Steven Spielberg is responsible for creating some of the most unforgettable films of all time. From Schindler’s List to Jurassic Park, the filmmaker has time and again proven that no one has a mind quite like him. With his 1998 film Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg gave the film industry one of the greatest films ever made.
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998)
However, there was a time when the film was met with a roadblock which could have ended with the cast of Saving Private Ryan walking out on Steven Spielberg. In order to make the film feel as realistic as possible, the filmmaker made the actors go through an extensive boot camp led by a Marine Corps veteran. Exhausted by the ordeals of Captain Dale Dye’s tasks, the cast of Saving Private Ryan almost quit their jobs before lead actor Tom Hanks changed their minds.

Remember how Liam Neeson, at one point in his career, decided he would play only action heroes and how most of his recent characters were basically Bryan Mills from Taken in a different context? Well, it seems that another acting legend has chosen the same path, as Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is once again going to play an exorcist in the upcoming movie The Exorcism, which is set to be released on June 7, 2024. Now, the first official trailer for the movie has been released and we are going to show it to you below.
Now, our introduction was – in case you do not know – like this because Russel Crowe starred as an exorcist in the 2023 movie The Pope’s Exorcist, which – believe it or not – has absolutely no connection to The Exorcism. It seems that Crowe liked the previous role so he decided to reprise it but in a completely unrelated movie.

The Equalizer has drawn very good ratings for CBS. Still, it's also co-produced by an outside studio (Universal Television), which is a negative in the economics of network television these days. A couple of years ago, the Magnum Pi reboot was cancelled by CBS when the companies couldn't come to a financial agreement that worked for both sides. Will The Equalizer be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

Before I ever saw William Friedkin's classic horror film "The Exorcist," my mother gleefully shared with me all of the horrific urban legends and unexplained mysteries that surrounded the film's production. She believed, as do countless others, that "The Exorcist" was one of many cursed films. The face of a possessed Regan MacNeil was terrifying, to be sure, but movie magic meant to scare me couldn't hold a candle to the inexplicable dread that had me convinced filmmakers daring to tell this story made them a target for actual evil. While I'm old enough now to know better than to believe in cursed films, it's still a fascinating rabbit hole to fall into. Hell, the horror movie streaming app Shudder even has a two-season documentary series called, you guessed it, "Cursed Films" discussing cinema's most controversial and conspiracy-surrounded film sets. Now, a new narrative horror film is dabbling in the world of cursed films,...

It may not have been his plan, but Russell Crowe is capitalizing on the return of the iconic “The Exorcist” franchise with separate standalone religious horror films “The Exorcism,” out June 7, and 2023’s “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
Crowe leads Joshua John Miller’s “The Exorcism” as an actor facing demons — maybe literal ones. Consider it a meta twist: The film centers on Anthony Miller (Crowe), a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film. His estranged daughter, Lee (Ryan Simpkins), wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.
The buzzy cast includes Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, David Hyde Pierce, Josh Warren, Adrian Pasdar, and Tracey Bonner.
Director Miller co-wrote the script with M.A. Fortin. “The Exorcism” marks Miller and Fortin’s second feature, after the 2015 horror comedy “The Final Girls.” They also co-created the...

"Can he be saved?" Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a horror thriller film titled The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe - though it's not related to his other exorcism film The Pope's Exorcist from last year. This was originally titled The Georgetown Project, but they gave it this new title that will confuse people into thinking it's related to the classic The Exorcist. Though it sort of is. This film is made by Joshua John Miller, son of actor Jason Miller, who played the doomed Father Karras in the original Exorcist film. It's inspired by his experiences growing up knowing his dad played that role. A troubled actor begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he's slipping back into his past addictions or if there's something more sinister at play. Also starring Ryan Simpkins, Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adam Goldberg, Samantha Mathis, & David Hyde Pierce.

Robyn McCall will continue righting wrongs for another season.
CBS has ordered a fifth season of The Equalizer, its drama series starring Queen Latifah (who also executive produces) as McCall, a former CIA operative turned freelance problem solver for people who have nowhere else to turn. The show is a reimagining of the 1985-89 series of the same name and not connected to the Denzel Washington-led film franchise that’s also inspired by the original series.
With the renewal, The Equalizer will pass the original series in the number of seasons it has aired (though not yet in episode count — the 1980s series ran for 88 episodes, and the current show will end this season with 56).
With the pickup of The Equalizer, CBS has only one scripted series — NCIS: Hawai’i — awaiting word on its future. The network plans to announce its 2023-24 schedule on May 2.

CBS recently announced it was canceling both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas,” while shows like “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “Blue Bloods” and “Young Sheldon” are coming to an end.
Per CBS, “The Equalizer” is currently averaging over 10 million viewers per episode in Live+35 multiplatform viewing. The show is based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name.

CBS has picked up a fifth season of drama The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, for 2024-25.
As Deadline reported last week, the renewal was fully expected, with the delay related to lead studio Universal Television negotiating a deal with Queen Latifah. It recently closed, paving the way to a renewal.
So far, The Equalizer‘s seasons had been capped at 18 episodes, which is something top talent often request when signing on for a broadcast drama series. There was an effort in the Queen Latifah negotiation to increase the number to 20 or more but I hear Season 5 will again consist of 18 episodes.
After Elsbeth renewed and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas canceled last week, NCIS: Hawai’i remains the only CBS scripted series in limbo.

