- Father with Sybil Thorndike of actors Ann Casson, Christopher Casson, John Casson, and Mary Casson.
- Grandfather of Glynis Casson and of theater scholar Diana Devlin whose parents are Mary Casson and William Devlin.
- He was created a Knight Bachelor in the 1945 King's Birthday Honours List for his services to drama.
- During the First World War, he joined the Royal Army Service Corps. He later joined the Royal Engineers finally where he reached the rank of major. He was sent home in 1917 after being wounded, and was awarded the MC (Military Cross) for his services during World War I. He ended the war as secretary of the Chemical Warfare Committee.
- From 1941 to 1945, he was President of the British Actors' Equity Association.
- He was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium in Golders Green, London, England.
- A memorial service was held for him at Westminster Abbey, London on 6 June 1969.
