’, ‘Succession’ and ‘Beef’ won big, each taking multiple acting awards and winning best comedy series, drama series and limited series, respectively.
‘The Bear’ and ‘Beef’ each took home four awards, and ‘Succession’ landed three. Chelsea Handler hosted the Sunday night ceremony, broadcast live on the CW and held at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar. Harrison Ford accepted the career achievement award, and America Ferrera was honoured with the SeeHer Award.

After a rather bumpy start, the winter awards season returned to smoother, more pleasurable sailing at the 29th Critics Choice Awards. Veteran host Chelsea Handler’s opening monologue was sharp and celebratory rather than condescending and snide. While not every single joke packed a comedic wallop, she clearly had the audience on her side and set the tone for an upbeat telecast. The pro didn’t overstay her welcome, either, occasionally returning after a commercial break with sharp, brief introductory quips.

Most powerfully, after she observed that 2023 was a bona fide year of women, Handler appropriately used her post to welcome to the spotlight Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, who had won for Best Comedy Film for “Barbie” off-air and therefore didn’t get the chance to deliver a proper acceptance speech. The 29th annual Critics Choice Awards took place in Santa Monica on Sunday night, and the big winners of the night were Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Barbie, Succession, Beef and The Bear.
Chelsea Handler, who hosted for the second year in a row, began her opening monologue by calling herself “microdose Barbie,” and made a dig at studio executives who were “forced to vacation” for six months due to the writers and actors strikes. She also honored the huge year we just had for women.
“Women were victorious in all venues,” Handler said. “Barbie at the box office, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé with their tours, Gwyneth Paltrow and her ski trial. Women show up and dominate our culture. You could almost say it was the year of women…. Women could say that. Bill Maher would say, ‘Is she still talking?'”
She then panned over to Oprah Winfrey, who was there...

Mark Ruffalo tells me he has, until now, kinda shied away from playing the villain of the piece. He licks his lips as he declares that it’s “so much fun to finally get to play the bad guy.”
He refers, of course, to his Duncan Wedderburn, the calculating cad of the first water he plays with zest in Yorgos Lanthimos’ delicious movie Poor Things.
The schemer Wedderburn sets his sights on Emma Stone’s Bella Baxter, but it is she who outwits him.
“The bad ones are the best and I was scared of it,” he tells me at Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party, set on a mammoth, chilly terrace at The Maybourne Beverly Hills.
As I toyed with Ruffalo’s thesis in my head, I was unable to conjure any roles he’s played that were, hitherto, downright dastardly. His Bruce Banner stroke the Hulk in the Marvel movies is essentially decent,...

Adam Sandler has taken to social media to express his condolences following the loss of Alec Musser.
Musser appeared in the 2010 film Grown Ups, which Sandler co-wrote with Fred Wold and produced alongside Jack Giarraputo.
“I loved this guy. Cannot believe he is gone. Such a wonderful, funny good man. Thinking of him and his family and sending all my love. A true great sweetheart of a person,” Sandler wrote on Instagram with a still of Musser in the film.
Musser played the role credited as Water Park Stud in one of the memorable scenes from the film, which included Salma Hayek, Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello and Joyce Van Patten. As the guys take the kids to a water slide, the ladies stay back to enjoy some downtime. They soon see a buff man looking their way and starts walking towards them.