As Deadline reported last week, Hawai’i’s future is said to be the subject of tough business conversations, with a partial Season 4 of 13 or fewer episodes still a possibility. It could be a final chapter for the show, the first installment in the NCIS franchise with a female lead.
The Equalizer has been a strong performer for CBS, currently ranking as the #8 most watched among all non-sports broadcast programs, averaging 7.89M linear viewers (in Nielsen most current data) and over 10 million viewers in Live+35 multi-platform viewership. It also is the #1 entertainment program among African Americans.

“The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The series is stacked with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”
Co-produced by CBS Studios, The Equalizer is one of four drama series Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group, makes for CBS, along with the three FBIs, all of which were also recently renewed, the flagship for three seasons.
A reimagining of the classic series, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.
Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes also star. Andrew Marlowe, Terri Edda Miller, co-showrunners Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Richard Lindheim (co-creator of the original series), Shakim Compere, Joseph C. Wilson and Loretha Jones are executive producers. The Equalizer airs on CBS and is available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.

Vertical has acquired North American rights to the horror film “The Exorcism,” starring Oscar winner Russell Crowe. It will be released this summer.
If this sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because Crowe also starred in an exorcism movie last year, the underrated “The Pope’s Exorcist.”
The new film follows Anthony Miller (Crowe), “a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film.” His estranged daughter (Ryan Simpkins) then starts to wonder if he’s slipped back into his addict past or if there’s something more supernatural at work.
“The Exorcism” was directed and co-written (with M.A. Fortin) by Joshua John Miller, who started his career as an actor (one of his first roles was as the little vampire kid in Kathryn Bigelow’s classic “Near Dark”). His father Jason Miller portrayed Father Damien Karras in “The Exorcist,” while his mother Susan Bernard appeared in “Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!...

While we anxiously await news of The Pope’s Exorcist 2, Russell Crowe will deal with some more demons in The Exorcism.
Update, 23 April: On the official Film Distributor’s Association release calendar, The Georgetown Project is listed for release on 7 June, courtesy of Vertigo Releasing. The calendar hasn’t been updated after yesterday’s news, but it seems that we may be getting The Exorcism right on time in the UK too. We’ll keep you updated on that.
We here at Film Stories thoroughly enjoyed The Pope’s Exorcist. Starring Russell Crowe as a world-weary demon evictor taking on the most challenging case of his career, we thought the film was a hoot and have been holding out hope that Sony Pictures would announce a sequel.

Russell Crowe recently played real-life exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth in the supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist, which could turn out to be a franchise starter… but before Crowe made that movie, he made a different supernatural thriller that deals with exorcism. Four and a half years have gone by since it was announced that Crowe had signed on to star in a film that was then known as The Georgetown Project, with Joshua John Miller directing. Now retitled The Exorcism, that film has been acquired by Vertical for a North American theatrical release that’s scheduled for June 7th. The streaming rights are in the hands of Shudder.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Equalizer Season 4 premiere “Truth for a Truth.”] The Equalizer left off at the end of last season with Robyn (Queen Latifah) stuck watching as her team—Mel (Liza Lapira), Harry (Adam Goldberg), and Dante (Tory Kittles)—were tied up and trapped in a room engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the Season 4 premiere doesn’t waste time revealing who survives. Robyn had been shocked to discover that Michelle (Ilfenesh Hadera), someone from her past she thought was dead, was alive and out for revenge. But as soon as Robyn was left alone with one of Michelle’s men, she easily knocked him out, found the room where her friends were kept, used a grenade to blow open the door, and got all of them out safely. We may not be able to say the same for Fisk (Donal Logue) and the others from the CIA transporting Michelle at the end of the episode after ...

"Say Anything" marked America's transition into the 1990s by sealing off the heyday of feel-good high-school rom-coms and goth rock in the '80s. It was a major and much-needed send-off that is probably still an all-time favorite among many a Gen-x-er today.
The coming-of-age hit from 20th Century Fox featured breakout stars like John Cusack and Ione Skye. Even the supporting roles were played by soon-to-be major players like Pamela Adlon or the children of mega-famous stars like Jason Gould.
But not every actor featured in the 1989 romance movie survived into 2024. Unfortunately, John Mahoney, who played Diane's hypercritical (and hypocritical) father, James Court, passed away back in 2018. The late actor was the oldest major cast member by quite a few years and was in his late 70s when he passed. Before his death, Mahoney had an incredible career in film and television — his supporting role as Martin Crane in...

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit USA Network’s “Frankenstein,” which was produced by Lions Gate Films and originally aired on October 10, 2004.
After “The X-Files” (originally) came to an end, other genre properties popped up in an effort to fill the hole it left behind. One of them was the USA Network’s “Frankenstein.”
This TV movie wasn’t so much about Frankenstein as it was an attempt at a murky cop procedural that so happens to involve undead monsters and mutants lurking in Louisiana.
From executive producer Martin Scorsese, “Frankenstein” originally aired as a means of setting the stage for an elaborate horror thriller with a monster-of-the-week approach, following two cynical detectives on the hunt for the mythical mad doctor.
Engineered by famed author Dean Koontz, the movie was a twist on the Mary Shelly story for a more contemporary setting that, at the very least,...
