The talented Wayne Brady will appear in an iconic role this month as he suits up for his latest adventure in entertainment.
Brady, best known for hosting TV’s Let’s Make a Deal, and his improv comedy skills on Whose Line Is It Anyway?, has also had plenty of unique roles on stage.
Now, he will appear in the Tony Award-winning musical The Wiz as the title character.
He recently addressed what it’s like to take on that role as he admired a larger-than-life image of himself as the character.
“Does it really sink in when you see your face on the wall?” CBS Sunday Morning’s interviewer asked him.
“I think it sinks in. This never gets old,” he admitted, adding, “I mean, come on. It’s my big old head on Broadway.”

Cynthia Weil, a Grammy-winning lyricist of notable range and endurance who enjoyed a decades-long partnership with husband Barry Mann and helped write “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling”, “On Broadway”, “Walking in the Rain” and dozens of other hits, has died at age 82.
Weil’s daughter, Dr. Jenn Mann, said that the songwriter died Thursday at her home in Beverly Hills, California, “surrounded by her family.” Mann, the couple’s only child, declined to cite a specific cause of death.
Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, married in 1961, were one of popular music’s most successful teams, part of a remarkable ensemble recruited by impresarios Don Kirshner and Al Nevins and based in Manhattan’s Brill Building neighborhood, a few blocks from Times Square. Bobby Caldwell, the oft-sampled, blue-eyed soul singer behind the late Seventies smash “What You Won’t Do for Love,” has died at the age of 71.
“Bobby passed away here at home,” Caldwell’s wife Mary tweeted Wednesday. “I held him tight in my arms as he left us. I am forever heartbroken. Thanks to all of you for your many prayers over the years.”
While no cause of death was provided, Caldwell had struggled with health issues over the past six years, which Mary cited as a result of an adverse reaction to fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

Much of the discussion around producer-helmed rap albums favors the so-called boom-bap variety. Where fans clamor for their favorite lyricists to lock in with one producer, like Nas and Hit-Boy, Gibbs and Madlib, or Black Thought and Danger Mouse on Cheat Codes. It makes sense that the classic two-person dynamic is reflected in traditionalist hip-hop — but that’s not the extent of its potential, as trap music ingenue Metro Boomin demonstrated on his recent album, Heroes & Villains.
The 15-track project re-affirms the potential for new terrain within the trap sound.

For most people my age, I imagine our first encounter with the dearly departed Dame Angela Lansbury was as the voice of the kindly Mrs. Potts in Disney's 1991 masterpiece "Beauty and the Beast." Not only do I consider this film to be Disney's finest animated film, but I feel it to be the greatest animated picture of all time. It also would be jockeying for the top spot of the best movie musical of all time, including live-action films. This is due in large part of two people: Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.
While their primary audience for the three Disney films they worked on –- "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Aladdin" -– were children, the songwriters didn't lower their standards for musical complexity, wit, or emotion to appease them. They trusted the stories and characters would be captivating enough for younger viewers that they could write detailed,...

Anthony Hamilton finds out he was being two-timed in “You Made a Fool of Me,” a pour-salt-in-the-wound ballad he released on Friday.
“You Made a Fool of Me” is set in 6/8 time — a tempo that, for R&b singers, tends to be the setting for ecstasy (try Otis Redding’s “Cigarettes and Coffee” or the O’Jays’ “Let Me Make Love to You”) or utter despair (revisit Al Green’s “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” or Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind”).

Sports are shut down, but there is still room for underdog stories: “She,” a single from the 52-year-old Stokley Williams, quietly leapfrogged two long-running hits, Chris Brown and Drake’s “No Guidance” and Wale and Jeremih’s “On Chill,” to reach Number One at R&b radio on Monday. “No Guidance” and “On Chill” are both platinum-certified juggernauts, major successes from last summer that refuse to go away. Many contemporary albums arrive with less than a week’s notice, but Jhene Aiko started to roll-out her new full-length, Chilombo, months ago. She released four different tracks to stoke anticipation, only to find that when the album finally came out March 6, a brand new song immediately supplanted the lead singles as a fan-favorite. “B.S.”, a casually vengeful back-and-forth with another R&b singer, H.E.R., quickly became Aiko’s highest-charting track.
Collaborations like this one seem to account for more and more of R&b’s big hits recently.

