A new episode of the Revisited video series has just made its way online, and with this one we’re celebrating the birthday of the late, great director Tobe Hooper by looking at one of his more underrated horror films: the 2004 release Toolbox Murders (watch it Here)! You can hear all about it in the embed above.
Toolbox Murders is technically a remake of the 1978 film The Toolbox Murders, but it’s very different from the source material. Written by Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch, this one has the following synopsis: Young couple Steve and Nell move into a once fashionable, but now decaying, apartment block in Los Angeles, and soon realise that a number of young female residents have met unusually violent deaths. Before long, Nell makes some disturbing discoveries about the building’s manager and her fellow tenants.
The film stars Angela Bettis, Brent Roam, Marco Rodríguez, Rance Howard,...

Racial identity has never been a big deal on Sydney to the Max.
Sure, the title character Sydney (Happy!‘s Ruth Righi) has a white father and a Black mother, but race is never addressed on the Disney Channel series. So when the showrunner and writers behind the tween sitcom decided to comb through Sydney’s very personal Black hair journey in an upcoming installment titled “The Hair Switch Project” (airing Friday at 8:25/7:25c), it had to feel organic.

It’s not every day we see a remake of a currently running franchise, but now there is Child’s Play. While original screenwriter Don Mancini continues to advance the escapades of his version’s murderous doll possessed by a serial killer’s soul (most recently in 2017’s Cult of Chucky with a SyFy television show arriving in 2020), MGM and United Artists decided to flex their legal retention of ownership by branching off anew. After Mancini unsurprisingly declined to provide them his seal of approval—brand confusion is definitely not something he’d willingly condone—the project moved forward under the stewardship of writer Tyler Burton Smith and director Lars Klevberg. Thankfully, they knew to make it their own.
Whether a result of needing to stick solely to what was kept in the divorce or an actual desire to cut a fresh path, the only similarity between Mancini’s horror...

This modern reboot captures some of the original franchise’s manic dark energy but fails to transfer it into a worthy movie.

Every time Mark Hamill’s Chucky asks “Are we having fun now?” in the new Child’s Play, it’s a guaranteed chortler. The voice actor is clearly having a ball, adding another potential franchised cadence to his already impressive roster. And the quasi-catchphrase comes at points of increasingly absurd juxtaposition, as this earnest doll asks for friendship while gripping a butcher’s knife. In moments like these, it’s fun. But worth sitting through a whole movie? You might want to look into the lifetime warranty on this thing.
A little over 30 years after the original Chucky terrorized his owner and millions of children, the long-running Child’s Play series is getting a redesign—most notably without franchise creator Don Mancini and voice-of-Chucky Brad Dourif.

There’s an internal struggle going on within the remake of Child’s Play. No, this isn’t existential crisis or indie bent to the horror classic, but a war of tone. Yes, in rebooting Chucky, the filmmakers have mixed a traditional fright flick with a very strange, almost comedic, take on the material. It doesn’t really work, but when it’s being weird, it’s actually a fair amount of fun. Had that offbeat tone been stuck to, this would have been a real pleasant surprise, though sadly it becomes less and less of a factor as the movie wears on. It’s ultimately second rate horror, even if it’s not the disaster it was shaping up to be, just going by the marketing. The film is a modern day update of the original 1988 horror outing Child’s Play. Here, instead of a doll being possessed by...

Chucky continues his Toy Story character murder spree in two new posters that have been released for Child’s Play. In these posters he burns Rex to a crisp and stabs Mr. Potato Head in the head with a knife.
We’ve already seen posters of Chucky killing Woody, Buzz, and Slinky. But, I guess murdering those characters just weren’t enough for him. He really hates Toy Story! Or the Child’s Play marketing team hates Toy Story. Check out both posters below.
The movie stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddy doll for his birthday. Turns out the doll is sinister and primed for killing. The story follows a group of friends as they take on a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world. It’s also been reported that the version of Chucky in this film is "a defective 'Buddy doll'...

I’m still not exactly sure why the marketing for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot has chucking killing off characters from Pixar’s Toy Story, but it’s making me want to see a crossover movie!
The latest poster features Chucky murdering Buzz Lightyear with his own ray guy. The poster also came with the caption:
“Playtime is never over. Your friend till the end hits the big screen on June 21.”
I really wish Pixar would respond in some way and have some fun with this, but I imagine they don’t want to give the film any kind of marketing, and I understand that. After all, they are killing their iconic characters. It’s all in good fun, though!

Orion Pictures has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Child’s Play and it introduces us to the cast of the film and offers details on the characters that they play. Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman, are all featured in the video. It also shows off some new footage!
Plaza takes on the role of a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddy doll, which turns out to be a murderous killer doll. Andy and his group of friends take on and stop the technologically-advanced defective 'Buddy doll’ which seems to have a taste for blood and violence. When previously talking about why she took on the role, Plaza said:
"I love it so much. To me, the original is an iconic movie. I haven’t seen our film, just the trailer, but it’s a real throwback horror movie. It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it.

