The breakout star of Love Lies Bleeding, Katy O’Brian, is also seeing her fair share of franchise roles. Prior to her latest A24 movie, O’Brian has played parts in projects for Disney like The Mandalorian and Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She will also be seen in the upcoming Twisters, where she says, “We filmed a tornado movie during tornado season in Tornado Alley.” She would reveal that her character is “a little sillier” than she has been used to, but she won’t go as far as to call it a comic relief role. “I don’t want to say comedic role, and then everyone’s like, ‘She wasn’t funny.’ We’ll say it’s silly and fun.”

As last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (which has dropped the “Part One” subtitle since it hit home video) wrapped up, we saw that Tom Cruise’s Imf agent lead character Ethan Hunt would live to run another day – and pictures from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 (which won’t be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two after all) show him doing just that! Cruise running is a big part of these movies and his overall career, so it’s nice to see that Mission: Impossible 8 will indeed have him moving across the screen as fast as his legs can carry him. There’s even some video from the set as well, if you want to see this run in action.

Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus in the mythological Netflix drama. Kaos. Here’s the trailer for the upcoming show.
Writer Charlie Covell’s most recent show was Truelove, a dark drama for Channel 4 with a terrific ensemble cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters. Covell’s other dark comedy drama, The End Of The F***ing World, about a teenager who believes himself to be a psychopath, is now on Netflix and is well worth watching.
Her next show is Kaos, the synopsis reads as follows:
Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. Until he wakes up and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere. Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades (David Thewlis), the God of the Underworld, is secretly...

Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for the comedy fantasy 8-episode series ‘Kaos’, a modern-day contemporary retelling of Greek mythology.
Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere.
Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades, God of the Underworld, is secretly losing his grip on his dark dominion. There is a backlog of dead waiting to be processed and they are growing restless. Hera (Janet McTeer), Queen of the Gods, exercises dominion on Earth — and over Zeus — in her unique way. But her power and freedom become threatened by Zeus’ growing paranoia, and she is forced to act while Zeus’ rebellious son, Dionysus, (Nabhaan Rizwan), is...

Charlie Covell might be known for the successful adaptation of the comic series The End of the F***ing World, but the British writer is currently working on a new show for Netflix, which is going to be released later this year. Kaos is an original work by Covell that is going to be a fantastic, mythology-inspired black comedy that will follow the adventures of Ancient Greek gods in a modern setting. Ahead of this year’s premiere – a release window has not been specified, as of the time of writing – Netflix has released the first trailer for the series as well.
Kaos is going to have eight episodes, as has been confirmed by the streaming service, and will see legendary actor Jeff Goldblum as the ruler of the Greek pantheon, Zeus; Goldblum replaced Hugh Grant, who was initially attached to the role. You can check out what Goldblum looks like...

Here’s an idea to hit you like a lightning bolt: what if Jeff Goldblum was a Greek god? Frankly, it’s a pitch that’s difficult to turn down – which maybe explains why Netflix didn’t. The streaming service has upcoming drama Kaos on its slate, bringing a contemporary take on Greek mythology – and casting none other than Jurassic Park’s Ian Malcolm as Zeus, the King Of The Gods. Yes, the Chaotician is now the leader of Kaos. The series comes from The End Of The F***ing World writer Charlie Covell, and there’s a stylish first teaser that you can watch right here:
From the very first instance of Goldblum saying “mortals” in his none-more-Goldblum voice (while checking his gold watch), it’s clear that there’s mileage in this premise. Not to mention, his Zeus likes to wear striped tracksuits and open-collar shirts, while living...

You know Zeus. Greek god of thunder, curly hair, luscious big beard, turns into a swan? You’ve seen his face on statues in parks and on tile mosaics behind the counter in kebab shops.
That’s not the Zeus in Netflix’s new fantasy drama Kaos, from Charlie Covell, screenwriter of The End of the F***ing World. As played by Jeff Goldblum, the Zeus of Kaos looks more Tony Soprano than beardy all-father. And home-of-the-gods Mount Olympus? Think a lavishly appointed mansion such as you might see on Selling Sunset instead of a bucolic paradise crawling with nymphs and fauns.
Covell’s vision of Greek myth clearly comes with a modern twist, hence Zeus’ Casio watch and leisure suit collection in the first teaser trailer below:
As Goldblum explained at a recent Netflix slate preview event: “One may say it’s about the Gods, but a different version of the Gods.

