Just in time for the Cannes announcements, Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, which debuted at last year’s event, is headed to U.S. theaters. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, the Amazon Studios feature had a solid opening in the U.K. last month. The title headlines a fairly wide pack of newcomers this weekend, including A24’s Lean On Pete by British filmmaker Andrew Haigh and starring Steve Buscemi, Chloë Sevigny and Charlie Plummer. Great Point Media/Paladin are launching Where Is Kyra? with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kiefer Sutherland in roles the director, Andrew Dosunmu, swears fans of the two will be surprised by. And Well Go USA is opening Tribeca ’17 thriller, The Endless in New York before heading to L.A. next week.
Also opening in limited release is Warner Bros.’ Pandas. Other titles making bows this weekend include Sweet Country with Sam Neil and Bryan Bishop as well as Shout!

Reviews are in for “Thor: Ragnarok” — and so far, 36 critics who reviewed the film love it so much that it’s hit a 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. And so far, there’s just one negative review (which knocked “Ragnarok” off its previous 100% perch). “It’s an enthusiastic, hilarious reboot of the idea of what a Marvel movie can actually be, resulting in an effervescent, delightfully self-aware ride that was the most fun I’d had in a superhero movie in years,” The Verge’s Bryan Bishop wrote. “Who knew a ‘Thor’ movie could be this wonderful?” added Uproxx’s Mike Ryan.

Both Kathleen Kennedy and the official "Star Wars" Twitter account has confirmed a long standing rumor - that the upcoming spin-off film "Star Wars: Rogue One" will be a direct prequel to the original 1977 "Star Wars". Kennedy made the announcement at the "Star Wars Celebration" convention in Anaheim two hours ago.
Set between "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope," the film will follow a group of rebels banding together to steal plans for the original Death Star. Felicity Jones remains the only confirmed actor at this point in the film, she'll play a Rebel soldier.
The stand alone spin-off films, of which at least three are planned, have also scored a new moniker - the "Star Wars Anthology" films and will include 'Anthology' in the title to differentiate them from the main series.
