Now, before I turn this into a proper town hall meeting about Leonardo DiCaprio's dance moves at Coachella, a disclaimer: We can't 100% confirm this is Leo since his back is turned in the footage, but we do have a lot of photographic evidence that he attended Coachella, wore the polo shirt and board shorts you see here, and covered his face with that inventive wrap technique usually reserved for Blanket Jackson. So in other words: It's almost certainly, nearly definitely Leonardo DiCaprio, star of J. Edgar and Marvin's Room. Watch the above video. Experience Leo's dancing. Also experience his lunging, punching, thugging, and thrusting. Guys, wow. What. What is he doing here. What is he achieving. How did this. What is. Who? What. A who-what now. Stop. How. Go. He begins with traditional Caucasian bopping. I'm on board. But not for board shorts. That's not what I said. I'm just on board.

I recently had an opportunity to attend a press junket for Disney's Oz The Great and Powerful, where director Sam Raimi and the cast talked about certain aspects of the film. I wish I could have talked to these guys one on one, or at least been able to ask a question, unfortunately I wasn't able to. Most of the qustions asked by the press were very generic, but I picked out some of the more interesting quotes and topics from panels.
Everyone seemed really nice, and I got a chance to meet most of them. I do have to say that both Mila Kunis and Michelle Williams are more beautiful in person than they are in the movies. I got to talk to Sam Raimi the longest, and he's just the nicest guy! Very humble and so awesome! It was really great to get to meet him cause I'm such a huge fan.

Last week, Wamg took a journey down the yellow brick road in celebration of Disney’s new film Oz The Great & Powerful while attending the press day for the film at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, CA. No… really! They had a yellow brick road!
While at the junket, Wamg attended a press conference for the film. The conference was split into two parts. Below you will find the first half with actors James Franco, Mila Kunis, Joey King, and producer Joe Roth. Enjoy!
When small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) pulls one flimflam too many, he finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz where he must somehow transform himself into the great wizard—and just maybe into a better man as well.
Q: Okay. Uh, this is for Mr. Franco. What was it like to work with Sam Raimi again, but for a completely different film now?...

James Franco says he is a magician with tricks that will amaze, as long as his assistant is Lance Burton. The master magician trained Franco for his role as a conman carnival magician in Oz the Great and Powerful. Franco says he had a lot of fun getting private lessons and he does pull off the illusions you see in the movie, in fact, he says, "I got to learn quite a few pretty cool tricks that if I took them to parties, I probably would get a lot of attention." However, he says there's one little problem. "I need a lot of help from Lance to pull them off and, uh, he doesn’t travel around with me. So it’s just sort of one of the skills that I’ve learned like along the way, like sword-fighting or, you know, flying a plane that I just don’t...

James Franco has revealed he learned magic from a Las Vegas magician for his role in Disney's Oz the Great and Powerful.
Franco told SFX that director Sam Raimi insisted he train with Lance Burton for two months, learning the tricks of the trade for his part as the wizard.
"Oz, my character, is a performer. In some ways he's an inventor, an artist," the actor explained.
"What he does in this film is he goes to this land where people can do actual magic and he can't. But he learns that his earthbound magic or sleight of hand, his way of entertaining people is in its own way valuable and can be used to help people."
Franco said that he picked up the classic tricks pretty quickly, but that they weren't used in the end cut.
"I learned to materialise live doves and pull rabbits out of hats. I think I did pretty well.

James Franco has a lot to live up to when he steps onto the yellow brick road in next month's Oz: The Great and Powerful. In the prequel, he plays the titular Oz, a morally ambiguous magician who crashes down in the Emerald City in hopes of fulfilling his dreams of being a rich and famous wizard. When I visited the set of Oz: The Great and Powerful last year, Franco talked to me and a few other reporters about why it's the right time for another Oz movie, and what it meant for him to step out onto that yellow brick road for the first time. When Sam Raimi approached you with the script, was it an immediate yes? James Franco: Yeah, it was a pretty easy decision. [Robert] Downey Jr. had fallen out - I'm not sure why - and then they were talking to Johnny Depp and...

Why not fold documentaries into my list of the "Best Films of 2011?" After all, a movie is a movie, right? Yes, and some years I've thrown them all into the same mixture. But all of these year-end Best lists serve one useful purpose: They tell you about good movies you may not have seen or heard about. The more films on my list that aren't on yours, the better job I've done.
That's particularly true were you to depend on the "short list" released by the Academy's Documentary Branch of 15 films they deem eligible for nomination. The branch has been through turmoil in the past and its procedures were "reformed" at one point. But this year it has made a particularly scandalous sin of
omission. It doesn't include "The Interrupters" (currently scoring 99% on the Tomatometer), which has received better reviews and been on more critic's Best lists than any other.

