In recent days, we've once again started hearing rumblings about Marvel Studios' plans for Nova. The character has been ignored for far too long, with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn happily admitting the hero never interested him.
The expectation is that when the character does finally appear in the MCU, Sam Alexander will hold the Nova mantle. There may, however, still be plans for Richard Rider to act as a mentor or partner to the teenager.
Talking to Screen Rant, Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum seemed to strongly hint that Nova is destined to take flight on Disney+
"It's new territory for us, developing more shows than we produce," he started. "Nova certainly is exciting to us, we've got some great ideas simmering. I think there's a lot of potential there. I love Nova, also, from the comics, especially the Richard Rider era.

So far, Loki is the only Disney+ Marvel-based series to get a second season, but we're now hearing that a sophomore run for another popular show might be in the cards.
According to Daniel Richtman, a second season of Ms. Marvel is being discussed, but a final decision has not been made.
We have heard that Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is being position as a major player in the MCU going forward, so a second season of her solo show would make sense. That said, Khan's big-screen debut, The Marvels, massively underperformed, which might well influence Marvel/Disney's decision.
Somewhat controversially for long-time fans of the character, Khan was revealed to be a mutant in the season 1 finale, ret-conning her Inhuman status from the comic books.
This new origin soon carried over to the page (though she also retains her Inhuman-ness), with Khan becoming the latest member of the X-Men,...

Zac Efron may have risen to prominence after starring in the High School Musical trilogy, but he's since reinvented himself in a big way.
Shedding the "frat boy" persona movies like Neighbors and Dirty Grandpa later labelled him with, the actor has shown a darker, far more serious side in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and The Iron Claw. Now, all eyes are on what Efron does next.
If a new rumour shared by @MyTimeToShineH is to be believed, then it could be a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
We don't have any news on who he'll play, though there are plenty of possibilities. Recently, there have been rumours about Marvel Studios finally moving forward with a Nova TV series, and while the focus is expected to be on Sam Alexander, Efron would arguably make a perfect Richard Rider.

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.
Last we heard, the studio had settled on a movie, but a new rumor is claiming that Nova will be making his debut on the small screen after all.
According to Daniel Richtman, Nova will be a Disney+ series, and production is currently scheduled to get underway at some point next year. The reliable insider has also heard that the show will focus on a "young lead," which means there's a decent chance it won't be Richard Rider, but Marvel Comics' more recent incarnation of the space-faring hero, Sam Alexander.
A young lead would also indicate that Ryan Gosling won't be playing the character!

Marvel Studios has more than 20 projects in the works, focusing on both big and lesser-known characters from the comics, despite claims made by Iger that the studio will decrease its creative output to 2-3 movies a year and 2 live-action shows.
One of the confirmed projects that’s been in development for years now is ‘Nova.’ First imagined as a series, it was later reworked into a feature film, and now, it seems that it’s back to being a series again.
Daniel Richtman notable scooper and leaker published on his private Patreon that, what was supposed to be a feature film is now being reworked to be a Disney+ series, focusing on a younger protagonist. This means that the primary Nova in the MCU will be Sam Alexander, and not Richard Ryder which many fans were looking forward to. Richtman also stated that production should begin next year.

We know that Marvel Studios had to adjust their plans due to a rough year at the box office. Both ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ and ‘The Marvels’ didn’t perform well with audiences, prompting Bob Iger to acknowledge issues with recent quality. Rumors suggest upcoming projects like ‘Captain Marvel 3’ and ‘Ant-Man 4’ might be canceled, while ‘Eternals 2’ is said to be undergoing significant changes.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, recently shared details about upcoming MCU projects in an interview with Phase Zero. He mentioned that season three of ‘X-Men ’97’ is in development, despite Beau DeMayo’s departure before the second season premiere. Winderbaum also confirmed that a ‘Nova’ project is in the early stages, but couldn’t say if it’ll focus on Sam Alexander or Richard Rider.

We know that Marvel Studios was forced to shift their strategy a bit due to disastrous year regarding Box-office. Marvel Studios has a robust lineup of over 20 projects in development, spotlighting both prominent and lesser-known characters from the comics. Recent rumors suggest that executives are exploring additional characters to expand the Disney+ show offerings.
Despite the industry-wide impact of the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, causing delays and uncertainties for some previously announced and speculated projects, occasional updates or rumors assure fans that progress is still underway. Over the past seven years, a Nova-centric project has been heavily rumored. The initial plan was for it to be a movie, but later speculations hinted at a Disney+ series. Now, according to the reliable insider Daniel Richtman, it appears the Nova project is destined to be a feature film after all.
Rumor: A project centered on 'Nova', which was originally going to be a limited series, is now being reworked as a feature film.

If I had a dollar for every time I predicted the twists and turns in the new movie The Collective, I wouldn’t be even close to being a millionaire, for there are not that many twists here in the first place. Directed by Tom DeNucci, The Collective is like a stepping stone for the performers to showcase their skills, and the film unfolds like it’s well aware of that fact. The film has a decent star cast with actors like Don Johnson, Paul Ben-Victor, and Tyrese Gibson added to the mix who do a good job, but it is Lucas Till who gets to play the title role. I should add that he falters badly as he is unable to add to the stakes of this action thriller. See, that’s what Tom Cruise does well in the “Mission Impossible” franchise. He sells you the movie by acting like it really matters.