Five years have gone by since Tom Cruise announced that Paramount Pictures had given the greenlight to two more Mission: Impossible movies, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) writer/director Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm. At one point, we thought these movies were going to carry the titles Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two… but Paramount is backtracking from that decision. After Dead Reckoning Part One underwhelmed at the box office when it was released last year, the studio has dropped Part One from the subtitle and has let it be known that the next film, which is still in production, will have a different title. A decision they really should have made before releasing the first half of the story. At least we’re still getting the second half of the story, with the...

The news of Tom Cruise setting a “strategic partnership” with Warner Bros. has certain “Top Gun” fans barrel-rolling out of control. Don’t panic, put on your oxygen mask before you attempt to help others — and definitely don’t jump without a chute, because a third “Top Gun” has been in development for a while now, a source told IndieWire.
“Top Gun: Maverick” screenwriter Ehren Kruger is working on the next film in the franchise, according to Puck News. The threequel-creating installment will reunite Cruise with his “Maverick” co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison will be back, and “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski is also set to return — either as director (again), or at least to produce.
Paramount Pictures declined comment on this story; a spokesperson for “Top Gun” co-producer Skydance did not immediately respond to our requests for comment.

Tom Cruise can be a divisive figure; we here at JoBlo love the guy but he definitely has his critics, primarily those who hit at his personal life and dealings in Scientology. But if you take a look at any one of his insane stunts – or listen to his tirade against slip-ups during the Covid-19 pandemic that shut down production on Dead Reckoning – you’ll know this guy is the real deal when it comes to making movies. And if you have anything bad to say about the guy’s work ethic, you’ll have to answer to M:i co-star Hannah Waddingham.
Hannah Waddingham, who co-stars in 2025’s sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One – which has yet to be officially named, but we feel like the fates might align on this one… – suggested that her views on Tom Cruise changed while working with him on the eighth installment of the M:i franchise.

The mission will remain impossible to see for another year. The eighth “Mission: Impossible” film in the Tom Cruise action series, which is dropping the previously announced “Dead Reckoning Part Two” from its title, has been delayed from 2024 to 2025, as part of a sweeping shift in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming release schedule.
The direct follow-up to this July’s “Dead Reckoning Part One,” “Part Two” was initially scheduled to premiere June 28, 2024, just 11 months after its direct predecessor’s release. It will now be released May 23, 2025, almost a full year after its initial date.
The “Mission: Impossible” sequel faces the most significant delay, but it’s not the only big ticket item on Paramount’s slate to get majorly pushed back. The film takes the release date previously held by a fourth feature film spinoff of the “Spongebob Squarepants” Nickelodeon animated series. Amazon MGM Studios have landed rights to Benjamin Percy’s novella “American Criminal,” with Gavin O’Connor negotiating to direct.
The film, which Hidden Pictures and NeoText will produce, follows a professional thief who, after being apprehended by an FBI agent, is coaxed into infiltrating a violent Midwestern gang with the goal of dismantling them from the inside. However, what the FBI agent doesn’t know is that the thief is also orchestrating the largest – and last – heist of his life.
O’Connor has directed a number of popular and critically acclaimed works, including “Warrior” with Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy, “The Accountant” with Ben Affleck, “Miracle” with Kurt Russell, and “Tumbleweeds,” which featured an Oscar-nominated turn from Janet McTeer. He most recently retimed with Affleck on 2020’s “The Way Back,” the story of an alcoholic basketball coach.

Emily Brontë's 1847 barn burner of a debut (and final) novel, "Wuthering Heights," has the not unique distinction of being an extraordinary piece of writing without any great screen adaptations to its name. Plenty of great books have been adapted into great films.
But even more great literary adaptations litter the studio rubbish heaps, the victims of crippling executive intervention, directors who took a Coppola-like big swing and missed, and most common of all, filmmakers who didn't take a big swing and ended up with perfectly fine, perfectly flat, one-for-one translations that ultimately leave you feeling the story just should have stayed on the page.
Paramount's 1992 take on "Wuthering Heights" ultimately belongs to that last category. And it's a shame, because the project had so much potential. Mirroring its source author, the film was prolific television director Peter Kosminsky's first theatrical feature (and ended up being his last...

