Yo La Tengo are currently on tour (grab tickets here) in support of their latest album, This Stupid World, and during their latest stop in Nashville, band members Ira Kaplan and James McNew performed in drag in apparent protest of a recently passed Tennessee law banning drag shows in public.
Kaplan and McNew returned to the stage after a brief intermission dressed in drag for their second set on Monday, March 13th. Kaplan wore a sleeveless red dress and donned a long black wig, while McNew added a shawl and a sun hat to his ensemble. Drummer Georgia Hubley didn’t make an outfit change.
According to The Tennessean, the band didn’t explicitly acknowledge the new law, which goes into effect on April 1st. The legislation bans drag shows and other “adult cabaret” performances on public properties and other places where they could be watched by minors (It’s...

In response to Tennessee’s restrictive new law around drag performances, Yo La Tengo staged a protest at their recent Nashville show with part of the band playing a portion of the gig in drag. The beloved Hoboken, New Jersey, indie-rock band played the first of two nights at Nashville’s Basement East on Monday.
As reported by the Tennessean, the band performed a first set and then took a brief intermission. For the second set, singer-guitarist Ira Kaplan and bassist-keyboard player James McNew returned in women’s clothes — singer-drummer...

In 2016, Paul Feig reimagined the beloved "Ghostbusters" franchise for a new generation and made the daring decision to cast Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones as our proton-pack-wearing heroes. The response from "fans" was scarier than any ghost worth bustin'. People review bombed the film before it ever debuted and the official "Ghostbusters" Ultimate Gift Set omitted the film from its collection until I complained so loudly about it, Feig noticed and threw in his two cents, and then magically a digital copy was announced to be included.
The unbridled vitriol spewed from toxic fanboys regarding 2016's "Ghostbusters" felt unprecedented, with many viewing it as a look into the future of what happens when "boy franchises" dare to shift focus and let girls take center stage. Except, "Ghostbusters" wasn't the first time this had happened. More than two decades prior, "The Karate Kid" franchise decided to give Mr.

The streaming premiere of James Gunn's "Peacemaker" is almost upon us, and as the series approaches its HBO Max debut, details are trickling in about a major casting change that occurred behind-the-scenes and resulted in significant reshoots. Last September, Sony Pictures TV renewed their contract with the creators of Cobra Kai – Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. The deal with the trio’s production imprint, Counterbalance Entertainment, runs for four years and even includes the possibility of expanding the Cobra Kai/Karate Kid universe with fresh spinoffs.
In light of that fresh ink and in advance of the long-awaited Cobra Kai season 4, Den of Geek chatted with Heald and Hurwitz about the future of the franchise, and what Karate Kid films will continue to be in the Cobra Kai canon.
“We call it the Miyagi-verse,” Heald says of the Karate Kid world. “It’s a ginormous universe. But it all began with one movie.”
Beyond the original four films, other Karate Kid properties include the 2010 redux, starring Jackie Chan (Mr. Han) and Jaden Smith (Dre Parker) and an overlooked Saturday morning cartoon series that ran for...

Are you ready for the season finale of Ultra City Smiths?
The thrilling conclusion airs Thursday on AMC+, and it's going to be fun!
"There’s a darkness here in Ultra City. Yeah, something heavy’s coming down. Mills has to figure it out and stop it. And now he’s all alone," reads the official logline for the finale.
AMC+ shared an exclusive look at the episode, and the clip shows Donella on a mission to pass the torch for a Mayoral candidate.
The problem is that she can't find anyone who will be allowed to do the job.
The clip is fun and shows off the signature humor we've come to expect from this addictive series.
From AMC Studios and created by Conrad, Ultra City Smiths hinges on an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of fictional metropolis Ultra City’s most famous magnate (Kurtwood Smith).

Peacemaker is getting a new Vigilante.
Freddie Stroma, who starred as Prince Friedrich in Netflix’s Bridgerton, has replaced Chris Conrad in HBO Max’s spinoff of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie starring John Cena.
Stroma, who also stars in Netflix’s The Crew, will play Vigilante, otherwise known as Adrian Chase, a hand-to-hand combatant, a brilliant marksman and a master of the lariat. He was a New York City Da who sought justice in his own way as his alter ego after his wife and kids were killed by mobsters. Vigilante also has the ability to heal quickly and regenerate his body from injuries as serious as stabbings or gunshot wounds.
Conrad had originally been cast to play the character but is leaving amicably due to creative differences.
Peacemaker scored a straight-to-series eight episode order last year with The Suicide Squad director writing all episodes and directing a number of them.

James Gunn and Warner Bros. debuted the first, R-rated trailer for “The Suicide Squad” on Friday, and it’s clear the foul-mouthed supervillain spectacular doesn’t skimp on all manner of bad behavior.
The main story is still out of reach, but the trailer opens with a mission to rescue Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn that proves unnecessary, as Harley already got herself out of whatever scrape she found herself in.
One of the biggest revelations, however, is that Sylvester Stallone is providing the voice for King Shark, who is, basically, a man with a shark head.
Oh, and then there’s the giant, colorful starfish kaiju who begins to rampage at the end of the trailer.

Exclusive: Nhut Le has been cast to recur on HBO Max’s Peacemaker as Judomaster.
In DC lore, the character has been seen in three different previous iterations. The first Judomaster premiered in Special War Series #4 back in November 1965, created by Joe Gill and Frank McLaughlin. Originally known as Hadley “Rip” Jagger, he was a sergeant in the World War II U.S. Army. The Charlton Comics character was ultimately sold to DC. A different Judomaster was created by Paul Kupperberg and artist Michael Collins for Justice League Quarterly #14 (1994), in which the new Judomaster assists Blue Bettle, Captain Atom and Nightshade in joining Peter Cannon’s battle against Andreas Havoc. There was also a female Judomaster, Sonia Sato, who was part of the Birds of Prey (#100 in 2007).

Le is a Groundlings and Ucb alum. He’s repped by Ross Grossman at Affinity Artists Agency and Bohemia Group.

If the last few decades of entertainment history has taught us two things, it’s that you shouldn’t mess with a character played by Ben Kingsley and you really shouldn’t mess with a character played by Jacki Weaver. The core of “Perpetual Grace, Ltd” is watching one would-be grifter discover these empirical truths for himself.
Jimmi Simpson plays James, a wandering con man who stumbles on a pair of potential prey he couldn’t have accounted for: Ma (Weaver) and Pa (Kingsley). As the husband and wife leaders of a church, the two have been perpetuating an extensive scheme of their own by slowly pilfering money from their parishioners for years.

Make no mistake about it: “Patriot” is the story of an abusive relationship. With its bleak haze and black vignettes,Season 2 makes the physical and psychological damage inflicted on John Taynor (Michael Dornan) easier to recognize. Seeing the show for what it is doesn’t make it easier to process; creator, writer, and director Steve Conrad’s yarn about loyalty is easygoing and unrelenting, charming in its eccentricities, and stark in its depiction of espionage. There are no fancy gadgets or sexy double agents in the second season of Amazon’s drama; just a father, a son, and their loyalty to an idea bigger than themselves.
Season 2 is shorter (both in episode count and length), darker, and lacking in much of the whimsy that kept Season 1 afloat, but it’s an intriguing narrative with unique payoffs. For an existential drama about America’s decaying moral compass, “Patriot” is pretty funny.
