Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has tapped Nicole Shanahan, a Silicon Valley lawyer, as his running mate for president.
Rfk Jr. made the announcement during an event in Oakland on Tuesday. “I’m so proud to introduce to you the next vice president of the United States, my fellow lawyer, a brilliant scientist, technologist, a fierce warrior mom: Nicole Shanahan.” He also noted that she is “an avid surfer who attended school on a softball scholarship.”

On Sunday during the Super Bowl, a super Pac supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ran an ad for his independent presidential campaign for the 2024 election.
The advertisement displayed pictures of the candidate in vintage attire, echoing the campaign of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy. The commercial was meant to honor the legacy of the former president and stir up buzz from Rfk Jr., however, many members of the Kennedy family did not receive it well.
Kennedy’s cousin, Bobby Shriver, son of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, posted on X, “My cousin’s Super Bowl ad used our uncle’s faces – and my Mother’s. She would be appalled by his deadly health care views.”

Incomprehensible Maga-land predictions that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would rig the Super Bowl and endorse Joe Biden for president to 100 million American viewers as part of a massive psy-op turned out to have been greatly exaggerated. Mostly, they just kissed a lot.
But that’s not to say our nation’s fractious politics didn’t break through during the broadcast. While most of the ads involved the usual self-effacing celebrities asserting their cultural relevance — and some of them were crowd-pleasers and even funny — a number of them touched on some of the most divisive issues of the day: religion, the presidential race and Bud Light.
Going in, all eyes were on the last, the object of a polarizing 2023 boycott from conservative groups for having collaborated with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney on an Instagram campaign to promote March Madness. Sales slumped. Kid Rock strafed at Bud Light cases with his...

Robert Kennedy Jr. apologized for an ad his super Pac ran during the Super Bowl on Sunday after his cousin, Bobby Shriver, bashed how the ad used the family’s faces to promote the anti-vax candidate’s “deadly health care views.”
“I’m so sorry if the Super Bowl advertisement caused anyone in my family pain,” Rfk Jr. wrote. “The ad was created and aired by the American Values Super Pac without any involvement or approval from my campaign. Fec rules prohibit Super PACs from consulting with me or my staff.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent for the White House, leaned heavily on his late uncle’s political legacy with a Super Bowl spot that recreated a vintage TV ad from John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign.
Kennedy Jr., who is the son of the late Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of JFK, is pursuing a controversial political agenda that includes advocating against vaccines for Covid and other diseases. He is married to actress Cheryl Hines.
The original spot uses rudimentary animation and stop motion edits that blend photos and headline messages such “Vote Kennedy,” “A Time for Greatness” and “Vote Democratic.” Rfk Jr.’s version featured photos of himself where his uncle had been and other adjustments.
The spot aired during the first half of the NFL championship game between the San Francisoco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rfk Jr. distributed the ad via his social media channels.

A presidential campaign ad for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl — and it might have looked familiar for folks who were around when John F. Kennedy was running for president.
The ad, from super Pac American Values 2024, resembled a presidential campaign ad for Kennedy’s uncle, JFK, when he was campaigning for president alongside his running mate Lyndon B. Johnson in 1960.
The original, black-and-white ad features a catchy song repeating “Kennedy” over and over in the chorus, while images of JFK and his name are shown over lyrics like: “Do you want a man for president who’s seasoned through and through? But not so doggone seasoned that he won’t try something new? A man who’s old enough to know and young enough to do?”
Rfk Jr.’s includes the same song with the same lyrics, along with the same (now-vintage) vibe of the original.

Update: Robert Kennedy Jr. apologized to family members for a Super Bowl spot that mimicked an ad run by his uncle John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential run.

Kennedy did pin the ad to his X/Twitter account, where it remains.
Bobby Shriver, Kennedy’s cousin, objected to the spot, writing that his mother Eunice “would be appalled by his deadly health care views.” Mark Shriver wrote that he agreed with that sentiment against the ad, and Maria Shriver retweeted her brother’s objections.

