“Shōgun” might be creating some drama at the Emmys.
Multiple industry insiders tell Variety that FX, the heavyweight contender in the Primetime Emmy race for outstanding limited or anthology series, is considering a bold move: shifting its submission for “Shōgun” to the drama series categories this year.
This strategic repositioning hints at the likely return of the protagonist, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Hiroyuki Sanada). Created by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, the historical epic, celebrated for its intricate storytelling and marvelous world-building achievements, will now vie for accolades against heavy hitters like Netflix’s concluding saga “The Crown,” Apple’s intense office drama “The Morning Show,” and Prime Video’s gripping action video game adaptation “Fallout.”
FX declined to comment.
“Shōgun” brings to life James Clavell’s 1975 novel set in 1600 Japan, a period dominated by daimyōs and samurais. The narrative centers on the fateful encounter between the cunning English navigator John Blackthorne,...

The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).
With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.
In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!
The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

Actor Ryan Gosling has an eclectic set of movies in his filmography, which has made him a versatile actor. Though the actor had his breakthrough with the romance flick The Notebook, he has branched out to action, comedy, sci-fi, and drama. Gosling was recently nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
One of Gosling’s most underrated performances is the Shane Black-directed black comedy The Nice Guys. The neo-noir comedy sees him play a detective in the ‘70s along with Russell Crowe. Though the film is a cult classic now, it was a commercial failure. Gosling mentioned that the success of the animated movie The Angry Birds Movie ruined The Nice Guys’ chance for a sequel.

Ryan Gosling is reflecting on the reason he believes the 2016 action-comedy The Nice Guys didn’t score a sequel.
The Barbie actor told ComicBook.com, in an interview published online Tuesday, that there likely won’t be a follow-up because the original movie was overwhelmed by The Angry Birds Movie at the box office during its debut weekend.
“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” Gosling explained. “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.” The Angry Birds Movie 2 premiered in 2019.
And the Fall Guy star was right, as the Shane Black-directed film had a tough battle during its opening weekend. It was not only up against Angry Birds but also Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Additionally, Captain America: Civil War was in its third weekend in theaters, so Marvel fans also played a factor.

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe starred in The Nice Guys in 2016, but the movie didn’t get a sequel despite its positive reviews.
In a recent interview, the Barbie actor says he thinks the reason the action comedy film directed by Shane Black didn’t get a sequel was the opening box office numbers.
“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” Gosling told Comic Book in an interview. “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”
The Angry Birds Movie had an opening weekend of $38M, easily topping The Nice Guys, which generated only $11.2M at the box office. On the same weekend, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opened to a $21.7M weekend. The films also had to fend off Marvel fans, with Captain America: Civil War earning $32.9M in its third weekend.

On the same weekend, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opened to a $21.7M weekend. The films also had to fend off Marvel fans, with Captain America: Civil War earning $32.9M in its third weekend.

True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Keanu Reeves has been a prolific movie star since the 90s and has been part of some of the most groundbreaking action films that Hollywood has seen. Films like Point Break, Speed, The Matrix, and the John Wick franchise have made him a bonafide action hero unafraid of getting his hands dirty and doing most of his stunts.
Keanu Reeves in 1991’s Point Break
Regarding his personal life, Reeves has always maintained a low profile. Since his former girlfriend Jennifer Lyme’s tragic death in 2001, the actor has taken a long time to find the one for him. Fellow Travelers stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey waded into the sex-scenes debate at Deadline Contenders TV event Saturday. The actors got intimate on the set as characters Hawk and Tim in the Showtime limited series based on Thomas Mallon’s book that follows their love affair in the 1950s.
“I just feel like the characters were never the same after the scenes as they were before, which to me is always a sign that it’s integral to the story,” said Bomer, who plays Hawk. “The way they connected was so reflective of their societal conditions. It was therapeutic. It’s not always the most comfortable thing, but it was always an extension of their relationship.”
Bailey, who plays Tim, said the characters could not be open about their sexuality in the ‘50s. So their love scenes became the only place they truly could be themselves.

After a dramatic exit from The Daily Show late last year, at least one piece of Roy Wood Jr.’s next act is coming into focus.
Deadline reports the comedian and former Tds correspondent has joined the cast of Jonah Hill’s new movie “Outcome.” The Apple Studios dark comedy, directed and co-written by Hill, will star Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and Hill himself.
It was last October that Wood announced he was leaving The Daily Show, where he had served as a correspondent since 2015. The move came as Tds continued its long process of finding a new permanent host to replace Trevor Noah, who left in 2022.
Explaining his departure in a recent interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee, Wood stated that he’d lost faith that there were any paths to success left for a show that didn’t have a plan amid an industry that’s in crisis.

Showtime’s “Fellow Travelers” depicts a sweeping, complex romance across the ages in one of the most acclaimed pieces of television this year. Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey are the couple in question and both men are at the top of their game here.
Bomer has always been a commanding performer, capturing viewers’ attention every moment he’s on-screen. As the closeted Hawk Fuller, he delivers a performance of vulnerability and restraint. Critics agree, it’s some of his best work.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Bomer and Bailey deserve all the credit coming their way for building such palpable chemistry…. Bomer’s stoic restraint proves his strongest attribute. Hawk, quite literally, is cleaner cut than a Kennedy (Bobby makes a brief appearance), and Bomer wears his classic Wasp exterior like a slightly too-snug Halloween costume. That’s the premise of White Collar, which is now streaming on Netflix. Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) is a lifelong con artist, thief, and forger — one of the highest caliber. No art, antiquity, jewel, or designer suit is safe when he’s on the loose. He evaded capture for many years but was finally detained by FBI special agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay). When Neal’s girlfriend, Kate Moreau (Alexandra Daddario), visits him after three years in prison to inform him that she’s leaving him, he hatches a plan to break out and convince her to stay.
Agent Burke catches Neal yet again. While he’s being taken back to prison,...

Last year was a standout year for animation, and 2024 is already shaping up to be another banger. While a majority of the high-profile animation releases are due out later this summer, the first quarter of 2024 has already been promising. We at /Film are constantly singing the praises of animation as a medium, and doing our best to course-correct the ignorant idea that animation is only for children. Burbank, CA — Season 4: DC’s unlikeliest group of heroes, the Doom Patrol, are ready to save the world… kind of. After suffering horrific accidents that gave them superhuman abilities, Cliff/Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Larry/Negative Man (Matt Bomer), Rita/Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby), Jane/Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero), and Vic/Cyborg (Joivan Wade) were each left scarred, disfigured, and ostracized – until mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) brings the outcasts together to treat and protect them. Gritty and irreverent, Doom Patrol follows this part support group, part superhero team as they take on evil, otherworldly forces determined to destroy humankind – even if it wants nothing to do with them.

Jim Carrey’s The Mask was, is, and always will be one of the most goated comedy films of all time. Thanks to the lead actor’s undeniable charisma, Stanley Ipkiss found a home in the hearts of all comedy enthusiasts and we are yet to find a character that can kick him out. While Jim Carrey’s performance was undoubtedly exceptional, his chemistry with Cameron Diaz was another reason why we all love The Mask so much.
Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994)
However, casting Cameron Diaz as the beloved Tina Carlyle was no easy task. The team had to go through many actresses before finally finding what they needed.