Aladdin‘s classic song “A Whole New World” gets a major makeover courtesy of Disney’s live-action remake and the voices of Zayn and Zhavia Ward, who’ve joined to sing the track for the film’s soundtrack.
On Thursday, Disney dropped the music video for the reimagined ballad, which sees the two singers wander a number of locations at night, but never actually interact.
For the 1992 original, Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle performed a duet of the song for the hit soundtrack.
The remake, directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes), stars Will Smith as the Genie who grants wishes to the titular hero.

The week Paul McCartney released his new album Egypt Station, his single “Come On to Me” reached roughly 1.5 million radio listeners thanks to the combined support of two formats, Adult Contemporary and Adult Album Alternative, plus major promotional endorsements from iHeartRadio, YouTube, Spotify and Amazon Music.

Without the benefit of any corporate-tech-behemoth support, the 67-year-old Bryson was quietly reaching more than 9 million listeners with his single “Love Like Yours and Mine.

Twenty-five years ago -- November 25, 1992, to be exact -- in the city of Agrabah, a street rat, an outspoken princess and an eager-to-please genie were at the center of another groundbreaking animated musical from Walt Disney Pictures.
Telling the story of a young man who falls in love with a princess and befriends a genie as he aspires for something more in his life, Aladdin quickly became a touchstone in Disney’s canon of animated films. Following the romance-driven The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, the 1992 movie boasted a bigger sense of humor -- largely thanks to Robin Williams’ performance as Genie -- and more action.
Earning universal praise, Aladdin earned $217 million at the U.S. box office and maintains a 94 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But like its predecessors, the soundtrack, with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, propelled it to awards success, winning it two Academy...

Celine Dion went all-out when performing her song, "How Does a Moment Last Forever," off the most recent Beauty and the Beast soundtrack.
During her concert at Caesars Palace's Colosseum in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, the 49-year-old singer channeled the Disney movie's heroine, Belle, while singing the ballad for the first time in front of 4,000 people. Dion clearly impressed the audience, including Et's Cameron Mathison, but admitted that she was little uneasy before taking the stage.
"It was very, very nerve-racking for me," she confided to Mathison. "It's because I'm Celine Dion. It's because it's the first, and I wanted to make it right."

What could be better than Ariana Grande and John Legend’s remake of the “Beauty and the Beast” pop duet, originally sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson? Josh Gad and Jimmy Fallon singing an auto-tuned version of it. On Tuesday night’s episode of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the actor played a “Box of Microphones” with the late night host, where both players draw a random card with Disney song titles on it and subsequently pick a microphone from a box where each microphone has a different vocal effect. Gad first sang “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” from.

What would Beauty and the Beast be without Céline Dion? The songbird contributed the 1991 animated film's soundtrack, singing the pop version of the title track with Peabo Bryson. (Angela Lansbury recorded the film version). Bryson and Dion's duet won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, reaching No. 9 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. With the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast premiering March 17 (starring Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Dan Stevens and Emma Watson), veteran composer Alan Menken asked Dion to sing another original ballad. The song, "How Does a Moment Last Forever," plays over the end titles. "How does a moment last forever? / How can a story never die? / It is love...

I don’t think any of us (who were alive at the time) will ever forget the 1991 Peabo Bryson and Celine Dion duet “Beauty and The Best.” It’s one of if not the most famous animated film songs in history. But I have to admit, these two have some competition for a newer version that was just released. In anticipation of the live action remake of its 1991 animated classic, Disney has released a romantic new music video with Ariana Grande and John Legend singing the title song from “Beauty and the Beast.” While the video itself is a little fluffy featuring

In the film, the 26-year-old actress recreates the classic seven-minute opening number from Disney's animated version of the movie and also performs an original song.

"We see what is kind of the story of Belle's life before she goes to the castle and she meets Beast," Watson says in a behind-the-scenes clip.
Watson's version of Belle has a number of revamps on the original character. For example, in the 1991 Disney movie, Belle is an assistant to her inventor father, but in the 2017 version, she's developing a "modern washing machine that allows her to sit and read." She also wears riding boots to ride horses instead of ballet slippers.

Few pop star interpretations of Disney songs are as iconic as Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson’s take on the title number from Beauty And The Beast. (Sorry, Demi Lovato’s ”Let It Go.”) Since the studio is in the business of attempting to recreate magic these days, it enlisted Ariana Grande and John Legend to sub in on the duet for the upcoming live-action remake of the movie. Thankfully, however, they didn’t really try to update the tune with many 21st-century frills. In fact, it’s almost charming how well this would fit on ’90s radio.
Look you still may prefer Angela Lansbury—or whatever Emma Thompson will do in the Bill Condon film—but as saccharine pop numbers with a heck of a lot of belting go, this is solid and not as terrible as it could have been.