Revivals have been a mainstay of Broadway for decades. But it wasn’t until the 31st ceremony in 1977 that the Tony Awards added a new category honoring these productions. The nominees for the inaugural prize were “Guys and Dolls,” “The Cherry Orchard” and “The Three Penny Opera” with “Porgy and Bess” taking the honors. Other winners over the years included “The Pirates of Penzance,” “Anything Goes,” “Death of a Salesman,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Gypsy.”
In 1994, the category was divided into best revival of a musical with Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel” winning the award and “An Inspector Calls” taking home the best revival of a play honor.
This year’s nominees in both categories celebrate the work of Stephen Sondheim, Henrik Ibsen and three landmark black playwrights: August Wilson, Suzan-Lori Parks and Lorraine Hansberry. Here’s a closer look at this year’s contenders.

From the caveman with the biggest stick to the CEO with the largest bank account, things really haven't changed all that much. In the 2022 dark comedy "The Menu," those who have spent their whole lives in servitude finally get a chance to turn the tables in a truly bizarre tableau.
In the film, directed by Mark Mylod, a group of wealthy, privileged diners visit an exclusive island restaurant called Hawthorne for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. The whole meal is planned in advance from start to finish (no substitutions) and has a story that goes along with it, all created by the eccentric but brilliant Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes in a brilliant performance). After appearing in her sister Mary-Kate and Ashley’s projects in a child, Elizabeth Olsen took a break from on-screen acting until her film debut in 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene. In the decade since, Elizabeth has proven herself to be so much more than just the “other” Olsen sister with a filmography full of compelling roles that show her incredible range as an actor. In honor of her most recent role as Candy Montgomery in the Max miniseries Love & Death, here are some of Elizabeth Olsen’s best roles so far that truly prove she’s one of the best actors of the last decade.

James Ijames Pulitzer Prize-winning “Fat Ham,” which opened to strong reviews on Broadway April 12 after a Sro engagement at the Public Theater, is the latest reinvention of a Shakespeare play. A strong contender for multiple Tony nominations is set at a Southern cookout where a queer black college student named Juicy (Marcel Spears) is dealing with a lot of issues including identity, the ghost of his dead father and the fact that his mother recently married his uncle.
“I have this need to disrupt the canon as much as I can, and disrupt people’s deification and lionization of classical texts…as if they’re frozen in amber and all we can do is put a treatment on top of that like wallpaper, by setting it in the ‘20s,” Ijames told Playbill. “There’s this real desire in me to take the parts of the classics and bring them closer...

The top honorees at the 2023 Laurence Olivier Awards were plays that focused on cultures outside of London. “My Neighbour Totoro,” which is based on the beloved Japanese film of the same name from Studio Ghibli, won six trophies, the most of the night, including Best New Comedy, Director, and four craft categories. A revival of the American classic “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams claimed three: Best Play Revival and for lead Paul Mescal and featured player Anjana Vasan. Meanwhile, the British-based “Prima Facie,” which is set to bow on Broadway this month and will thus compete at the Tony Awards, took home two prizes for Best Play and for star Jodie Comer.
The only other productions to win more than one trophy were all musicals. “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” won two of the top prizes: Best Musical and Best Original Score or New Orchestrations. “Tammy Faye,...

Danny DeVito will return to the Broadway stage this October in a new play by Theresa Rebeck called I Need That.
The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor will star alongside his daughter Lucy DeVito and Ray Anthony Thomas in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of what the company describes as “a deeply human new comedy.”
Preview and opening night dates for I Need That at Roundabout’s American Airlines Theatre will be announced later.
The synopsis: Sam (DeVito) doesn’t get out much. Actually, he doesn’t get out at all, opting instead for the safety of his house in the company of his things – his many, many things. But when a notice from the government arrives alerting Sam that he must clean up his property or face eviction, he’s forced to reckon with what’s trash, what’s treasure, and whether we can ever know the difference between the two.

