While procedurals like Blue Bloods or S.W.A.T. have been one of the top highlights of the week on CBS for years, and NBC has had all sorts of projects within the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises, the procedural drama 9-1-1 was one of the most-watched shows on Fox from 2018 to 2023.
The show then moved to ABC (which is also owned by Disney) starting in March 2024, and for nearly two months now, 9-1-1 has been posting very impressive ratings in its new home, which secured the show's renewal for a new eighth season in early April.
The fact that the show is generating so much traction is not just because its creators are television colossi Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. It's a fascinating drama that has viewers rooting for Los Angeles first responders as they navigate their personal and professional lives no less than the other aforementioned shows.

A Stunning Union Amidst Unforeseen Perils On an unforgettable Thursday’s episode of 9-1-1, Madison Buckley (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Howard ‘Chimney’ Han (Kenneth Choi) finally tied the knot in an emotional ceremony, marked not by the joy of the occasion, but by the intense drama unfolding. In what was described as a credit to the writers and directors, the couple found themselves saying their vows in an unconventional setting—a hospital room—demonstrating their unbreakable bond through life’s trials. Chimney’s disappearance earlier in the day laid a thrilling yet terrifying context for this unconventional nuptial. Originally framed as a lighthearted play reminiscent

Note: This story contains spoilers from “9-1-1” Season 7, Episode 6.
There was more than one happy couple celebrating a milestone at the end of the May 2 episode of “9-1-1”: After going missing on his wedding day to Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Chimney (Kenneth Choi) was found alive and he and Maddie’s wedding finally happened in his hospital room, as he recovered from viral encephalitis. But Buck (Oliver Stark) was also beaming as new boyfriend Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) joined the joyful celebration.
The reactions of the characters — who didn’t know Buck was bi, let alone dating a fellow firefighter — ranged from confusion from Buck and Maddie’s parents, to Hen (Aisha Hinds) saying, “It’s about damn time.”
Hewitt told TheWrap that the “Wait, what?” response from Dee Wallace, who plays Buck and Maddie’s mother, was genuine, as she missed the episodes where Buck and Tommy admitted their attraction to each other.

Now that Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) have survived their wedding—it was a close call for the groom!—are they getting a break on 9-1-1? It may be surprising, but yes! After their latest trauma, “they’re going to have some wedded bliss, I think, for the rest of the season,” Choi tells TV Insider. “They’ve had enough that was traumatic for this season. We’ll wait until Season 8 until they throw some more curveballs.” Hewitt notes that finales usually wrap up unfinished business for characters, but “we don’t have anything. For the first time, we’re just peaceful and things are good. I was like, ‘What are we going to do in the finale? We have nothing.’ And I think that that’s kind of great. For the first time, we’re just sort of solid and the emergencies are going to happen around us,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6 “There Goes the Groom.”] Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) first date was postponed when her abusive ex-husband, Doug (Brian Hallisay), stabbed him and kidnapped her. There was no way that 9-1-1 was going to have them get married without something going wrong. But that resulted in an episode filled with what makes the show so good seven seasons in: the right mix of heart and trauma. But in this case, the groom simply goes missing because he can’t remember he’s supposed to be at his own wedding, thinking it’s 20 years ago because of viral encephalitis after an encounter with a patient on a call. It’s all hands on deck to try to find him, while he’s wandering around Los Angeles, hallucinating Doug taunting him and then Kevin (James Chen) guiding him home—to the Lees (Freda Foh Shen and ...

Silly me for thinking this would be a lighthearted affair.
After a little midseason hiatus, 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6 brought us back to Maddie and Chimney's big day, which saw Maddie looking majestic and ready to walk down the aisle while Chimney was nowhere to be found.
What followed was the search for Chimney, which veered left in a way I didn't see coming.
I'll be honest here. Based on the promotions and the trailer's comedic aspects, I went into this hour thinking it would be enjoyable.
The trailer felt like we were in for an homage to The Hangover, and based on them already doing a play on The Poseidon Adventure to begin 9-1-1 Season 7, it wasn't unbelievable to think they could tap into another popular film for another storyline.
But nothing about this hour was funny, sans for the beginning, which fizzled out almost as quickly as it began.

The Madney wedding day was far from the day Chimney and Maddie envisioned when they decided to say, "I do."
After the big tease at the end of 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 5, Buck and Eddie showed up to the Madney nuptials, looking like they'd had one wild night, and Chimney was nowhere to be found.
9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 6 picked up from that crazy reveal, and the hour subsequently filled in the missing pieces from that night before and answered the question so many had on their minds: where's Chimney?
Kenneth Choi has been with the series from the beginning, lending tremendous warmth to the ever-charismatic firefighter/paramedic, and Chimney has come a long way from the man we met in 9-1-1 Season 1, who was in a failing relationship and would almost lose his life.
Since then, he's met the love of his life, had a child, gotten engaged, and...

