It’s hard knowing what to make of Kevin Macdonald’s High & Low: John Galliano. It concerns the controversial fashion designer, his unexpected rise (“the son of a plumber” from Gibraltar), his stratospheric success, his catastrophic fall. For those who may not know: Galliano became the creative director of Christian Dior Se in the mid-90s (Givenchy before that) and developed a style that was both celebrated and imitated by the industry at large. The man himself was regarded as a genius in his own time, and he worked himself (and his right-hand man Steven Robinson) to the bone. His runways were an event unto themselves. The word “revolutionary” was apparently used. Then, in 2011, Galliano’s career came to a screeching halt when he was caught on video at a Paris bar badgering fellow patrons with racist and antisemitic hate speech. He was swiftly fired from his position and arrested for the remarks.

"I'm going to tell you everything." Mubi has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled High & Low - John Galliano, arriving to watch in select US theaters this March. The film originally premiered at the prestigious 2023 Telluride Film Festival last fall, and it also played at the Zurich, Hamburg, London, and Rome Film Festivals last year. From acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, the doc examines the rapid ascent, fall from grace, and journey forward for controversial fashion designer John Galliano. In 2011, his career abruptly ended after being caught on video using shocking antisemitic and racist insults. Macdonald's film investigates the multiple facets & contradictions of Galliano's character and context, including decades of industry pressure and drug & alcohol addiction, that surrounded his downfall and recovery. Featuring conversations with: Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron, Anna Wintour, Edward Enninful, Boris Cyrulnik, Hamish Bowles, and Sidney Toledano, among others.

Social media critics may have carped over Varun Dhawan’s antics with Gigi Hadid at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (Nmacc) Day 2 after party – the actor claims it was all planned – but they just loved Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra reprising their ‘Gallan Goodiyan’ song from Zoya Akhtar’s 2015 romance drama ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’.
Priyanka, who’s awaiting the release of the sci-fi action drama series ‘Citadel’ later this month, looked clearly out of touch with Bollywood moves – she was in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ when Ranveer and she were much younger. Nonetheless, she sportingly tried to keep pace with Ranveer Singh, who was his usual sprightly self.
At the end of the performance, Ranveer planted a kiss on his old co-star, who’s now an international celebrity.

Oh, I'm sorry, did you think the feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift disappeared when Calvin Harris did? As much as you might've wanted it to (or not, I don't judge anyone's propensity for drama), the ceaseless tension between the two pop stars was recently cranked up a notch thanks to the "Chained to the Rhythm" singer's interview in Vogue's May issue. While Katy, along with other female celebrities like Beyoncé and Lena Dunham, vocally supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign, one famous face was notably absent from the political fray: Taylor Swift. Lena, a close friend of Taylor's, actually defended her pal's notorious silence at the time by saying "everyone has to do it their way." It's safe to say Katy doesn't agree with that sentiment, which Vogue's Hamish Bowles highlighted in their chat: "I don't think you have to shout it from the rooftops," she says...

Perry adds, "It’s not easy loving me."

While the fashion industry usually takes itself a little too seriously, Fashionista cooked up a silly story involving Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's adorable little lady.

Bradley Cooper and Suki Waterhouse made for quite a stylish sight when they attended a London Fashion Week party on Monday alongside Bradley's stylish costar Sienna Miller and her main man, Tom Sturridge. The group was spotted chatting and laughing as they left a dinner at J. Sheekey. They were joined for their swanky meal by Anna Wintour and Vogue Editor at Large Hamish Bowles. Bradley and Suki didn't stop their Fashion Week partying after dinner as they dropped by another bash later that night where Suki met up with her model friend Cara Delevingne and her sister, Poppy Delevingne. While Bradley has been busy with filming for most of the year, he has been taking a backseat to his model girlfriend over the past few days while she works during her hometown's week of fashionable events.

No one has ever reviewed one of my parties before but, just like a movie, if you plan to then at least stay until the end
I have always enjoyed Hadley Freeman's articles, but I was surprised by her piece about our Bafta awards afterparty at the Rosewood (The award for the best afterparty goes to ... 18 February). I have been reviewed and criticised for many movies in the past, but no one has ever reviewed one of my parties … or not, at least, before they have even gotten started properly.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the fun photos of Oprah, Naomi Campbell, Rita Ora and my wife, Georgina, at the party featured in her article pose a strange juxtaposition to the less-than-enthusiastic description her words gave. "For about 45 minutes, the only people in the enormous dining room are myself and a regiment of bossy PR women in tiny black dresses,...