Kaos has been a long-time coming. Netflix first announced it had commissioned this British dark comedy reimagining Greek mythology back in 2018, but the pandemic meant that filming only started last year, and there’s already been one major cast replacement.
And even though we’re no closer to an official release date, the impressive cast list, unique premise and solid production team make Kaos well worthy of your attention.
‘Nothing Is Sacred’ in This Bold Take On Greek Myth
Set over eight one-hour episodes, Kaos is a contemporary reimagining of Greek Mythology exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld. The official synopsis describes how six humans will discover they’re part of an ancient prophecy:
“Zeus has a wrinkle. He’s worried it might mean the end of the world and it might. Because on Earth, six humans unaware of their importance or their connection to...

The 2023 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actress are Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Hong Chau (“The Whale”), Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”), and Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”). Our odds currently indicate that Bassett (18/5) will emerge victorious, followed in order of likelihood by Condon (37/10), Curtis (19/5), Hsu (9/2), and Chau (9/2).
For the first time since 2012, all five of the women in this lineup are new to the category. The last instance involved winner Octavia Spencer (“The Help”) and nominees Bérénice Bejo (“The Artist”), Jessica Chastain (“The Help”), Melissa McCarthy (“Bridesmaids”), and Janet McTeer (“Albert Nobbs”). The current group’s complete Oscars newcomer rate of 80% has become common in recent years, with the same percentage also having applied to the nominees of 2022, 2018, and 2016.

Henrik Ibsen’s world-(in)famous play “A Doll’s House” has not been seen on Broadway in over 25 years, when Janet McTeer led a production under the direction of Anthony Page. Now, into the shoes of legendary character Nora Helmer steps Oscar winner Jessica Chastain, starring in a work adapted by Pulitzer Prize-finalist Amy Herzog and directed by Tony Award nominee Jamie Lloyd. “A Doll’s House” opened March 9 at the Hudson Theatre and will play through June 10, just one day before the Tonys.
Joining Chastain in Ibsen’s form-defining domestic drama about the oppressive gender politics of the so-called private sphere in nineteenth-century Norway are Emmy nominee Arian Moayed as her husband Torvald, Okieriete Onaodowan as the opportunistic Nils Krogstad, Michael Patrick Thornton as the sympathetic Dr. Rank, Jesmille Darbouze as Nora’s old friend Kristine Linde, and Tasha Lawrence as the Helmers’ nanny.

Two new works based on existing material dominated the nominations for the 2023 Olivier Awards, the top theatre honor in Britain. “My Neighbour Totoro” and “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” lead the play and musical fields with nine and eight bids apiece. The former is a stage adaptation of the Studio Ghibli film of the same name, brought to life in a visually stunning production featuring impressive puppetry by Basil Twist. “Standing at the Sky’s Edge” uses songs from the Richard Hawley album and new material to tell the story of three families in a Sheffield housing complex.
Revivals had strong showings, too. Director Daniel Fish’s remounting of “Rodger & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!” and the Paul Mescal-led “A Streetcar Named Desire” netted seven and six nominations, respectively. Con O’Neill, who plays Neil Ackroyd in BBC One’s hit drama Happy Valley, has said his mind was “blown” when he read the script for the season finale.
The last-ever episode of the series aired on Sunday (5 January), in which main character Catherine Cawood (played by Sarah Lancashire) came face-to-face with Tommy Lee Royce (played by James Norton).
In last week’s penultimate episode, fans were left in suspense, concerned that prison escapee Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) might harm Catherine and take his son (and her grandson) Ryan, played by Rhys Connah, off to Spain.
Speaking on Thursday’s episode of This Morning (2 February), O’Neill shared his excitement for the finale.
O’Neill didn’t reveal any spoilers regarding the season finale but admitted that the script blew his mind when he read it.
“It blew my mind,” he said. “Sally [Wainwright, the show’s writer] has written an extraordinary ending to this show.