As the upcoming Ryan Gosling–Emily Blunt crowd-pleaser “The Fall Guy” shows, doing stuntwork in Hollywood can be risky business. That is why you are supposed to leave it to the professionals.
But Chris Pratt decided to get in the mix a little bit during the production of his next film, “Mercy,” and the result didn’t go so well.
As he shared on Instagram, the “Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor, after saluting his stunt team, admitted he “sometimes tr[ies] to get in there and do some of my own stuff. Today, daddy caught a metal post to the ankle. Should be interesting moving forward.” He included the “thinky guy” emoji and two photos—one of a bandaged foot, the other looking a bit scratched and puffy. It’s unclear to what degree this injury will delay shooting.

A couple of months ago, 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear reached out to actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. — who had guest-starred in three flashback episodes of the second season — about reprising his role as firefighter Tommy Kinard in the seventh season of the hit Fox-turned-abc first-responder drama.
Ferrigno Jr., who says he had nothing but fond memories of working with the writer and producer years ago, was instantly intrigued to learn that Minear was in the early stages of writing a multi-episode arc that would allow viewers to check back in with Tommy in the present. ‘9-1-1’ Sails To 2-Year Audience High In Delayed Viewing With Conclusion Of ‘Poseidon Adventure’ Arc
Exclusive: Audiences seem to have enjoyed 9-1-1 paying homage to The Poseidon Adventure.
Bobby and Athena’s three-episode cruise ship disaster came to a dramatic conclusion during the March 28 episode which, after seven days of multi-platform viewing, became the series’ most-watched telecast in more than 2 years.
According to Disney, the episode drew 10.72M viewers in seven days of viewing across ABC, Hulu and digital platforms. That’s nearly double the audience of 5.5M that tuned in live + same-day.

9-1-1 is adding a face from Bobby’s (Peter Krause) past for the second half of Season 7.
According to Deadline, Malcolm-Jamal Warner has landed a four-episode arc as Amir.
Amir is a nurse in a hospital’s burn unit with a surprising connection to Bobby.
Details about how the pair come into contact have not been disclosed, but given that we know Amir’s profession, there’s a good chance it will result from a character winding up in that unit.
If Amir’s tie is to Bobby, we expect it to be someone from the 118.
Let’s hope it isn’t Buck (Oliver Stark). He needs a break after his brush with death after being struck by lightning.
Could Malcolm Jamal-Warner become a new series regular?
It’s unclear whether the four episodes could become something more because 9-1-1 has already earned a Season 8 renewal at ABC.

Considering Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) relationship has included a stabbing and kidnapping by her abusive ex-husband (Brian Hallisay), there’s no way their wedding can happen with something going wrong in 9-1-1 Season 7. “Maddie and Chimney had already stated that they wanted to do something simple at home. It just doesn’t work out that way,” showrunner Tim Minear tells TV Insider with a laugh. “I’m very excited about the Maddie-Chimney wedding episode because for me, it’s kind of a fractal of both of their journeys, but particularly Chimney’s journey from when he was trying to get rich quick with all his little schemes until he found his purpose in life and finally finding her.” He continues, “If you think about the stories that we’ve done with Chimney and Maddie over the seasons, there are always outside forces that...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4 “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered.”] If you asked us before 9-1-1 Season 7 began if the ABC first responder drama would take the relationship between Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman), which remains strictly platonic, and actually go where some fans have wanted to see it go for some time now, the answer would have seemed simple. But now the question has to be asked. Buck spends the 100th episode “bothered and bewildered,” to borrow its title, upon realizing Eddie’s spending all this free time with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former 118er they just worked with to rescue Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett). He seems hurt when Eddie talks about meeting someone and just clicking. He tries to get Eddie’s attention at work, then drags Chimney (Kenneth Choi) along to a weekly basketball game upon learning his best friend’s going with Tommy. And ...

Starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson, sci-fi thriller Mercy is taking shape, with Kali Reis and Rafi Gavron among the actors joining its cast.
For the past few months, Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has quietly assembled what could end up being one of the starriest sci-fi films of 2025. In January, Amazon MGM bought up the global theatrical rights for Mercy – which is unsurprising, given the package: it has Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson attached as its stars, and Hollywood veteran Charles Roven as its producer.
In the weeks since, more and more names have been added, including Annabelle Wallis (who starred in the gleefully twisted Malignant) and Kali Reis, who made a strong impression in the hit series True Detective: Night County. Most recently, Deadline reports that four more actors have been added to the roster: Rafi Garon (A Star Is Born), Chris Sullivan (This Is Us), Kenneth Choi (9-...

The 118 is heading to The Bachelor mansion in 9-1-1 Season 7, and ABC has released a first look at the surprising crossover—which takes place during the first responder’s 100th episode on April 4. 9-1-1 star Aisha Hinds (who plays Hen) told TV Insider, “We actually have some folks that were actually on The Bachelor. I think their fans and our fans will be very excited to see us mashing up together.” And now, the new promo, which aired during The Bachelor finale, reveals that among the guest stars are the latest Bachelor, Joey Graziadei, and host Jesse Palmer. As the promo shows, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Josh (Bryan Safi) are excited about the 118 heading to the mansion, and once there, the women certainly notice Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman). And it’s Chimney (Kenneth Choi) who does a double take when Joey leans down to check on the victim.
