Craig Ferguson knows a thing or two about strikes. The comedian hosted CBS’ The Late Late Show during the 2007/2008 writers strike.
As a member of the WGA, SAG-AFTRA and the DGA, the Scot has urged the studios to “make a f*cking deal”.
“I support the strike wholeheartedly,” he told Deadline. “You have one job as a producer and that’s to make a f*cking deal. That’s really the whole ethos of being a producer and they’re not making a deal, and I can’t understand that. Any good producer finds a way to make a deal that everyone walks away feeling kind of good about so I can’t imagine why an association of producers can’t get together with a bunch of people who want to work and say, ‘All right, we have to find a deal’.”

Norm Macdonald, the onetime SNL “Weekend Update” host and failed candidate to inherit The Late Late Show, will be back behind a prop desk this fall as the host of Netflix’s Norm Macdonald Has a Show. A trailer for the talk show spotlights Macdonald stiffly questioning the title of the program, asking Drew Barrymore if she misses cocaine, David Letterman if he thinks much about dying and Chevy Chase about knowing Bob Dylan (“I fucked him,” Chase answers). Throughout, it shows Macdonald’s off-the-cuff, irreverent brand of silliness. “This isn’t in the script,...

Theoretical physicist Brian Greene has reached a wider audience through his many books on physics, including “The Elegant Universe,” “The Fabric of the Cosmos” and “Icarus at the Edge of Time.” But last year, he premiered his play “Light Falls: Space, Time, and an Obsession of Einstein,” a cerebral, dramatic retelling of the story of Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, at the World Science Festival last year. Now, an audiobook performance narrated by Green and an all-star cast led by actor Paul Rudd that’s based on the play is now available to download from Audible. Listen to a brief excerpt of the audio play below, featuring Rudd as Einstein himself, and watch an animated clip that explains the title of the play.

"How would you wipe my ass?" is not a question asked at every job interview, but it is in the Netflix adaptation of Jonathan Evison's enthusiastically praised 2012 novel, The Revised Fundamentals of Caring.
The Boston Globe critic, in fact, raved that the book reminded him of "Little Miss Sunshine meets Rain Man." The New York Times insisted the work was "infused with a sad rage that makes good comedy great," and the La Weekly added that here was "a literary version of a good grunge song."
Rob Burnett, who served as the executive producer of Late Night with David Letterman for two decades, wrote and directed this celluloid reworking of the tome, apparently a project dear to his heart. The result is a highly engaging yet rather familiar road movie. Two self-involved souls with rather enormous personal problems jump into a van to visit the biggest manmade hole in America,...

Paul Rudd had no idea how big a star Selena Gomez was until he filmed new movie "The Fundamentals of Caring" with her.
The Ant-Man star knew his castmate was popular, but had no idea she was a really big deal until he witnessed her fame at first hand.
"I'm so out of touch," Paul admits to Variety. "It wasn't until we were filming and I saw thousands of people turning out to try and see her that I realised what a phenomenon she is. To see her deal with that kind of fame, I came away even more impressed with her. She's extraordinary."
Director Rob Burnett also praised the 23-year-old's talents, saying Selena is "only at the beginning of her talents".
In the film, the Ant-Man star plays an out-of-work novelist who is charged with looking after a foul-mouthed, wheelchair-bound teenager on a road trip. Selena plays a young runaway who joins their adventure.

Last seen wrecking shop with the rest of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, Paul Rudd changes gears quite considerably with the Netflix distributed The Fundamentals of Caring, the second feature from We Made This Movie director Rob Burnett. Stepping into the shoes of retired writer Ben Benjamin, whose life is in a downward spiral after a personal tragedy. After qualifying as a care giver, his first charge is Trevor (Craig Roberts), a young man suffering from muscular dystrophy who might be just as broken as himself. Soon becoming friends, the pair embark on a cross country trip to visit the World's Deepest Pit, where they find they can help each other fix themselves. So yeah, The Fundamentals of Caring isn’t anything new when it comes to this type of Indie drama, but to dismiss it on those terms would be a huge mistake. Burnett’s script may...

Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.

Leave it to a Romanian director to make a movie that best expresses the dangers of the dyed-in-the-wool mindset of modern America. Culled partly from historical documents, Aferim! is a twisted history lesson whose messages transcend its insular time period of 19th-century Romania. Its story concerns Constable Costandin (Teodor Corban) and his son, Ionita (Mihai Comanoiu), who chase after a wanted Gypsy slave...

Since her brilliant transition from Disney star to rebellious teen in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers,” Selena Gomez continues to surprise. Too bad the same can’t be said for her new movie, “The Fundamentals of Caring,” a saccharine buddy dramedy from writer-director Rob Burnett (best known as the executive producer of “The Late Show with David Letterman”).
“The Fundamentals of Caring” stars Paul Rudd as Ben, a grieving father and failed writer who takes a job as a caretaker for an amusingly surly teenage boy. Not that Trevor, played by a doe-eyed Craig Roberts (“Submarine”), doesn’t have a reason to be surly; he suffers from muscular dystrophy, a disorder that severely impairs his physical abilities but leaves his mind sharp. Ben and Trevor strike up an all-too-likely friendship, each being the only one to tell the other the hard truths.