We’re now about halfway through the 2022-23 Broadway season, and there are currently nine productions of plays set to open this spring. Could we be seeing any of them contend at this year’s Tony Awards? Below is a plot overview of each play as well as the awards history of its author, cast, and creative teams, plus the opening and (where applicable) closing dates.
“Pictures From Home” (opens February 9; closes April 30)
This stage adaptation of Larry Sultan’s 1992 photo memoir is a comic and dramatic portrait of a mother and father, and the son who photographed their lives. As Larry tries to capture his parents, their reality explodes from the frame in an exploration of the power of art and how much it reveals.
Adapted for the stage by WGA nominee Sharr White, the production stars Tony winner Danny Burstein, three-time Tony winner Nathan Lane, and four-time Tony nominee Zoë Wanamaker.

HBO Max has cooked up a slate of several classic films as well as a few newer ones arriving this January. “The Menu” (2022) arrived early in the month after releasing theatrically in November before Thanksgiving. Danny DeVito’s “Matilda” (1996) can contend with Netflix’s new movie musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book. And while Tom Hanks’ latest role “A Man Called Otto” has hit the box office, several of his films have landed at various streamers if you’re hankering for more after the tear-jearking feature film.
Hitting the sweet spot for dog movie lovers is “Marley and Me,” starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, and the animated wonder “The Book of Life” is also newly added.
Here are some of the best new movies to stream on HBO Max in January 2023.

Recent filmmaking has seen growth in a particular subgenre that, for the sake of brevity, we will call “Eat the Rich.” We meet a bunch of rich people, they are dreadful, and then they are either murdered or exposed, or made to suffer in one way or another. We have seen it in Glass Onion, in Triangle of Sadness, and we have seen it in the anthology series The White Lotus. The message of these stories is invariably that “these are dreadful people and every bad thing that happens to them is something that they deserve.” This article will not speculate on why so many of these stories seem to be emerging at once, nor what issues in the wider world they seek to address. You probably have your theories.

Director Mark Mylod has shared the idea behind his satirical thriller film ‘The Menu’, featuring Ralph Fiennes in the lead, along with Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, Reed Birney and Judith Light, among others.
The film revolves around a weekend trip to a coastal island in the Pacific Northwest, where a couple joins several other guests to eat at an exclusive restaurant, Hawthorn.
Chef Julian Slowik (played by Ralph Fiennes) has prepared a one-of-a-kind spread for his guests. What is intriguing is that every course served by him reveals some secrets and unexpected dishes.
Sharing his vision, Mark: “We wanted to be really careful about skewering the industry and walked this tightrope, poking at it while remaining deeply respectful of the art form and the humans who are involved.”
He added: “When I got involved, I did my own personal dive into that world to educate myself...

Some of this year’s best supporting performances in film didn’t arise from your classic scenery-chewing powerhouse monologues or even a de rigueur prolonged cameo by a stalwart veteran — the kinds of smaller dramatic roles that net major industry awards. For every heartrending speech in Women Talking, The Whale and The Fabelmans, there are still dozens of biting one-liners and sidesplitting visual gags in a handful of 2022’s strongest comedies that should not go ignored. Comedies are often honored for their screenplays, but it takes distinctive talent to bring those vibrant pages to life.

Mark Mylod’s The Menu, from a script by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, has become one of Searchlight Pictures’ best success stories since its release last month, racking up the company’s biggest opening weekend since Slumdog Millionaire.
The recipe for the mix of chills and thrills that delight and terrify diners including Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Janet McTeer and John Leguizamo, has been carefully balanced by its director with all the precision of the dark head chef, Slowik, played with relish by Ralph Fiennes. The Menu is a comedy horror movie directed by Mark Mylod, starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Fiennes’ performance and the photography save the day in this film as the story at all times maintains a freezing distance to its characters. If that is deliberate or not, will remain a mystery.
Premise
Chef extraodinaire, Julian Slowik, offers a six course dinner at his secluded restaurant to select patrons.
Movie Review
With its pristine photography, and the superb performances, especially by Ralph Fiennes, this horror/thriller, with very faint hints of dark comedy, is visually impressive but does not quite get under one’s skin. It is as cold as the characters in the story.
The Menu (2022)
It is unpleasant by nature – being the thriller/horror movie it is – and the few humorous interjections, while funny, are as cynical as can be, making one laugh but not feel too good about it.

