- Roger Cowland was born in London in 1943. He joined the Motion Picture Industry in 1963 at George Humphries Film Laboratory, London, UK. He relocated to Film House, Canada in 1967 then to Australia in 1968, where he worked for Atlab, first in their negative department before moving into their optical effects department. In 1974 he moved to Colorfilm as their feature film optical effects specialist. When Colorfilm closed in 1990 he went back to Atlab as optical effects supervisor. In 1995 he moved to DFilm, a newly formed digital effects facility, as their optical/visual effects manager. During his 35 year career he handled the optical effects for 265 Australian Feature Films, as well as many commercials, documentaries and short fiction films.
