"I wrote that movie when I was 22 and when I wrote it, everyone told me, 'This will never get made, that is a piece of s*** and this is a terrible script,'" Eli Roth said to Collider in 2015 of his debut feature film "Cabin Fever." Yet here we are, a full 20 years after the movie was released in the fall of 2003. Not only did the movie become a hit in its own right, but it spawned several sequels and even a remake in 2016. "Now I can say the script that everyone hated I can say was so good they made it twice [Laughs]," Roth quipped in the same interview.
Roth has reason to be a little bit smug about the whole thing.

Alec Baldwin is making headlines following the publication of his memoir, “Nevertheless.” In the book, the actor claims that he was not aware Nikki Reed was only 16 when they made the film “Mini’s First Time,” in which Baldwin’s character has an affair with his stepdaughter, played by Reed. According to Baldwin, he was so upset that he “flipped out” on the producers of the film.

The battle between Alec Baldwin and producer Dana Brunetti continues as the two engaged in a full-on Twitter war over Baldwin’s claims in his new memoir. “You lied, face it, admit it and move on. I’m not afraid of bullies like you,” Brunetti tweeted Wednesday, which prompted Baldwin to ask for the release of “scenes involving physical contact with minors.” In Baldwin’s new memoir “Nevertheless,” the actor claimed he didn’t know his co-star Nikki Reed was under age when he filmed the indie movie “Mini’s First Time” with her in 2006. The movie’s producers include Kevin Spacey,...

A Hollywood producer has accused Alec Baldwin of lying in his new memoir, claiming the actor was well aware that Nikki Reed, his costar in the R-rated 2006 indie film Mini’s First Time, was underage while filming.
In the movie, Baldwin played a man having an affair with his step-daughter, played by Reed.
“I was 47, and it never occurred to me to ask how old Nikki Reed was,” Baldwin wrote in Nevertheless, released Tuesday. “When I found out, just as we finished, that she was 17, I flipped out on the producers, who had told me something different.”

The second Cthulhu figure in a three-part series from Warpo will be available this fall. Also: a trailer for The Inhabitants, first details on IFC Midnight's acquisition of Cabin Fever, El Rey Network's Stephen King marathon, and Last Shift on Blu-ray.
Warpo's Cthulhu Figure Series: Press Release: "Chicago, Il (September 9, 2015): Warpo, creators of the Legends of Cthulhu action figures, today released part two of three of Cthulhu: The Great Old One, their retro commercial series for the forthcoming 12” Cthulhu figure.
In keeping with the company’s method manufacturing, the process of development by which Team Warpo creates everything with the mindset and methods of the late 1970s to mid-1980s, the commercial series was created with the look and feel of being an “uploaded artifact” from the era – a rip from an old VHS tape that was used over and over again to capture storylines for the sandbox adventures of childhood.

Inane movie remakes have started to resemble Gus Van Sant’s disastrous 1998 shot-for-shot version of Psycho. Taking a cracking original and deciding to film it exactly the same way, you might expect that the result would be a simulacra of the first, albeit with different actors and contemporary fashion. Alas, the Vince Vaughn-starrer failed at every hurdle – but mainly from a lack of charisma between any of the characters.
So, it was interesting to note that Eli Roth had boarded a remake late last year as an executive producer, which proposed to do exactly the same thing. Except, the film in question was Roth’s own horror breakout Cabin Fever. In an unusual twist of events, Roth enthused about the movie then and he’s still excited about it now.
Travis Zariwny (Intruder) directed the remake, along with Evan Astrowsky (who also produced the original film), Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros.

It was 2002's indie horror tale "Cabin Fever" that announced the arrival on the scene of filmmaker Eli Roth. Roth's subsequent two "Hostel" films earned a reputation for torture porn and maybe taking the sadism too far.
Yet "Cabin Fever" still holds a decent reputation for not just the ick factor - such as the infamous leg shaving scene - but its absurdist comedy moments as well. It was a refreshing film in that there wasn't a killer stalking this group of teens in the woods but rather a really nasty flesh-eating virus.
With two forgotten Dtv sequels under its belt, Armory Films and Pelican Point Media decided earlier this year to reboot the property. Today, The Wrap reports that Eli Roth is returning for the new "Cabin Fever" and will serve as executive producer.
There's more though, it turns out the reboot will be a direct remake with Roth...

Eli Roth’s original Cabin Fever is only twelve years old. I remember going to the cinema to see it and being bowled over by its repugnant gore and frank nudity; it possessed all the key elements required to become a truly great horror classic. While there’s no definite time span one can use to determine the transformation from ‘awesome new gorefest’ to ‘cult horror fave,’ isn’t twelve years a bit too soon?
Apparently not. Today, Armory Films, Cassian Elwes, and Contend announced their plans to remake Roth’s body horror. This reboot-remake will be shot “from the exact same script that Roth directed 13 years ago, as opposed to going through a long, delayed studio development process.” Heading up production is Evan Astrowsky (who also produced the original film), Chris Lemole and Tim Zajaros.