Additional cast includes Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta), Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) as Plaza’s son, Beatrice Kitsos (The Exorcist) and Ty Consiglio (Wonder) who will be playing the roles of Falyn and Pugg, respectively, two friends of Andy Barclay. After Disney released a new trailer for Toy Story 4, a new Child’s Play poster popped up online featuring Chucky roasting the character Slinky over a fire.
This is the second poster that has been released for the Child’s Play movie that shows Chucky destroying a Toy Story character. Obviously someone on the Child’s Play marketing team has issues with Pixar’s Toy Story. The poster came with the caption:
“On June 21, find out what’s really cooking.”
I’m sure this won’t be the last time that Child’s Play releases a poster roasting Toy Story. The marketing team seems to be having too much fun with it! I wonder if Disney or Pixar will eventually respond in some way.

Orion has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette for the upcoming reboot of Child’s Play. This new promo video puts a focus on the creepy-looking animatronic dolls that were made to bring they villainous character Chucky to life practically in the film.
The dolls that were created for the film can move on their own, and that even includes the facial expressions. In the featurette, we also learn that it takes three to four puppeteers to operate Chucky and bring the doll to life.
While I’m not the biggest fan of Child’s Play being remade, I do like the fact that they didn’t use Gci to bring the doll to life.

This new poster for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot might just be the best piece of marketing that’s been released for the film so far. What makes it so great is the fact that it hilariously trolls Toy Story 4.
The poster was shared on Twitter with the following caption:
“There’s a new sheriff in town. Meet your new best friend on June 21.”
As you can see it features the foot of Chucky walking off frame leaving a trail of blood behind him along with a slaughtered cowboy doll that looks like Woody lying on the ground. Yeah, it’s a little demented, but it’s all in good fun.
The movie features a new version of Chucky, who is voiced by Mark Hamill, and the doll embarks on a bloody killing spree as a group of kids try to stop him.

Some inspired casting has developed over the weekend for the upcoming ‘Child’s Play’ reboot. Mark Hamill has jumped on board to be the voice of Chucky.
The movie follows a mother (Aubrey Plaza) who gives her son (Gabriel Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio and Carlease Burke also star in the remake which switches out the supernatural element (a possessed doll) of the original for one of a malfunctioning killer robot doll.
The announcement was made at WonderCon, Hamill later took to Twitter with his own message for his legion of followers.

As a fan of the original Child’s Play film and franchise, I really don’t want to like this upcoming reboot that’s in development. But the studio has gone ahead and done something that is going to guarantee to get me in theaters to see this movie. They went ahead and cast Mark Hamill in the role of Chucky! That’s right, the voice of the Joker is now going to bring the sinister doll of evil to life!
The news was announced at Orion’s presentation today at WonderCon in Anaheim. Hamill appeared in a pre-recorded video for the the fans and offered the following message:
“If you’re wondering who’s going to play Chucky in the new Child’s Play, you’re looking at him.”
With Hamill on board I can’t help but be a little excited that he is provided the voice of Chucky.

MGM and Orion have released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Child’s Play remake. This is a re-imagining of the classic 80s horror movie and in my opinion, it doesn’t look like anything special.
The movie stars Aubrey Plaza as a mother who gives her son, Andy, a toy Buddi doll for his birthday. Turns out the doll is sinister and primed for killing. The story is said to follow a group of kids as they take on a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world. Chucky’s second coming has a release date… and it’s coming sooner than you think.
We are, of course, referring to the somewhat contentious Child’s Play reboot in development at Orion Pictures, which has now released a suitably creepy poster to confirm that, yes, the film will be hitting theaters next summer – June 21st, 2019, to be precise.

Doll Brawl: Chucky Vs. Woody & Buzz As Orion Dates ‘Child’s Play’ Redo Against ‘Toy Story 4’ In June
Orion Pictures has set June 21 as the release date for its relaunch of the horror franchise Child’s Play. That’s the one with Chucky, the demented doll possessed with the soul of a serial killer.
This sets up as counterprogramming to another doll franchise, as Disney opens Toy Story 4 the same day, and parents of young children will want to be careful not to slip into the wrong door in the multiplex or face therapy bills later. NBC has canceled comedy “Crowded” after one season. The sitcom starred Patrick Warburton and Miranda Cosgrove. The show features empty nesters Mike (Warburton) and Martina (Carrie Preston). The biggest problems facing new sitcoms today are getting the writing to fit exactly with the actors who have to deliver the scripts, and getting through the establishment. Crowded, NBC‘s latest effort, gets through both of them in a way that is almost unprecedented. Top that off with great writing, and this is one of the best sitcoms in years.
Created by Suzanne Martin, of Hot in Cleveland and The Soul Man, Crowded is an effort that showcases avoiding the need for the convoluted establishment that drags a lot of attempts down, by simply being about the world we know. Instead of struggling to get you to play along with some gimmick, it only has to give you the characters, which leaves a lot more time to get to the comedy.

