Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere has signed on to star in a biopic of Amanda Knox, the Us student convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy according to the BBC. The killer, nicknamed “Foxy Knox” by the press, was found guilty alongside boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito of the sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007 following a trial sensationalised by the media.
The script is to be penned by “CSI New York” and “Law and Order” regular scribe, Wendy Battles and the film is expected to air directly on television on the Us TV channel Lifetime next year.
The pair were jailed along with drug dealer Rudy Guede who received 16 years, after Knox aroused the suspicions of authorities following the body’s discovery. Originally the murder had been staged as a fake-break in by the trio, who are thought to have engaged in sex attack against Meredith before finally cutting her throat.

20-year-old American student Knox was sentenced to 26 years in jail in December for murder and sexual violence against her British roommate Kercher in a house share in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and small-time drug dealer Rudy Guede were also convicted for being in on the assault and killing.
The trial caused much media debate, especially in the U.S., about the fairness of the Italian legal system. Wendy Battles ("CSI: NY") is penning the script and the project will premiere on Lifetime next year.

Hayden Panettiere, the pint-sized actress best known for starring in Sci-fi series Heroes, is set to play jailed murderer Amanda Knox.
Earlier this year, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in jail for the murder of her British housemate Meredith Kercher.
The film is set to air on an American television channel next year, and the Kercher family is said to be unhappy that a Hollywood version of the murder is being made.
The family’s lawyer Francesco Maresca said that ‘It is inopportune as the trial is still ongoing with two further appeals.’
A media-storm followed the 2007 murder case, and Knox’s erratic behavior and promiscuous past led to her being nicknamed, ‘Foxy Knoxy’.
Kercher was a student living in Perugia, Italy when Knox and her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are said to have taken part in a sex attack that ended with Kercher's throat being cut with a six-inch kitchen knife.