Last week, there was a wonderful essay in The New York Times about a leadership program created by the old Bell System back in 1952. The all-powerful telephone company worried that its executives needed a broader perspective, not just on business but also on society, even life itself. "A well-trained man knows how to answer questions," one sociologist explained. "An educated man knows what questions are worth asking."
Working with the University of Pennsylvania, Bell launched the Institute of Humanistic Studies for Executives--a 10-month program in which businesspeople read and debated the Great Books, visited museums, and studied architecture. The "capstone" of the program was a series of eight three-hour seminars devoted to Ulysses. Can you imagine? Twenty-four hours devoted to the discussion of a single (and famously vexing) novel!
As I finished the Times piece, I lamented how little time any of us has to think deeper, look broader, and...

Started by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006, the (Red) organization aims to raise awareness and money for African AIDS programs through partnerships with companies such as Apple, Converse, Gap, and Nike, and now Diptyque. The esteemed Paris-based candle-maker and parfumerie has recently launched (diptyque)Red, a sweet-smelling candle specifically designed for the worthy cause. Inspired by the plight of disease-stricken women and children in Africa, as well as a hope for a cure, the scent experts at Diptyque have infused the light, powdery aroma of vanilla with the smooth, earthy smells of rooibos, an exotic plant with antioxidant and healing properties that grows in the Cederberg Mountains of South Africa. Ten percent of proceeds from each (diptyque)Red candle sold will aid the Global Fund, an organization that provides life-changing medicine to AIDS patients in Africa.

The first concerned the time she called Bobby, who lives in L.A. and is well connected in show business, to say that she had an idea for a script. She thought women should have stronger role models to emulate, and since Jesus is always commercial, she proposed a biopic on the Virgin Mary. As was so often the case with Eunice Shriver, she got her way. NBC ran Mary, Mother of Jesus, as a TV movie in 1999. The second story involved her youngest son, Anthony, who was born when she was 44 years old.

Latest: Clint Eastwood has laughed off the news fellow action man-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger had terminated him from California's Parks Commission last week (ends21Mar08).
Oscar winner Eastwood, who was the mayor of Carmel, California in the 1980s, was dismissed from the commission by the state's Governor Schwarzenegger when he tried to block the construction of a controversial toll road.
The Terminator star also sacked his brother-in-law Bobby Shriver after he and Eastwood publicly disagreed with Schwarzenegger over plans for a toll road through a park in southern California.
And while Eastwood was surprised by the Governor's decision, he and Shriver are making light of the situation.
Eastwood says, "I talked to him (Shriver) the day we were not reappointed, or as Donald Trump would say, 'You're fired.'
"We laughed about it, and I said, 'Me? But you're his brother-in-law!' and he said, 'But you're his friend and longtime mentor!'"
A spokesman for Schwarzenegger said the pair was let go because their terms had expired.

Hollywood hardman-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has fired fellow actor Clint Eastwood from the California's parks commission - after he tried to block the construction of a controversial toll road.
The Terminator star also sacked his brother-in-law Bobby Shriver after they publicly disagreed with Schwarzenegger over plans for a toll road through a park in southern California.
Shriver says he and Eastwood are shocked by the decision.
He says, "I had hoped to continue to do this work and to protect the park system from developers. It shows you how strong these developers were that were able to arm-wrestle the governor into firing us."
A spokesman for the California governor says the pair's terms had expired.

Director Stephen Frears is in talks to follow up his Oscar-nominated The Queen with Screen Gems' courtroom drama The Burial.
Penned by Doug Wright, the film centers on the true story of Willie Gary, a black personal-injury lawyer from Mississippi who took on the case of Jeremiah O'Keefe, the owner of a local chain of funeral homes who claimed he had been swindled by a major funeral parlor conglomerate. With the cooperation of O'Keefe's lawyer, an admitted racist, he won $260 million for the plaintiff. The story is based on a New Yorker Magazine article written by Jonathan Harr.
The project had been set up at Warner Bros. Pictures but was put into turnaround before Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper snapped up the rights.
Jenette Kahn, former president and editor-in-chief of DC Comics and Mad Magazine, and Adam Richman are producing through their Double Nickel shingle. Edward Saxon and Robert Shriver, who had been attached to produce when the project was set up at Warner Bros. Pictures, will produce as well alongside Steven Greener.
