It wasn’t a whimper but it didn’t exactly qualify as a bang, either.
The Big Bang Theory, which concluded its historic 12-year run in May, was skipped over in the comedy and acting categories in the just-announced nominations for the 71st Emmy Awards but the CBS sit-com’s finale episode did earn three nods, including one for director Mark Cendrowski.
Cendrowski has been the definition of a stalwart presence for the hit series since the start and directed an amazing 244 of its 280 episodes. His first Emmy nomination came last year, so he closes out the career-shaping run with back-to-back nods from his peerage.
“I’m really, really proud of that episode,” Cendrowski told Deadline. “For me it was the perfect way to end the series. It’s not just another half hour of television, it was really something special.”

If at first you don’t succeed, try 254 more times. That’s the lesson that “The Big Bang Theory” learned at the 2018 Emmys when it received its first-ever nomination for Best Comedy Directing for episode #255, titled “The Bow Tie Asymmetry.” Directed by Mark Cendrowski, this episode served as the Season 11 finale and featured the long-awaited marriage between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik).
Cendrowski is a two-time DGA nominee (2013-14) and the current directors’ branch member on the Emmys’ Board of Governors. Despite directing a whopping 223 episodes of “The Big Bang Theory,” he’d never received an Emmy bid until now, thanks to a brand new rule change.

It was a night of firsts and sweeps.
Find out who won their first Emmys and what shows swept the awards, because we have every single winner from all three Emmy ceremonies below!
Jimmy Kimmel did an awesome job hosting, and even managed to point out all of the annoying gluten free stars in the audience after passing out Pb&J sandwiches his mom made. And he hoped nobody was allergic to nuts!
Congrats to all the winners. How many surprised you by the way things turned out? FX proved that there may be too much television to choose from, but what they're putting out there is of the great variety.
HBO offered up repeats with Game of Thrones and Veep, Keeping The Americans from a Best Drama win, but Rami Malek got the best actor win, even if we were also cheering heartily for Matthew Rhys. And our girl...

Chicago – If “The Big Bang Theory” is truly among the better sitcoms in prime-time, that’s saying a great deal about the current state of television comedy. I was genuinely interested in checking out this show after hearing the rapturous response from viewers and critics, and especially after seeing co-star Jim Parsons snag the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series away from Alec Baldwin.
So I was rather shocked when I sat down to view the fourth season premiere of “The Big Bang Theory,” and found myself sitting in appalled silence for the entirety of the show’s 21 minutes. It reminded me of the phony sitcom on “Extras,” where the struggling actor played by Ricky Gervais is forced to stay imprisoned in an endless nightmare of shrill stereotypes, obnoxious catchphrases and canned laughter. In all fairness, “Theory” is reportedly shot in front of a live studio audience,...