On Monday, we presented you with the 9 Most Devastatingly Sad Documentaries of All Time, a list that was topped by Dear Zachary. It seems like, whenever we mention Dear Zachary and how devastatingly sad it is, a few people see it as a challenge. They think, "Nooooo. How sad can it really be?"
It's not a challenge you will win, folks. Dear Zachary will pummel you every single time. But, if you're recently watched it, or for another reason feel as though the world has stacked its deck against you, we've got you covered. Choose one or more among these 9 documentaries, and the air that life knocked out of you will re-enter and flow through your lungs again. Or at least, put a smile on your face and a lump in your throat.
9. Paper Heart: Finally the hipsters have gone full circle and consumed themselves like an ouroborus recycled from an old Pac-Man t-shirt.

Stage-magic documentary Make Believe screened to a packed house at Alamo Drafthouse earlier this week, so it's coming back this weekend for two afternoon screenings at the Alamo Ritz. The movie won an audience award at Austin Film Festival last year.
Quoth the Alamo synopsis:
"This amazing documentary exposes the steamy and high-stakes world of teenage magic competitions as it follows six adolescent outsiders who all share an extraordinary passion for the art of trickery. Armed with great skill and a dazzling array of illusions, these teenagers embark from all over the world to attend the annual World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas, where they each hope to be named Teen World Champion by master magician Lance Burton. From the producers of the fabulous King Of Kong, this film will leave you inspired and dumbfounded, as it showcases some of the most incredible, eccentric young performers working today."

Make Believe Directed by: J. Clay Tweel Written by: Cleven S. Loham Starring: Lance Burton, Bill Koch, Krystyn Lambert, Derek McKee The art of magic has been around for centuries, and while the promise of seeing someone perform seemingly impossible feats will probably always draw a crowd, today's audiences are more wise, savvy and cynical than ever before. Nowadays, I think a lot of people take magic for granted, which is why modern magicians like Criss Angel and David Blaine need to put on a rock and roll attitude in order to get some attention. Still, with talented new magicians coming out of the woodwork all the time, it poses an interesting question: where do all these magicians get their start and how do they hone their skills? Make Believe is a documentary that purports to answer that question by focusing on the Teen Championship at the World Magic Seminar,...

I hope those of you (Americans) who get Memorial day weekend off have lovely plans this weekend for picnics, grilling, bbqs, pool time, beach time, or maybe just shutting all your curtains turning your phone off and getting some sleep. Really, it's all about what you consider fun. It's also the official beginning of summer, which means nothing to me because it's been hot and humid for about the last month and before that the temperature hasn't gotten below the 70's since February. Still! For those of you who get to see this weekend as the weekend that reminds you that your world will slowly thaw and warm and bloom again, I hope you have a blast with that. And that all of us take a few moments to remember the soldiers this holiday is dedicated to and the recent victims of tornados who aren't going to be planning parties for a long time.

At one point in "Make Believe," the mother of the aspiring 17-year-old magician Krystyn Lambert describes her daughter as finding a home in magic since "it's a little world of oddballs." Ordinarily, Krystyn wouldn't fit the profile. Compared at one point to Britney Spears for a combination of looks and talent, the blonde from Malibu who serves as student council president at her high school wouldn't appear to be an outsider, but in fact she's clearly set apart in her drive.
J. Clay Tweel's documentary tries its best to suggest otherwise, but "Make Believe" isn't so much about a group of teenagers trying to find their way in the world as it is about the fact that they already know where they're going. As older magicians such as Lance Burton and Ed Alonzo (best remembered as the Max's resident illusionist on "Saved by the Bell") explain throughout its 90-minute running time,...

The magical magic documentary, Make Believe, follows six mostly awkward teenagers as they compete to be crowned Teen World Champion at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas. And in Make Believe, director J. Clay Tweel does for magic what Jeffrey Blitz did for spelling bees in Spellbound: He humanizes these teenage outcasts, gives their devotion to dorkiness the the sheen of cool, and finds the sweetness in their awkward struggles to find themselves within their magic and use the art to help find a connection with other people. Along the way, they also perform a few exceptional, crowd-pleasing magic tricks.

I'm a sucker for magic, I freakin' love the stuff. I enjoy catching a magic show when ever the opportunity presents itself. It's amazing what these talented magicians can do. Unfortunately, I've never been able to do it myself. I've tried! But I don't have that whole sleight of Hand thing going for me.
This fantastic looking documentary called Make Believe follows six teenage kids who are aspiring magicians, who are really good at it, as they make their way to a competition in Las Vegas. This kind of stuff just amazes me. I can't wait to check out this doc.
Synopsis:
n Make Believe, director J. Clay Tweel follows six adolescent outsiders who all share an extraordinary passion: the art of magic. Armed with great skill and a dazzling array of illusions, these teenagers embark from the varied hometowns of Malibu, California; Chicago, Illinois; Capetown, South Africa; Littleton, Colorado; and Kitayama,...

A trailer for Make Believe, the film which won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, has been released. The film follows six teens as they make their way to Las Vegas to attend the World Magic Seminar and compete for the title of Teen World Champion. This of course is the very same seminar that launched some of the biggest names in magic into the spotlight including Chris Angel. Director J. Clay Tweel follows the adolescent outsiders who all share an extraordinary passion for the art of magic. Armed with great skill and a dazzling array of illusions, these teenagers embark from the varied hometowns, each with the hope to be named Teen World Champion by master magician Lance Burton.