The expansion of original productions by Netflix continues, with the Original Netflix film, The Fundamentals Of Caring – for which we now have a new trailer. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and will shortly make its debut on the streaming platform. It is notable for being the highest profile film project yet undertaken by writer-director Rob Burnett, who was a producer and writer on The Late Show With David Letterman for over 1000 episodes.
The Fundamentals Of Caring is based on the 2012 novel by Jonathan Evison – The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving – and is essentially a road-trip movie, starring Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Craig Roberts (Bad Neighbors) and Selena Gomez (Bad Neighbors 2).
“The Fundamentals of Caring follows Ben, a retired writer who becomes a caregiver after suffering a personal tragedy. After 6 weeks of training, Ben meets his first client, Trevor, a foul-mouthed 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy. One paralyzed emotionally,...

"Does any part of you want to see the world?" A second trailer has arrived online (see the first here) for Rob Burnett's indie film The Fundamentals of Caring, which first premiered at Sundance and is hit Netflix later this week. The dark comedy stars Paul Rudd as a depressed guy who becomes a caregiver, and his first job is caring for Trevor, a lonely teen with muscular dystrophy confined to a wheelchair, played by Craig Roberts. The cast includes Selena Gomez, Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller. This is a fun film and has some smart comedy, and the performances from Roberts and Rudd are fantastic. It wasn't my favorite out of Sundance, but it's charming and worth watching if you're interested. Rob Burnett, executive producer of The Late Show with David Letterman since 1996, is returning to the world of film for his second feature, the Netflix-distributed, Sundance-closing The Fundamentals of Caring. The film follows Paul Rudd’s attempt to cope with recent loss through a caregiving program. His first client is a quick-witted boy with a timer on his life (Craig Roberts) who falls for a girl on their road trip (Selena Gomez).
We said in our review,”Roberts especially shines as Trevor, continuing his vein of sardonic types he played before in his breakout film, Richard Ayoade’s Submarine. His performance is not about physicality (The Theory of Everything this isn’t), but Burnett’s deadpan script fits his quick-witted delivery like a glove. Rudd is good value as Ben, believably wracked by guilt over his son but also a great foil to Roberts’ bitterness.”

Editor’s Note: There are so many different paths to becoming a movie director, but a career in late night isn’t one of the more common ones. Rob Burnett spent 30 years working for David Letterman, rising from intern to executive producer, before directing Paul Rudd and Selena Gomez in the upcoming Netflix release “The Fundamentals of Caring.” We asked the writer/director what lessons he took from “The Late Show” and how did it prepare him for being a filmmaker. What we got was the following essay, which is a great insight into the mindset it takes to direct a feature film.

Due to makes its bow on the streaming service on June 24, Rob Burnett’s dramedy garnered a healthy amount of buzz during its premiere at Sundance and is the latest indie drama to be scooped up by Netflix – and it’s little wonder why.
Placing Roberts in the role of a crippled 18-year-old, The Fundamentals of Caring tees up a heartfelt dynamic between Trevor and Ben, Paul Rudd’s retired writer seeking a cathartic release from relationship woes and a recent divorce. And so, in an attempt to thrust Trevor out of his mind-numbing comfort zone, the pair plot a road trip to visit a handful of weird and wonderful landmarks across the country, including the World’s Deepest Pit.

Despite starting off strong with Beasts of No Nation, Netflix’s original feature film line up hasn’t really being on par with their success with t.v. shows. Follow all of our Sundance 2016 coverage. The first half of The Fundamentals of Caring is a breathlessly witty, almost flawlessly executed comedy starring two very funny men with excellent rapport. If the film had stopped at the 45-minute mark, and if the rest of it had then ceased to exist for some reason (gypsy curse?), forcing me to review only the first half, well, that would have been a glowing review, let me tell you. The second half is still funny, but it’s hindered by some baffling, disappointing story choices that threaten to upend the whole thing. What began as an appealing two-character story gets loaded with extraneous, wacky side characters who bring their own subplots with them, cluttering up our perfectly good comedy. (One of them is a pregnant woman. You know what happens when you add an unnecessary pregnant woman to your movie? You also add an unnecessary childbirth scene!) Based...

Films centered around disabled people often focus on the inevitable demise of their main characters. Not so in the bracingly optimistic road movie The Fundamentals of Caring, a witty and at times very funny bromance between Craig Roberts’ wheelchair-bound teenager and his carer, a perfectly-cast Paul Rudd. Writer-director Rob Burnett, adapting Jonathan Evison’s The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, finds nuggets of comedy in the blindspots in your typical accounts of degenerative diseases.
Rudd’s Ben is a former writer who, after a tragedy involving his son, decides to change track and become a $9-an-hour carer. His first client is potty-mouthed Trevor, a Brit with muscular dystrophy and a caustic humor who throws insults like confetti. At first, Trevor hates leaving his living room and the American TV he watches so much. But when his single mother needs to travel to Atlanta on business, he warms to the idea of...