"The Menu" is proving to be a hit for Searchlight, as its opening weekend box office numbers are the highest since the opening weekend of "Slumdog Millionaire." It likely won't go on to make as much as the 2008 Best Picture winner, but the lesson within shows an interest in bizarre genre movies like this. Mark Mylod's dark comedy sees a group of wealthy diners partaking in an extravagantly expensive meal prepared by Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) and his team. The Hawthorne establishment is located on a remote island, which makes their evening a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The dishes resemble art exhibitions more than something you would actually be excited about ordering.
What starts as an overpriced meal quickly becomes something much more sinister, as Chef Slowik takes his diners on an unpredictable journey of class, ego, and flavor they'll never forget. It's best to go into "The Menu" knowing very little,...

Everyone who has seen The Menu is rushing to do one very specific thing after the credits roll.
The dark comedy thriller has proven itself to be a surprise box office hit since its release on 18 November.
The Menu stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult in a satirical horror directed by Mark Mylod, who has previously worked on episodes of Game of Thrones and Succession.
The film follows a young couple (Taylor-Joy and Hoult) who travel to a remote island for a meal at an exclusive restaurant run by head chef Julian Slowik (Fiennes). There, they are joined by numerous other extremely wealthy guests.

Meagan wrote in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Even with bursts of shocking violence, there’s a restraint to the horror and madness. The wit, humor, style, and performances ultimately serve tasty morsels worth savoring. The pacing is as methodical as Chef Slowik’s meal, which means it has a way of dragging on a bit too long without fully satiating.”

A surprise box office hit has manifested in the form of a new satirical horror.
The film in question is The Menu, a dark comedy thriller from Game of Thrones and Succession director Mark Mylod.
Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy lead the ensemble film, which is best experienced knowing as little as possible.
For those who do want to know the plot, though, it follows a young couple, played by Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Houly, who travel to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant.
However, it soon becomes clear that the mysterious chef (Fiennes) has some surprises his sleeve for the unsuspecting guests.
After being released on 18 November, The Menu has amassed global box office takings of 15.2m (£12.9m), which is Searchlight Picture’s biggest opening weekend since Slumdog Millionaire in 2008.
That means the film has made back half its budget in just one weekend, and looks set...

Sunday Writethru after Saturday Update: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever‘s second weekend is coming in lower than its projected 70M+ with 67.3M, -63. That’s not necessarily something to get worried about, however, as sources keep telling me this pic’s running time is what’s slowing it down a bit. At the same time, that second weekend is slightly ahead of Black Adam‘s 67M opening weekend.
On the bright side, it’s Thanksgiving week, and if people aren’t seeing Wakanda Forever this weekend, then they’re making an appointment to see it sometime this week, hands down. Furthermore, there was always bound to be a steep drop in the Friday-to-Friday coming off the Veterans Day holiday and previews a week ago, that number being -79 for 17.9M Friday.
Even though the running total for Wakanda Forever at 288M today will be 2 behind Doctor Strange in the...

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “The Menu,” featuring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy in a social satire about a Chef and his unique multi-course meal plan, in theaters on November 18th.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The setting is a private island, where world famous chef Julian (Ralph Fiennes) presents a multi-course and pretentious gourmet meal for an exclusive clientele, who have spent five figures for the privilege. This includes Tyler (Nicholas Hoult), a weasly food fan boy and his date Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy), who doesn’t understand the fuss. The rest of the diners are a mini Gilligan’s Island, including the movie star (John Leguizamo), the food critic (Janet McTeer), the millionaire & his wife (Reed Birney and Judith Light) and some background tech bros. As each course is served, there is a realization that Chef Julian has brought them together for a reason, and that means danger is also on the menu.

Are you with us or with them? It’s an exceedingly simple question. Reductive, one might say. And yet, the inability to answer this query produces most of the anxiety and tension in what is a fang-toothed laceration of class, capitalism, and the pretenses of foodie culture. In other words, it’s a key ingredient to the new bleakly funny thriller, The Menu.
The horror/satire hybrid is directed by Game of Thrones and Succession veteran Mark Mylod, and is written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, who between them have writing credits in Succession, The New Yorker, and The Onion. That fits since the movie is a bit like a high-concept gag from those latter publications. If one squints, they can even imagine the same setup being used for either a faux news report about the service industry eating the rich or as...