[1] Sure, Harry Potter [2] can drive away Dementors or summon his broomstick with a wave of a wand -- but he only exists in fantasies. The kids in Make Believe are the real deal. The film, which won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year, follows six teenagers as they journey to Las Vegas in order to attend the World Magic Seminar and compete for the title of Teen World Champion. Okay, so they're teen magicians, not teen wizards, but their tricks are all the more impressive for being the result of hard-earned finesse and not visual effects magic. Watch the trailer after the jump. [via Film School Rejects [3]] The kids represent a very diverse array of personalities and backgrounds, hailing from places as diverse as Malibu, Capetown, and Kitayama, Japan. Notable illusionist Lance Burton also appears, as does actor and real-life magician Neil Patrick Harris. Make Believe has drawn comparisons to Spellbound for obvious reasons,...

Audiences have flocked to see Lance Burton in droves as he's perfrom some pretty cool illusions on stage and soon they will be able to see him on screen in theaters. He recently ended his contract early and has been hard at work filming an indie magic film.
Here is some more details about the film from Robin Leach’s Vegas Deluxe:
Lance told me that his entertainment partner, juggler Michael Goudeau, and he are now one-third of the way through shooting their indie magic film. “We have a 100-page script, and we’ve completed about 30 pages so far,” Lance said. “We’re really pleased with the way it’s coming along, and I’m having great fun taking on an acting role.
“Yes, it has lots of magic, but filmmaking has become a very interesting part of my life, having retired from the live magic performances. I still have...

[1] Are magicians going to become the next big Hollywood obsession? Yesterday we reported [2] that writer Michael Chabon would be developing an HBO show about magicians, and now we have news that famous illusionist Lance Burton is in the middle of shooting an indie film about magic. Read more after the jump. Burton began performing professionally in 1980 at the age of twenty, and has since become a huge star in the magic world. Last fall, he ended a sixteen-year run at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, where he was such a big deal that the casino built a theatre specially for his show. The details of his sudden departure from the venue aren't clear -- he ended a six-year contract after just one year -- but since then, he's been keeping busy working on a new film project. Vegas Deluxe [3]'s Robin Leach (via Bleeding Cool [4]) writes: Lance told me that his entertainment partner,...

I have to confess my age in writing this particular review, because Johnny Carson was off the air by the time I was watching late night television (or rather, watching and appreciating it). For my generation, the names headlining the late night shows were and, with a little bit of controversy, remain Jay Leno and David Letterman. In my case, I had to familiarize myself with Carson through YouTube clips years after he’d retired. Tonight, the most complete compilation of episode’s from Carson’s 30-year-long career as host, starts 4 years into his career (1965) and spans up to 1990 (4 years short of his final bow) in a 15-disc set featuring some great moments and some of the best guest appearances (with a particular focus on comedians for this set, it would seem). It’s doubtful we’ll ever see a full set, just because the undertaking of committing that much...

The JabbaWockeez make their triumphant return to the Las Vegas Strip at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, and Zap2it was given an all-access, behind-the-masks pass to see the show and speak to the dancers.
The original "America's Best Dance Crew" winners fill the void left by illusionist Lance Burton with their own brand of stage magic. They've described their show as "the audio-visual story of inspiration brought to life through the harmonization of sound and movement."
Besides the massive, bright signage all over the Monte Carlo, it's easy to see that this is Wockeez Land from the wealth of merchandise to be had. T-shirts, caps and of course those somewhat unsettling, expressionless white masks are available to all. While browsing through the accessories, we hear a young fan wearing a mask say that he's going to be one of the Wockeez when he grows up.

I had my last test of the semester today and I'm exhausted. I can't decide if I want to take a nap and then go out tonight and celebrate or take a nap and then wake up, eat something, and fall right back asleep until sometime tomorrow afternoon. The nap, though, is definite. It'll happen right after I finish eating this lunch of an avocado I put on top of some salad because it's still not quite acceptable to cut an avocado in half, sprinkle on salt and pepper and eat it with a spoon. That kind of behavior is for weekends. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00 p.m.: "Bones" on Fox.
"Community" on NBC.
"Flash Forward" on ABC.
"The Vampire Diaries" on The CW.
8:30 p.m.: "Parks and Recreation" on NBC.
9:00 p.m.: "CSI" on CBS.
"Fringe" on Fox.
"Grey's Anatomy" on ABC.

Starz channel owns Friday night for comedy. Their bright spot original comedy series are "Head Case" and "Party Down." Starz has sent over some clips for tonight's episodes. "Case" stars improv comedian Alexandra Wentworth as Dr. Elizabeth Goode, a narcissistic $450-an-hour therapist whose own issues trump her famous clients she treats in Beverly Hills. Unscripted and improvised episodes feature Goode (and her office-mate Dr. Myron Finklstein, played by Steve Landesberg) violating every ethical Doctor-patient rule. Goode entertains her "patients" Macy Gray, Jerry Seinfeld, Janeane Garofalo, James Denton, Paulina Porizkova, Kevin Nealon, designer Isaac Mizrahi and magician Lance Burton this season. On this week's "Head Case," Kevin Nealon realizes he might need to see a real doctor, not a...
