- Mel Berns was born on September 27, 1897 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Mel is known for Dangerous Mission (1954), His Kind of Woman (1951) and Armored Car Robbery (1950). Mel died on May 7, 1977 in Hollywood, California, USA.
- During his tenure as Head of Makeup at RKO, Mel Berns commanded an entire building and had 33 hairdressers and makeup men working under him. In 1939 he brought in his old pal, Perc Westmore, to create the prodigious prosthetics for Charles Laughton in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". Neither of them received an on screen credit for this.