The MacGyver reboot that starred Lucas Till came to an end in 2021 after a five season, 94 episode run – and now Till is moving on from his MacGyver with the action thriller The Collective, which will be receiving a theatrical, digital, and VOD release (courtesy of Quiver Distribution) on August 4th. With that release date just over a month away, a trailer for The Collective has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Tom DeNucci (Johnny & Clyde) directed The Collective from a screenplay by Jason James and Matthew Rogers. The Collective has the following synopsis: A group of righteous assassins called The Collective take aim at a highly sophisticated human trafficking ring backed by a network of untouchable billionaires. "Found 'em! I'll send some guys..." Quiver Distribution has unveiled an official trailer for The Collective, a new action thriller from filmmaker Tom DeNucci. This is yet another of these junk action films, with a similar plot to so many others - involving hitmen and traffickers and taking out the "bad guys". A young recruit to a mysterious agency finds himself going rogue on his first assignment, tracking down a dangerous group of "untouchable" human traffickers. The Collective charts the story of a group of righteous assassins who take aim at a human trafficking ring that's backed by a network of billionaires. Lucas Till stars as Sam Alexander, a "rookie assassin", joined by Ruby Rose, Mercedes Varnado, Paul Ben-Victor, Tyrese Gibson, John Fiore, Levon Panek, plus Don Johnson as their leader. This looks as uninteresting and derivative as anything can, even the action. Will anyone even watch? // Continue Reading ›...

"Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" scribe Jeff Loveness may have brought his experience in creating whacky science-fiction tales due to his time as a writer on "Rick and Morty," but his intimate knowledge of Marvel Comics stems directly from the superhero books he worked on. Loveness has written for both Marvel and DC, as well as for the independent publisher Boom! Studios, covering "Shazam!," "Spider-Man," and "Nova." The latter is near and dear to Loveness' heart, so it's no surprise that the writer has a few ideas about how the character can translate to the screen.

The man called Nova is finally headed to the MCU. Deadline has announced that Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada will be shepherding the character into the MCU. At this point, we don’t know if Nova will be a series or a movie, but excitement is already building.
Moviegoers have already received a glimpse of Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy, in which the Nova Corps played an important role. For comic book fans, the Nova Corps looks quite different. As in the movies, the Nova Corps is an intergalactic peace-keeping group, with members from all over the galaxy. But instead of flying around in cool star-shaped spaceships, the Nova Corps gain their power from their helmets and Centurion suits. Once a new member joins the Corps, their helmet grants them super-speed, flight, energy projection, and damage resistance.

Marvel fans have been waiting patiently to finally see the classic character Nova make his debut in the McU. A few months ago it was reported that Marvel Studios has started developing a Nova film project. Now, McU Cosmic is reporting that the character will make his big arrival in Phase 5. The site reports:
According to very reliable sources, Nova appears to be one of the big characters planned for a Phase 5 debut alongside Blade, The Fantastic Four, and the Mutants. And from the sound of things, and how it’s been in development for a while, it could be relatively early in Phase 5 as well.

Despite having a pretty massive influence on the original Guardians of the Galaxy film, the Nova Corps had yet to truly have their own moment to shine in the McU.
After Thanos admitted to wiping out the Xandarian police force off-screen before the events of Infinity War, many fans wondered if Richard Rider, Nova himself, would pop-up in the massive Avengers: Endgame finale to avenge his fallen comrades. Now that the film is out, we know that didn’t happen, and when asked about the character earlier this week, Endgame director Joe Russo clarified that he was never even considered.

Comic Book Reviews: Marvel Comic Book Round Up New Comic Series!
With 2016 starting off strong for Marvel, the company soon seemed to lose its way as it headed into the summer season with company wide crossover, Civil War II. Suddenly books which had previously been doing well, started to dip as they were roped into the major event that was not getting the best of reviews. With 2016 starting off strong for Marvel, the company soon seemed to lose its way as it headed into the summer season with company wide crossover, Civil War II. Suddenly books which had previously been doing well, started to dip as they were roped into the major event that was not getting the best of reviews. This December, buckle up because a double dose of Human Rocket is coming to Marvel Now! And here’s your first look inside Nova #1 – the highly anticipated new ongoing series from creators Jeff Loveness (Groot) and Ramon Perez (All-New Hawkeye).
For years, he stood as one of Earth’s greatest heroes. He fought alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers, stopped the Annihilation Wave from eradicating all life in the galaxy, among other great deeds. In the end, he sacrificed his life to save everyone. But now, Richard Rider has returned from the brink, unsure of his place in a universe that has moved on without him. In his absence, a new Nova has stepped up to fill the void he left behind. Can Sam Alexander remind Rich what it means to be the Human Rocket? You better believe it! Sam just has to finish his homework first.