Eli Roth’s 2002 horror comedy Cabin Fever is getting a remake, with the original movie’s writer-director Roth returning as executive producer. He won’t have to do much writing this time, though: The plan is to use the exact same Roth-Randy Pearlstein script that was shot in 2002, and with a cast already moved in, it puts the project on the fast track. Shooting begins this week in Portland, Or.
The new version will star Teen Wolf‘s Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker. Travis Zariwny (Intruder) is directing. Update: I’ve just been informed by a colleague that at least one of the aforementioned sequels is still slated for production, and release. There isn’t a lot of info available at this time, so we’ll keep you posted. Hopefully this is true.
The good news is, that a “prequel” to Cabin Fever is hitting VOD outlets in less than a month. The bad news is, Cabin Fever 2 left such a bad taste in some viewers’ mouths, that I have no idea if there is even any public interest in such a thing. I was one of the ones that was initially shocked by the badness of Cabin Fever 2, because it had a young but strong cast, and one of my favorite up-and-coming directors attached to the project. We don't quite know what to think about this news. Back in May of last year, word was that Cabin Fever: Patient Zero would be rebooting the franchise and kicking off a new trilogy. Now things seem to have changed...
Bloody Disgusting is reporting that sources at Cannes have told them that Indomina will instead put a remake of Eli Roth’s 2002 love-it-or-hate-it original Cabin Fever into production now that Patient Zero is arriving on VOD June 26th and in theatres on August 1st via Rlj/Image Entertainment.
Evolution Entertainment, which produced the first three Saw films as well as Dead Silence and Death Sentence, will be producing the remake with Cassian Elwes and Evan Astrowsky. It's doubtful Roth will lend much more than his name to this one.
The original, Roth's directorial debut, is an offbeat horror tale about a group of five college friends on vacation at a remote mountain cabin.

What do you get when you cross chemical waste with beavers? The answer is the horror-comedy Zombeavers – and Hollywood’s latest viral phenomenon. The trailer for this film about (you guessed it!) zombified beavers has racked up almost 2 million views since it debuted a couple of weeks back. “It’s cool to get the validation,” says first-time director Jordan Rubin, who co-penned the film with regular writing partners Al and Jon Kaplan. “Once something starts getting up in the hits it’s interesting to see how people go, ‘Oh, we might have something here.”

Zombeavers. It’s all in the title. And given that such a title excites us here at Dread Central (but not in a necrophilia-bestiality kind of way, we promise), we figured it was high time to sit down with director Jordan Rubin to get the skinny on his upcoming horror-comedy feature.
Starring Cortney Palm (Sushi Girl), Hutch Dano (Zeke and Luther), Peter Gilroy, Rachel Melvin (Dumb and Dumber To), Jake Weary, Lexi Atkins, and Bill Burr, Zombeavers was written by Jon Kaplan, Al Kaplan, and director Rubin.
It revolves around three college girls who go on a carefree vacation of drinking games, topless sunbathing, and sexual exploration, only to find that their frolicking fun comes to an abrupt end when toxic zombie beavers try to eat them.

Snow. Personally speaking, I hate it. Yeah, it looks pretty coming down and when there's a fresh blanket of it covering your city, but try shoveling that shit for 30 years and then get back to me. As if there wasn't enough reason to hate it, you can now throw an alien invasion into the mix.
According to Variety, Benderspink and Evan Astrowsky have come on board to produce science-fiction horror vehicle Snowfall with Clark Baker directing. The story, written by Brooks Elms and Glenn Sanders, takes place during a storm of the century blizzard and tracks a diverse group of Chicago residents trapped on the El Train, only to discover the storm is just a part of a cover for an alien invasion.
Baker also directed the short film Vessel, which Paramount Insurge acquired last year and set up as a feature project.

For fans of the 2002 cult horror hit Cabin Fever, two things are for sure: never thinking about the word “pancakes” in the same way again, and preparing for a disappointing franchise. A few years after its less satisfying sequel Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever, those expectations will be tested with not one, but two prequels.
Cabin Fever: Patient Zero and its follow-up, Cabin Fever: Outbreak, reveal the origins of the virus that plagues unsuspecting campers in director Eli Roth’s original movie. Both films will be shot back-to-back, with scribe Jake Wade Wall (The Hitcher) writing Patient Zero, and screenwriting team Adam and Deborah Marcus taking on Outbreak.
Filmed on location in the Dominican Republic, Patient Zero will introduce the disease to some cruise ship passengers stranded on a research island in the Caribbean, an appropriate premise considering the recent cruise ship mishaps going on in the news lately – kudos...