On its release in 1998, the Guardian hailed John Maybury's biopic of Francis Bacon as a 'brilliantly sustained imagining'. Read Richard Williams' full review below
I came out of John Maybury's Love Is the Devil, which is rather coyly subtitled "Study for a portrait of Francis Bacon", feeling I'd never seen a film that makes such direct and illuminating connection with the eye of an artist. On the other hand, I didn't know Francis Bacon, so I can't tell whether the story Maybury tells us is true, in the literal sense. That bothers me. But if you want a brilliantly sustained imagining of how, according to some of the best available evidence, Bacon saw his world, and how he rendered that vision on to canvas, then Love Is the Devil is a very remarkable film indeed.

Sarah Jessica Parker threw on a vintage Oscar de la Renta ball gown, paired with a cardigan, to attend last night's Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence gala at NYC's Waldorf-Astoria. The event was held to honor legendary New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham, who was the subject of the 2010 documentary Bill Cunningham New York. Bill was there to receive his praise, some of which was provided by Vogue's Anna Wintour and Hamish Bowles. In addition to honoring Bill, who spoke about his lengthy career, the bash raised $1.5 million for the music education programs at Carnegie Hall. Arts education is a cause Sjp is particularly passionate about. She announced yesterday that she, along with other celebs like Kerry Washington and Forest Whitaker, are teaming up with President Obama to help increase student achievement at underperforming schools in the Us by donating funds to increase access to arts programs. Sarah Burton lied to Anna Wintour about designing Duchess Catherine's wedding dress. The Alexander McQueen designer's commission to create the stunning lace gown was shrouded in such secrecy that she couldn't tell her own seamstresses and Sarah even had to lie to the legendary Us Vogue editor about the dress. Sarah also told her employees at Alexander McQueen they were working on her wedding dress inspired autumn/winter 2011 collection rather than what would become the most talked about dress of last year. Us Vogue editor-at-large, Hamish Bowles, told Grazia magazine: 'The white and ivory dresses in this collection were created as a cover for The White Dress Project - namely the wedding dress that Sarah Burton created...

Victoria Beckham sat down for an interview with Vogue's Hamish Bowles and a photo by Craig McDean for the magazine's April issue. She opened up about her intense work schedule designing her namesake collections, shared that "it was love at first sight" with husband David, and explained how she got back into shape after the birth of her daughter Harper last year. Here's more from Victoria Beckham in Vogue: On bringing Harper to work: "We get a lot done in our meetings, so it’s good to have a baby around so we can have some fun." On getting back into shape after giving birth to Harper: "I worked out a lot. I ran a lot. I did it six days a week. I become quite obsessive when I get into something." On David staying to play with the La Galaxy: "I’m definitely a glass-is-always-half-full, not half-empty, kind of person.

Victoria Beckham's was one of many fashionable faces, including Hamish Bowles and Anna Wintour, seen at the launch of the UK's new "Great Britain" campaign at NYC's Grand Central Shuttle Station today. Victoria wore a monochromatic look from her Victoria Beckham Collection, which she showed at Fashion Week on Sunday. She was back in designer mode this afternoon when she presented her lower priced line, Victoria by Victoria Beckham. David wasn't spotted in the front row this time, though he did support her by snapping pictures during her show over the weekend. Victoria and David celebrated with lunch at Balthazar, where Harper joined them. They kept the fun coming last night, when David captured a silly shot of Victoria with his huge H&M underwear billboard and posted the caption, "So proud of my wife taking #Nyfw by the balls." Donald Trump photo by Michele Sandberg.Hair mogul Donald Trump has ended up on the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps cutting-room floor! Unlike cameos by Vogue editor at large Hamish Bowles, economist Nouriel Roubini, billionaire Warren Buffett, and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, among many others, a scene featuring the Apprentice magnate did not make it into the final film. “I only cut it because it was distracting,” said director Oliver Stone, who promised the sequence would be included on the DVD. “He was at the end of the movie and all of sudden, ‘Hey, there’s Donald Trump!’ Structurally, I think we put him in too late.” According to the New York Post, the cameo in question took place at a barbershop, with Michael Douglas’s Gordon Gekko and Trump exchanging revelations about their follicular foibles. However, compared with many of the other cameos in the film, the scene sounds relatively inconspicuous.