Three episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Following a slight uptick in the promising sitcom category with Superstore and Telenovela – not to mention the buzzy Carmichael Show – NBC is back to disappointing us again with the creatively inept new comedy Crowded. It’s multi-camera, there’s a laugh track, grandparents burst in unannounced, and the main duo are lovable scalawags that just want to be left alone, darn it!
There are some aspects of the network’s new show that don’t warrant a double-barrel dose of pointed criticism, but the three episodes made available for review are such a downward spiral of dated gags and inane humor that, by episode three, it presents a pretty convincing case for simply copy-pasting my 2015 review of Truth Be Told, changing a few proper nouns and calling it a day. Patrick Warburton is the new Mark Paul-Gosselaar, marriage problems are the new baby problems and,...

Well, as I said last fall when "Send Me" was announced during its Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign: who in their right mind would want to do that (go back in time to the days of slavery)? Personally, I say No Way. That is, of course, unless I could be like Django and take out a whole bunch of white Southern slave owners (or just like Ken Norton in "Mandingo" with Susan George. Just kidding...Maybe...) Created by playwright, screenwriter and actor Steve Harper, and starring Tracie Thoms, Gabrielle Carteris, Nelsan Ellis, Jerrika Hinton, Jasika Nicole, and Carlease Burke, and shot earlier this year in and around Los Angeles, "Send Me" follows a black woman...

I appreciate that NBC at least let one other piece of pre-upfronts news break -- Rip, "Hart of Dixie" -- between piecemeal announcements for new comedy pilots. Just hours after picking up the multi-cam comedy "People Are Talking," NBC has added to what is essentially a bare comedy cupboard with series orders for "Crowded" and "Superstore." The trio of Thursday comedies join the strange "Coach" reboot and Eva Longoria's "Telenovela" in NBC's 2015-2016 in-season plans, while "Mr. Robinson" and "The Carmichael Show" are premiering limited runs in August. It's at least conceivable that NBC may not renew a single one of its existing comedies, though "Undateable" is probably reasonably safe for a third season pickup. Let's look at the two new comedies, both ensembles featuring a slew of TV favorites. "Superstore" marks America Ferrara's return to the small screen and also brings Ben Feldman back to NBC just one...

McGee (Sean Murray) takes the stairs. Tony (Michael Weatherly) comments, "You have been looking increasingly Kate Mossish there McTim. What are you down 2-3 lbs?" Yet another reference to McGee's weight. Been a lot of that this season since Sean trimmed down. Perhaps Tony should take a leaf out of his book! Ha. Ducky (David McCallum) asks everyone to spend Thanksgiving with him, but they all have plans. Tony's attending a poker tournament. Ziva (Cote de Pablo) asks after Ducky's mother and comments she hardly recognizes Ducky these days. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) tells them of the Db in the cornfield and Ducky gives him his invite. Gibbs returns the favour; an invite to a cornfield. Tony talks about maize, which is the Indian word for corn. Ziva corrects him the Indian word for corn is "makki." He meant the American Indian, in which case he should've said Native American. Ducky...

Of course the big news items yesterday were the announcements related to marriage equality. As always, I prefer my legal analysis from the Law Dork, Chris Geidner. Basically, the Doma announcement was nice, but not at all what the headlines said. As for the filing on Prop 8 asking the stay be lifted, that’s more interesting. Particularly if you live in California.
Does anyone else think that allowing Prince Harry to throw the stag party for Prince William is risky? At least taking a yacht out into international waters should minimize witnesses. But I admit to spitting Coke Zero on my keyboard when I read that the party would involve a “variety of extreme watersports.”
The DC Agenda has a nice roundup of various gay Oscar winners, from costume designers like Albert Wolsky to Dustin Lance Black.
Speaker John Boehner issued a brief statement regarding Doma yesterday:“While Americans want...

Never heard of this flick until now. I received the info via email likely because there’s a brotha and sistah in it who seem to have notable roles of some kind (well, he does anyway).
His name is Afemo Omilami, by the way. He’s done a lot of TV, and has seen parts in bigger films. But I’m not too familiar with his work. Her name is Carlease Burke, and her resume is somewhat similar to his.
In the film, titled Beneath The Dark, Paul and Adrienne, a young couple burning up the desolate miles on the road between Texas and La, check into the equally desolate but eternally stylish Roy’s Motel and Cafe. As if preserved in time, the motel proves to be a strange and surreal place where the guests are forced to confront the secrets that they keep – from the world and from each other.
