Songwriter ("Sunbonnet Sue", "School Days", "Waltz Me Around Again
Willie"), and author, educated at Girard College. He was a
department-store salesman before becoming a songwriter. Joining ASCAP
in 1927, his chief musical collaborator was Gus Edwards. His other
popular-song compositions include "Yip-I-Addy-I-Ay", "The Little Red
School House", "I Can't Tell Why I Love You But I Do", "Goodbye Little
Girl, Goodbye", "I Just Can't Make My Eyes Behave", "Goodbye Dolly
Gray", "I'll Be With You When the Roses Bloom Again", "Way Down Yonder
in the Cornfield", "In Zanzibar", "If a Girl Like You Loved a Boy Like
Me", and "Laddie Boy".
