- In 2011, he was interviewed for Sir Jimmy Savile: As It Happened (2011), a BBC tribute to the late presenter. In 2012, following mounting evidence that Savile was a prolific sexual abuser during his lifetime, Campbell donated his £250 fee to the National Association for People Abused in Childhood.
- He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2015 Queen's BIrthday Honours List for his services to Children. He is a Patron of the British Association for Adoption and Fostering in London, England.
- His family name was Lackey, but he was adopted at nine days old by the Campbells.