Marvel continues to put their best heroes forward and now 90’s team the New Warriors could be coming to TV with, Squirrel Girl.
Okay I honestly don’t know where to start here. These are two properties from Marvel that I thoroughly enjoy. You’ve got the New Warriors created in 1989 by one of my favorite writers Tom DeFalco. Consisting first of Night Thrasher/Dwayne Taylor the peak human armored suit wearing leader. Namorita the cousin of Sub-Mariner and a human Atlantean hybrid. Nova/Richard Ryder, member of the galaxy police force known as the Nova Corp. Speedball/Bobby Baldwin kinetic field wielding human pinball. Firestar/Angelica Jones mutant who can store and convert energy into heat, light, and radiation. And lastly Marvel Boy/Vance Astrovick mutant telekinetic. Now this team may not see the screen and I’m pretty sure ol’ Dick Ryder died a horrible death in the...

Young super hero teams just work. They have a broad appeal and who doesn’t love the coming of age story. Look at some of the best comic book teams comprised of younger heroes. Teen Titans, Power Pack, New Mutants, Young Justice, Young Avengers you get the idea. With the recent reboot of the Marvel continuity it looks like they’re set to debut a team comprised of some of the newest and youngest members of the Marvel Universe.
Champions is the newest series debuting at Marvel. The book is being written by Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, Original Sin) and art by Humberto Ramos (Impulse, Runaways). Filling out the team will be the younger Cyclops/Scott Summers, Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, Sam Alexander/Nova, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Amadeus Cho/The Hulk, and Viv Vision.

Not only does Steve Orlando’s Midnighter comic star a gay man, it tells blunt, sex-positive stories about that character. The main cast of characters in the upcoming main Avengers comic All-New, All-Different Avengers has only one white dude.
While there is still a lot of work on the road to a utopia of complete social justice, there is a trend of progressivism in some of today’s superhero comics that is impossible to ignore.
“There’s certainly a long way to go, but [the comics industry] is moving in the right direction,” said Orlando via phone interview on Oct. 23.
Books like Batgirl and Cyborg from DC Comics as well as Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Ms. Marvel down the lane at Marvel coalesce to paint a picture of superhero comics that not only includes a solid focus on minority and women characters, but also features progressive themes concerning identity, racial justice, body image and more.

Kevin Feige previously stated that Nova was originally in an earlier draft of Guardians of the Galaxy, but the character was eventually cut from the film to make the cosmic adventure more Star-Lord -centric. Perhaps development on the character progressed far enough for concept art to be produced, as this illustration from Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Movie features a much more detailed version of the standard armor worn by the Corpsman in the film. With James Gunn currently hard at work on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, perhaps Nova makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in that film? But the question is which one - Richard Rider or Sam Alexander? There's a strong theory among the fan communitty that the Nova Corps members in the McU will be organized by rank - Corpsman, Millenians, Denarians, Centurion and Nova Prime; and that the members featured in...

With the Nova Corps set to play a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have assumed for a while that we might see Richard Rider make a cameo appearance or at least get a mention. When Latino-Review reported that the character would indeed be included in the movie earlier this week, they also pointed to Nathan Fillion being a possibility, but cautioned that they couldn't confirm it. Well, director James Gunn has taken to Twitter to reveal that it won't be happening, something which isn't really a huge surprise. After all, Nova is a character who could very easily carry his own movie, so casting the 43 year old Castle star in the role makes pretty much so sense whatsoever. Of course, this could just be misdirection, and with Marvel pushing the younger Sam Alexander Nova, Fillion in the role could then be a possibility! What do you guys think?...

Pretty much out of nowhere, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" cast has expanded to include not one, not two, but (possibly) three members of Marvel Comics' intergalactic force of space cops: the Nova Corps. In addition to the actual members of the Guardians, the cast now includes Academy Award nominees Glenn Close and John C. Reilly, who are reportedly fulfilling roles similar to that of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nick Fury and Phil Coulson for the Nova Corps. In addition to that comes news that Lee Pace's character isn't the main antagonist like originally thought, but will most likely end up being a hero with spin-off possibilities. We have a hunch that this means Pace is playing Nova, Earth's representative in the Corps.

In the Marvel Now to Infinity panel, Marvel’s creators and editors teased big events in the Avengers and Cosmic families of books leading up to their biggest August event Infinity, which will be written by Jonathan Hickman with art by Jim Cheung, Dustin Weaver, and Jerome Opena. Rick Remender teased the return of dead characters Grim Reaper, Daken, Banshee, and Sentry as Horsemen of Apocalypse in Uncanny Avengers 10. This will be a universe and time spanning epic, but it won’t lead into Infinity directly. In contrast, Nick Spencer said Secret Avengers will tell smaller scale stories and continue to develop the new S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Maria Hill and Daisy Johnson as the Secret Avengers members shirk their missions and go into grey areas.

With a new film in development, Marvel has put a lot of stock into Guardians of the Galaxy, one of the strangest, least known superhero teams in the expansive Marvel Universe. It may seem like a risky move, but the fact is, the Guardians are a fascinating group of characters, offering expansive scope to a Marvel team dynamic that reaches far beyond the often earth-based exploits of most other superhero assemblies. The universe is kind of a big place, so it's understandable that it would take more than one intergalactic space police force to protect all of it.
