Exclusive: Mainstay Entertainment is producing a documentary on professional tennis player Aleksandra Krunic. Norman Aladjem and Madeleine Buisseret are producing for Mainstay along with sports documentarian Natalie Jowett, who wrote and directed an Emmy-winning documentary on the tragedy of the 1972 Munich Olympics and was nominated for an Emmy as a producer on the NFL Network documentary America’s Game and the Iran Hostage Crisis.
Production is scheduled to begin April 8 at the Billie Jean King Cup (the female version of the Davis Cup) in Lisbon. No distribution has been set.
The documentary will focus on the reality of what it’s really like being a professional athlete away from all the glitz and glamour we’ve become so used to seeing. The conceit of the project is to highlight the antithesis of the global star both on and, more importantly, off the court.
Mainstay has cultivated a diverse slate of projects across platforms.

Less than a year ago, Paramount Global found a new reason to cheer about the midnight hour.
In December, the company did something few of its competitors could do: It struck a deal with Google to have three different late-night hosts weave a promotional message about the search-engine giant into their programs. On the night of December 15, Stephen Colbert, James Corden and Trevor Noah all nodded to Google during CBS’ “Late Show” and “Late Late Show” and Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.” The ad deal represented a vote of confidence in a sturdy portfolio of late-night programs that spanned broadcast and cable.
Now, a good chunk of the talent in that collection is gearing up to move.

Though his last publicly reported contract was a 5-year pact that took the Comedy Central host through 2022, two sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that he’d quietly re-upped earlier this year. But, as he noted on air Thursday evening, he’s ready to move on.

I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows, I miss being everywhere and doing everything.”

“The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah is developing and may star in a remake of “The President’s Analyst,” the 1967 political satire that starred James Coburn as the Oval Office’s resident psychiatrist. Paramount Pictures will back the film.
Noah will have a critical helping hand when it comes to navigating White House life. Pat Cunnane, who was President Barack Obama’s senior writer and deputy director of messaging, wrote the screenplay for the film. The original became a cult classic thanks to its trippy elements that veered on camp (there’s an animated explanation of microelectronics that has to be seen to be believed). It followed a psychoanalyst who is given a top-secret assignment to help an increasingly paranoid and overly stressed U.S. president. It’s unclear what Cunnane has planned and Paramount isn’t releasing a logline other than to say the story will be told “through the...

Comedian and “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah is teaming up with Paramount to develop a remake of 1967’s “The President’s Analyst” as a potential star vehicle for Noah, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Pat Cunnane, who served as President Barack Obama’s Senior Writer and Deputy Director of Messaging at the White House, wrote the script, described as a re-examination of the 1967 satire through the lens of the contemporary political landscape.
James Coburn starred in the original film as psychiatrist Sidney Schaefer, who is recruited by the U.S. government to serve as the president’s own top-secret psychoanalyst. On call at all hours and privy to the leader’s most private thoughts, Schaefer develops paranoia, which turns out to be warranted, since numerous international agencies really are out to get him for his access to highly classified information.

Exclusive: HBO Max has ordered a script for 1% Happy, a single camera comedy from Ralph Breaks the Internet star Dani Fernandez and The Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr.
The comedy will star Fernandez, who will write the script, and she will also exec produce alongside Wood via his South Park and Princeton Productions banner. Fernandez recently contributed to The Good Immigrant book.
1% Happy centers around a woman who, after a particularly dark period in her life, is forced to move back in with her estranged father and attend weekly group therapy with a class of oddballs. Showing the funny and relatable sides of Clinical Depression, the series challenges both the stigma of mental illness and the United States healthcare system itself.
Wood Jr. has been on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Trevor Noah since 2015 as a correspondent, and in 2017, he was named the host of Comedy Central...

Exclusive: Paramount has acquired an untitled film project built around the Adewumi family. Living in a homeless center on religious asylum, 8-year-old Tani won the 2019 New York chess championship, despite only being introduced to the game two years earlier. The drama will be culled from three books on the family that have been set up at the HarperCollins imprint W Publishing.
Producing are Day Zero Productions’ Trevor Noah and Haroon Saleem, State Street Pictures’ George Tillman Jr. and Bob Teitel, and Mainstay Entertainment’s Norman Aladjem.
The drama will tell the story of a Nigerian family that escaped terrorism in their home country, sought and received asylum in America and — against all odds — found a welcoming new home in New York. Veteran Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. has signed a first-look development deal with Comedy Central that covers content for television and new media. Under the pact, Woods will headline his third one-hour stand-up special for the network and will also write and star in an original digital series titled The Night Pigeon.
Separate from the new pact, Comedy Central has given a pilot green light to Wood’s Jefferson County: Probation, from Trevor Noah & Aaron McGruder. The project, which had been in the works at Comedy Central for a year, will film in Wood’s hometown of Birmingham, Alabama this May.
Written by Wood and Aaron McGruder (Boondocks), Jefferson County: Probation is based on Wood’s early life. It stars him as a probation officer willing to bend the rules to help the clients he monitors, much to the chagrin of his partner and everyone else in his life.

Exclusive: Everyone’s had those awkward family dinners where the discussion turns uncomfortable, if not downright unpleasant. That’s certainly what happens in this clip from Simple Wedding, a comedy starring and executive produced by Rita Wilson, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Tara Grammy that premieres Friday at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Take a look above.
The logline describes Mainstay Entertainment’s Simple Wedding as a romantic comedy about a young Iranian-American woman and the lengths she goes to in order to appease her parents and their need to see her settled down. But there’s plenty of subplot discussed in the clip — and how.
The film also stars Christopher O’Shea, Maz Jobrani, Houshang Touzie, Peter Mackenzie, James Eckhouse, Rebecca Henderson, Aleque Reid, Jaleh Modjallal, Angelica Gibbs & Ryan-James Hatanaka. Sara Zandieh directed it from a script she wrote with Stephanie Wu and also serves as producer alongside Ray Moheet and Norman Aladjem.
