Epic war-time survival tale “The Guns of Muschu” has already assembled a weighty cast ahead of a production start in the first quarter of 2025.
The film is an adaptation of the non-fiction book “The Guns of Muschu,” written by Don Dennis, with an adapted screenplay by Tom Broadhurst and Jack Brislee (“Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan”). The narrative brings to life a pivotal chapter of Australian war history with gritty authenticity, recounting the high body count Operation Copper, a mission during WWII when Australian and New Zealand troops were sent into the jungles of Papua New Guinea.
The objective of the mission was to investigate the Japanese defenses on Muschu Island, capture a Japanese officer for interrogation and discover the location of two naval guns on the island that were protecting a harbor. Eight commandos were landed as part of the operation, but only one survived.

It’s no secret that while these fair British Isles basically invented acting and movie-making, another country out there has a particular knack of making some tremendously emotional and jarringly real films and TV shows… Australia I am looking directly at you!
For years now I have championed some of the titles that come out of Australia (especially on the indie scene) the wealth of talent in front of and behind the camera is incredible. Look no further than TV shows like Underbelly or Wentworth; movies like Two Hands, Babadook, Chopper, Wolf Creek, Ned Kelly or Animal Kingdom to name a few.
Now I get to add West of Sunshine to my list of Aussie movies that more than deserve your attention.
I am a sucker for a movie...

"Are these men bad?" "It's a bit tricky..." Uncork'd Entertainment has just debuted an official Us trailer for a crime drama titled West of Sunshine set in Australia, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Jason Raftopoulos. This premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in 2017, but is just now getting a very small released in the Us. The film is about a father who has less than a day to pay back a debt to a violent loan shark, while his relationship with his young son is tested as his plans fall apart. Damian Hill stars as Jim, along with Ty Perham, Kat Stewart, Arthur Angel, Eliza D'Souza, and Kaarin Fairfax. This already opened in Australia last year and is heading to VOD here soon, for those interested in it. One of the quotes mentions Animal Kingdom, which is an exceptional Oz crime drama, but I don't think this one is that good.

Snowtown director Justin Kurzel and screenwriter Shaun Grant are collaborating on an Australian bushranger feature.
Grant is writing True History of the Kelly Gang, adapted from the Peter Carey novel, a co-production between Porchlight.s Liz Watts and the UK's Daybreak Pictures.
The novel is seen through Kelly.s eyes, scribbling his narrative on scraps of paper in semi-literate but descriptive prose as he fled from the police.
To his pursuers, Kelly was a monstrous criminal, a thief and a murderer. To many ordinary Australians, the bushranger was a hero, defying the authority of the English to control their lives.
Joe Penhall was listed as the writer when the project received development funding from Screen Australia.
Heath Ledger played the bushranger in Gregor Jordan's Ned Kelly in 2003 and Mick Jagger starred in Tony Richardson's Ned Kelly in 1970. The first screen version was The Story of the Kelly Gang in...

Red Dog (2011) Kriv Stenders’ “Red Dog” is supposedly based on a true story, but rather you believe it or not, I don’t suppose it matters. The film itself is good enough on its own that I didn’t bother to doubt the story’s authenticity. What matters is that “Red Dog” is one heck of a loveable tale about a stray dog in 1970s Australia, that somehow ends up the communal pet for a disparate group of miners working at some faraway, isolated town that can’t even be called a proper town. The film features an ensemble cast, but if you were to demand I pinpoint a star, I’d say it’s American Josh Lucas (“The Lincoln Lawyer”) as a world traveler who becomes Red Dog’s master. Though for my money, it’s John Batchelor as the burly on the outside but secretly soft on the...

Director Kriv Stenders Australian produced family feature "Red Dog" recently passed the $20 million mark at the Australian box office.
Adapted by screenwriter Daniel Taplitz, from "Red Dog", the best-selling novel by author Louis De Bernières ("Captain Corelli's Mandolin") the film follows the true story of 'Red Dog', a nomadic Australian sheep dog, found roaming the outback in search of his master, before returning to a mining town to inspire the locals :
"...in West Australia during the early 1970's, 'Thomas' (Luke Ford) walks into a bar where the locals are looking after a sick dog. He is told by 'Jack' (Noah Taylor) that this is no ordinary dog, but the great 'Red Dog' (played by Koko).

'Chronicles Of Narnia 3' movie delivered great action & special effects. Fox in association with Walden Media released their new action, adventure flick "Chronicles Of Narnia 3: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it,and it delivered some pretty good action and special effects, especially towards the end. The movie stars: Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Ben Barnes, Will Poulter, Gary Sweet, Bruce Spence, Arthur Angel, Shane Rangi, and Liam Neeson. "Chronicles of Narnia 3: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" revolved around characters Lucy,Edmond, and Eustace as they took another trip back to Narnia. This time they entered Narnia through a painting that became real and swallowed them in via lots of water. Eustace was their pesky cousin who had never visited Narnia before,so he passed at first. It was pretty funny.
