Amazon has renewed its rotoscope animation series Undone for a second season and inked an overall deal with co-creator Kate Purdy.
Undone follows the cosmic journey of a young woman named Alma (Rosa Salazar), who treks across time, space, and beyond to solve the mystery of her father’s death.
It is the first episodic television project to use rotoscoping animation, a technique that involves animators tracing over motion picture footage. It was used in A Scanner Darkly, the 2006 Keanu Reeves film based on the writings of Philip K. Dick.
Undone‘s first season has scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and will return to Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. The show is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Tornante Productions.
Purdy, who co-created Undone with Raphael Bob-Waksberg, has signed an exclusive deal with Amazon. Details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Netflix will not be picking up new seasons of D.C. drama series Designated Survivor starring Kiefer Sutherland, or freshman adult animated comedy series Tuca & Bertie, headlined by Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong.
Netflix rescued Designated Survivor, picking it up for a third season last September after its cancellation by ABC following months of complex dealmaking. At the time, the streaming service and studio eOne made one-year deals with the cast for a third season only. Some of the actors have already moved on — for instance Kal Penn is toplining a new comedy series on NBC — but they were open to doing more Designated Survivor. The three produced seasons will continue to be available on Netflix globally.

Netflix’s new animated series Tuca & Bertie follows two gal pals and their experiences as women in the world. More specifically, a bird world. Created by Lisa Hanawalt (BoJack Horseman), the series follows the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building. Tiffany Haddish lends her voice to the character of Tuca, a cocky, carefree toucan while Ali Wong voices Bertie, an anxious, daydreaming songbird. The show, which debuts on May 3, is fun, eye-popping and a little bizarre — but it works. After making its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, Hanawalt talked about how the show is a different kind of story about adult female friendships and Haddish and Wong shared their experiences about playing two Bff birds while trying to get some sponsorship along the way.
Hanawalt told moderator Caroline Framke that she created the characters a while back and they were two of her favorites.

Comedy Central has acquired rights to reruns of “BoJack Horseman.” The agreement is believed to be the first such U.S. linear syndication deal for a Netflix original series.
Variety reported in January that Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury and producer the Tornante Company were shopping linear rights to the series. Tornante was one of the first producers to work with Netflix. When the series was first sold in 2014, the streaming service had yet to adopt its current strategy of acquiring all worldwide distribution rights to its original series.
“Comedy Central has a long history of using potent satire to help make sense of trying times, so ‘BoJack Horseman’ is a perfect fit in our lineup,” said Tanya Giles, general manager, Comedy Central. “We’re thrilled to be the first to put BoJack on linear TV, and who better than an animated horse to teach us a thing or two about humanity?...

Comedy Central has been caught horsin’ around. The cable network announced Thursday that it landed the off-network rights to “BoJack Horseman,” the acclaimed Netflix series created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg and starring the voice of Will Arnett.
“BoJack Horseman” will continue to be available on Netflix, which will debut the show’s fifth season on Sept. 14. But this means the show will now also be available for the first time on linear TV and accessible to cable subscribers who don’t have Netflix. Comedy Central has acquired all current seasons of the series — which has so far produced 49 episodes over four seasons — to run this fall.
Comedy Central plans to air “BoJack” on Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. Et, starting Sept. 26. The show will be paired with “South Park,” which will debut its 22nd season starting that night. Comedy Central’s cc.com and network app will also carry selected episodes.

BoJack Horseman season 5 is officially happening, as Netflix renews its acclaimed animated series...
Fans of animated alcoholic anthropomorphic equines have a reason to celebrate, since Netflix’s ultra-irreverent, sometimes-satirical, animated series BoJack Horseman just nabbed itself a renewal for season 5.
Netflix made BoJack Horseman's fifth season official today in a fourth-wall-breaking, typically BoJack Horseman kind of way, citing the assertions of its message-bombarding 'Clingy Execs' to make the announcement, accompanied by a video.
The announcement arrives less than two weeks after season 4 made its debut on September 8. The season 5 renewal, tellingly, comes as the still-fresh fourth season currently carries a 96% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

BoJack Horseman launched in 2014, depicting the ambivalent, alcohol-addled title character as a horse (Will Arnett) who formerly starred in a hit TV sitcom in the 1990s, as he muddles his way through post-stardom life.
