Award-winning television producer Simon Andreae is joining Range Studios to co-run the non-scripted television studio division alongside Mark Herwick, who launched the studio in late 2021.
Together as co-presidents, Andreae and Herwick will bolster the non-scripted studio’s full production and post-production capabilities globally.
“When Mark first approached me about the role, it was clear that both he and the wider team at Range had managed to combine the passion and energy of a start up with the heft and breadth of a much more mature organization,” Andreae said. “With a stellar client list to help inspire us and an already fascinating slate on which to build, I am looking forward to joining Mark at such an exciting stage in the studio’s evolution and helping expand our overall offering.”

Fremantle has acquired a majority stake in David Glover and Mark Raphael’s factual powerhouse 72 Films, the producers behind “9/11: One Day in America,” “The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty” and “All or Nothing: Arsenal.”
The deal is the latest in a string of acquisitions for the Bertelsmann and Rtl Group-owned Fremantle, which has been expanding aggressively in scripted in the last year. The acquisition of 72 Films is a major coup in the non-scripted arena for the company considering the production company’s excellent track record of documentary hits.
Under the deal, Fremantle says it will provide 72 Films with its “global infrastructure, distribution, and specialist support” across the 27 territories in which it operates. The deal “reaffirms Fremantle’s commitment and ambition to grow its global documentaries proposition working with the very best filmmaking talent,” said the company, which has been pushing into premium documentary in recent years.
The deal was spearheaded by Fremantle U.

Planet Sex, which is one of distributor Fremantle’s flagship shows being shopped at Mipcom, features the model, actress and LGBTQ+ advocate attending masturbation seminars, going to a porn library and being given a blood test during an orgasm.
She described herself as a “prude” who had been taken aback initially by her resistance to these experiments, before giving in to them.

Exclusive: Corie Henson, who runs unscripted for the Turner networks, is leaving the broadcaster. Deadline understands that Henson has decided to exit Warner Bros Discovery as the newly merged company figures out how it will bring together its various unscripted teams.
Henson, who is EVP, Head of Unscripted for TBS, TNT and truTV, joined the company in 2019 from Fox, where she was EVP Alternative Entertainment.

Former Fox reality chief Simon Andreae is developing a show for Channel 4 matchmaking men and women who want to have a child but are not interested in being romantically involved.
The series, which will be made by Andreae’s production outfit Naked Television, is looking to tap into the growing trend of co-parenting, where two people come together in a platonic relationship to conceive — likely through sperm donation — and raise a child.
Working titled Parents To Be, the series will see a number of parenting and family welfare experts matchmaking single men and women who want to be co-parents. It will then follow the prospective pairs through a series of tests designed to assess suitability as co-parents before they make a decision over whether to have a child.
Casting for the series is already well underway, with Naked Television looking to explore what is currently an unregulated phenomenon in the UK.

It would be easy to believe that Fox’s new two-hour, Liev Schreiber-narrated special, Inside the Manson Cult: The Lost Tapes, would simply re-trod old territory. With so much already out there on the man, his followers and their infamous two-day murder spree in Los Angeles in August 1969, does this documentary show anything new, or is it the latest attempt to capitalize on our continued fascination with Manson and the true crime genre?
In some ways, yes, it falls into this pattern. Sure, it tells the usual Manson narrative:...

Fox’s upcoming docu special on Charles Manson, “Inside the Manson Cult: The Lost Tapes,” will depict how a peace-loving commune turned into a group of cold-blooded killers, and Variety has obtained an exclusive first look at the project.
The two-hour true crime special was created from more than 100 hours of footage and will go inside Spahn’s Ranch, where Charles Manson and his followers lived. It features new and archival interviews with former cult members, including Catherine “Gypsy” Share and Dianne “Snake” Lake, to showcase the “family” aspect of his cult.
“Every girl ought to have a daddy like Charles — someone that treasures them as a woman, someone that lets them do things for him,” one woman says.
But the special also explores how that trust that Manson instilled from his followers turned violent. It includes interviews with those involved in the case against Manson, including prosecutor Stephen Kay...

Five aspiring British MCs will move into a residential recording studio to spend 30 days together, writing, performing and ultimately competing to prove that they’re the next rap superstar. Reflecting the new wave of British rap-influenced music that’s conquering the charts, the series follows the MCs as in every episode they write, practice and perform a new track. All the while, they are being trained, mentored and given a crash course in the music business by some of the UK’s biggest rap names.
The U.S. version, which launched in 2016, has been a big success for the A+E Networks brand, scoring the channel’s biggest share of...

Included will be an exclusive prison interview with Bobby Beausoleil, who is serving a life sentence for a murder he committed in association with the Manson family.
Fox said the special was culled from more than 100 hours of footage.
“The Manson murders are some of history’s most shocking and grisly crimes,” said Rob Wade, Fox’s President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials. “The Lost Tapes offers incredible insight into how such unsuspecting people fell under Manson’s demonic spell, and how so many of them committed such heinous acts.”

Lifetime’s The Rap Game is set to be remade in the UK after Simon Andreae’s Naked Entertainment optioned the rights.
Andreae’s FremantleMedia-backed indie is remaking the show as The Grime Game (w/t) and has set it up with an established, as-yet-unannounced British grime star to play the sale role as host Jermaine Dupri does in the U.S. version.
It will see a raft of talented MCs compete for record deal. However, it has no eliminations and is shot like a documentary. The U.S. version, which launched in 2016, has been a big success for the A+E Networks brand, scoring the channel’s biggest share of 18-34 year olds and featuring the likes of Queen Latifah, Ludacris and Usher.
Naked Entertainment’s Director of Development Tom O’Brien said, “Chart topping. Brit award winning. And spun from young people’s real-life stories. Grime is one...

There has not been a global breakout entertainment show since “The Voice,” but after a solid run on the BBC in the U.K., Endemol Shine is hoping “All Together Now” will fit the formats bill. Enhancing its prospects, the BBC has just placed a second season order for the show. Solo singers and groups perform in front of the 100, a group of singers who can join in if they like the performance. The more that join in the higher the contestant’s score.
“Revolution” will also be in the air in Cannes. In the Sky Vision show, contestants take on each other on skateboards, BMXs and in-line skates on amazing purpose-built courses. Fox has piloted it in the U.S. and Sky will be getting behind it at the market.
Another format with U.S. links is “Child Support,” which ABC launched earlier this year. It gets an international bow in Cannes.