Rob Burnett, longtime producer of David Letterman‘s “Late Show,” scored big time with his second feature film, landing a reported $7 million deal with Netflix for “The Fundamentals of Caring.” “Part of the deal, if you look deep into it, like page 23, they’re going to turn the other way on some of the damaged or unreturned DVDs that I have at home,” the writer-director joked to TheWrap Editor in Chief Sharon Waxman at TheWrap’s video studio at the Sundance Film Festival. Burnett also discussed the cast of the film, including Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts and Selena Gomez. Also Read: Sundance Deals:.

The Svod deal is allegedly worth a reported $7 million. Theatrical rights are still available. Written and directed by Rob Burnett, "Fundamentals of Caring" stars Paul Rudd as a man who becomes a caregiver in the wake of suffering a tragedy. He hits the road with his first client, an 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy (Craig Roberts), and the two quickly form a friendship over a handful of adventures. Selena Gomez also stars. Fifteen years ago, Jim Gaffigan was yet another young stand-up comic riding the conveyer belt from the comedy clubs to a network sitcom in the wake of the success of Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romano, Tim Allen, and more. His CBS sitcom "Welcome to New York" was designed as a vehicle for him, but somewhere between the start of development and when it hit the air, the focus shifted to co-star Christine Baranski, an Emmy winner for CBS' "Cybill." It turned out to be a good showcase for neither, and produced only 13 episodes before calling it quits. That wasn't the end of Jim Gaffigan, sitcom actor, but for a long time, it was the end of Jim Gaffigan, aspiring sitcom star. He took jobs on other people's shows ("The Ellen Show," "My Boys") and largely focused on his food-obsessed comedy act (like his famous routine about Hot Pockets). Given how well...

Wednesday night will mark the end of an era for late-night TV: The David Letterman Decades. But as Dave waves goodbye after 33 years on TV, so will his executive producer, former head writer, production company president, CEO and longtime collaborator. By the way, those are all the same guy: Rob Burnett. Burnett began his career with Letterman in 1985 as a 22-year-old intern. In 1988, he joined the writing staff of “Late Night with David Letterman,” becoming head writer four years later. He moved with Letterman from NBC to CBS, where he continued as top scribe through 1996. That year, the five-time Emmy.

Will David Letterman's longtime rival, Jay Leno, appear on his final episode of The Late Show With David Letterman? Don't hold your breath. Executive Producer Rob Burnett told CNNMoney in an interview posted on Tuesday that he was invited but expressed doubt that he would make an appearance. He made his comments amid much fan speculation of such a reunion, as well as recent questioning on the air by Howard Stern, who is not a fan of Leno. "Um, I don't think so, I don't think so," he said. "We invited Jay and all I heard was that he was in Chuckles in Boulder, Colorado for three weeks. It must be a long gig. I don't know. I would've loved to have Jay on the show. I think we all...

Mr. Ed was a horse, and he ended up more reputable than Ed Stevens, the titular character in NBC’s Ed. Created by Jon Beckerman and Rob Burnett, this 2000-2004 series is criminally underrated and deserves more attention than it’s gotten, and is one of the most regretfully forgotten television shows of all time.
Ed‘s premise is a simple one. The lead character is Ed, of course, who travels back to his home town following his divorce from an unfaithful wife. Originally, his plan was only to visit his hometown of Stuckyville, but following a run-in with a girl he loved in high school, Ed decides to move back home permanently. What follows is a wonderful story that may seem somewhat plain by today’s television standards. Ed is a good person and he works as a lawyer in his home town helping people and facing the occasional moral dilemma.

Selena Gomez fans, get ready to see your girl on the big screen! The brunette beauty confirmed today that she's landed a new movie role starring opposite (the wonderful, adorable, hilarious and swoonworthy) Paul Rudd in the Rob Burnett-helmed adaptation The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving. The Jonathan Evison novel of the same name was published in 2012 and tells the story of Ben Benjamin (Rudd), a man escaping divorce who just barely qualifies as a professional caregiver for a typical video-game-obsessed and sex-crazed teenage boy Trevor, who has muscular dystrophy. And that's where Selena comes in! Gomez...

Hot on the heels of the teaser trailer for Ant-Man this week, Paul Rudd has lined up his next project to follow the Marvel Studios adaptation. Variety reports the Anchorman franchise star is set to lead an adaptation of The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, based on Jonathan Evison's novel of the same name. The New York Times bestselling novel follows the touching friendship of Ben Benjamin (Rudd) and a young adult stricken with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As you've probably guessed, the two become close friends, each helping the other in their own life with emotional, funny and inspiring results. It basically sounds like a platonic version of The Fault in Our Stars, but that might be an over simplification of the story since so many people are loving it.