From Jenny's career aspirations to Serena's brief stint as a model and the overall stylishness of the cast, the worlds of Gossip Girl and fashion are often linked.
This takes it to a new level, however.
The fashion bible Vogue's big shopping event Fashion's Night Out will be the guest star on two episodes of Gossip Girl this fall, the New York Post reports this week.
Vogue editors Hamish Bowles and Lauren Santo Domingo were shot yesterday in fictional - but probably true to life scenes - in which they prepare for the night.
In real life, the event is set for September 10. How do you think they will tie this in with our favorite Upper East Siders? Comments and theories are welcome.

The ‘Gossip Girl’ star hits the waves for the June issue of the magazine!
Blake Lively shows off her tanned and toned bikini body with a sexy surfing spread in the June issue of Vogue! The 22-year-old Gossip Girl star talks with the mag about preparing for her role as ultravillian Carol Ferris in the upcoming Green Lantern, which she is currently filming with Ryan Reynolds. Her training has included working with Cirque de Soleil trainers as well as the team that works on the Bond films! “I’m 40 feet in the air, spiraling around. That’s the best workout you can ever do because it’s all core,” she says. “You do that for ten minutes and you should see your body the next day!” No wonder you look so amazing Blake!
Do not expect the young beauty icon to begin any sort of crazy baby food or Gwyneth style diet anytime soon though.

Jaded New Yorkers turned into star-struck wannabes when given a chance to appear in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps." Peggy Siegal, the publicist on Oliver Stone's original movie 23 years ago, writes in Avenue how her society friends jostled to be extras on the new film and elbowed for speaking roles. Eagle-eyed viewers will spot (unless they're cut) Kelly Klein, Julia Koch, Donald Marron, Joan Juliet Buck, Jean Pigozzi, Yanna Avis, Felicia Taylor, Hamish Bowles and Amy Fine Collins. If it’s the Sunday-night kick-off of Fashion Week and you’re out and about like yours truly, then the revelry begins with the queen of nightlife, Susanne Bartsch, and her coterie of “dragarellas” at the Varick Street nightclub Greenhouse. There you might have witnessed Vogue’s fashion majordomo, Hamish Bowles, holding court far past his bedtime. Mr. Bowles strolled in after one a.m., nattily attired, as always, in one of his many bespoke chalk-stripe suits. G.W. pondered, How was the Diane von Furstenberg dinner party? (The cognoscenti know that the first Sunday night of every N.Y.C. Fashion Week, D.V.F. shifts the season into high gear with her ultra-exclusive dinner party, catered by Indochine, at her “MePa” atelier on West 14th Street.) “It was absolutely fantastic!” Mr. Bowles said. Unsurprised by this news, G.W. steered the discussion to any recent fashion shows he’s liked.

Tinsley Mortimer laughs in the face of danger. Photograph by Kevin Tachman/ BackstageAT.com Okay, so it wasn’t a real conservatory. It was part of a show room in the gorgeously designed studio of interior decorator William Sofield. And Tins wasn’t using the python as a weapon. The sweet, reptile-loving socialite was just channeling her inner Britney by draping the albino snake over the nape of her neck. The serpentine interior of Sofield’s workspace was dimly lit and smoky. When I saw Mortimer in a red dress, I couldn’t help but think of Clue’s Miss Scarlet. Little did I know, she'd dressed the part for The Heart Truth. Mortimer is tired of keeping things low key. “I have my TV show, High Society, coming out on March 10th on the CW, so I’m excited,” plugged the party-hopping Columbia graduate. “From Thanksgiving up until now...

She struck a pose alongside fellow designer Eva Mendes, while Dita von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood apparently managed to avoid an awkward run-in. Gucci model James Franco took a break from his other Big Apple activities to smile for the cameras next to the house's designer, Frida Giannini, and Mary J. Blige. Mary and Frida were together earlier in the day to open the new Mary J. Lindsay Lohan and Taylor Momsen. From PatrickMcMullan.com. Who and what were up and down last night and why. ↑ The Starting Line: Before party-hopping, the city's most invited headed to the Museum of Modern Art to pay their respects to Linda Evangelista as she hosted a celebration of the new Ron Arad retrospective. Anouk Lepere, Franca Sozzani, Hamish Bowles, Yigal Azrouël, and Rachel Zoe took the opportunity to get a little culture (and a bit of a buzz) before sowing their wild oats elsewhere. ↓ Little Style, Less Substance: For the third night in a row, crowds gathered to catch Lady Gaga perform as she headlined Out magazine's party at the Box. We picked up on the drill earlier this week: super-short sets accented by super-revealing ensembles. We'll pass.
